:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

Have the Star Ocean games ever been available on PSN? Would like 1 and 2 on my Vita.
None of the Squeenix PSP stuff made before Dissidia (I think) are available digitally, Squeenix was very stubborn about offering digital.

Count me in on the Rock Band 4 excitement! I wasted days on Rock Band during high school / early years of college. Kinda sad that I won't be able to import my DLC unless I buy a One but have no desire to go out and buy it for one game. I'll start anew and get my favorite DLC from the past and all the new stuff but still is bittersweet has I had over $700 in DLC for RB (nice not having bills and being able to spend pay checks on games). Now if they would announce a new Left 4 Dead for the One my wife would force me to get one....

Just so everyone knows, the past DLC will be compatible once they dump the new versions on the store. It won't all be available immediately.

I'm more concerned with instrument compatibility. They say Rock Band stuff will work, but Rock Band guitars fucking suck. I've always preferred GH controllers, and if those don't work (probably won't, since they were just outer shells with 360 controllers inside) I'm SOL unless Mad Catz or somebody makes alternative controllers.

... Or if Activision announces a new GH, as has been rumored as well.

Rock Band 4 was just announced to come out this year! Heck yes!
Is there even still a market for these games? Sure we missed them, but the instruments take up a lot of apartment and retail space. Most of the good songs have already been licensed throughout the various Rock Band and Guitar Hero titles. And the dissolution of Kinect must've hurt Harmonix's coffers when they were working on Fantasia at the time.

So basically:

-Rainbow Moon - 270,000 Rainbow Coins

-Rainbow Moon - Amulet Set Triple

-Rainbow Moon - Rainbow Pearls Bundle Large (since this apparently gives everybody the 50,000 pearls for the price of three individually, just without the nice items)

Anything else? That's about $6.00 total, which isn't bad.

And no, I don't mind paying a little to remove the grinding. The faster that I can work through my backlog, the better.
I was going to say I didn't pay for any DLC and platted it... but I dropped 100 some hours on it :) So, your strategy is sound

If Rock Band 4 was coming out for the 360 I would buy it. But I switched to Playstation this generation. Buying a new round of peripherals and my past dlc not being able to carry over because I switched platforms... I'll probably pass.

Harmonix didn't 100% rule out past dlc working on a different next gen platform, but I don't see that happening at all. For one company it lessens the incentive to stick with them in the new generation. For the other company it means they never got a cut on hundreds of dlc you might have bought. It's not a plus for either console maker. Not to mention there would have to be communication between PSN and Live accounts to verify the purchases.

I still play the Rock Band/Guitar Hero games to this day (Blitz on Xbox as well) so I'm thrilled by this news. My strum bar is having a louder, clicking sound than usual so I have no problem getting a new controller.

With this, Arkham Knight, and MGS 5 coming out this year, I now have a reason to get a PS4.

Ok, Harmonix, let's see some Pink Floyd and/or Led Zeppelin in this game.

Please.

No way the instruments will work unless Harmonix has someone making one of those adapters that are supposed to trick the system or they've managed to get both Sony and MS to go back on their stances on last gen USB stuff.

More than likely a huge part of the reason we're actually getting another Rock Band and GH game are because they know that everyone that's been bugging them to make one has to buy a hardware bundle. Assuming they're able to mostly recycle the hardware stuff with updated compatibility and a few tweaks that would probably make the hardware hugely profitable.

They've said in numerous places that they're working with MS and Sony on how to make it happen. The Skullgirls guys have even made a custom driver to let PS3 fight sticks work, so there's no reason that a more official means of getting the various guitar controllers out there to work cannot happen.

Well we know it's possible and that both blocked it to keep us from being cheap bastards and making us buy new full priced stuff. If Sony and MS still feel the same way they did when they set it up that way then where's the upside for them in giving in to Harmonix on it? Probably will have to buy a $10 patch or something if they give in. Or more likely if it happens EA and Activsion will set it up so that they only get the first party stuff unblocked so you have to buy controllers from them to make up for the likely fee they'll have to pay.

I have a question that I couldn't find on google. I have money on an old account on my Playstation 4. If I purchase an item using that money, will I be able to access the purchased content (probably a game) on the newer account?

If it's a console like the PS3 (and I assume PS4) where you can put multiple accounts on one system and play content from any of the accounts on any of the accounts.

Why? Because it's a good thing to do for their customers that want to get the new game, much like the DLC being Cross Buy between generation, and they stand to gain from their cut of the DLC and game purchases on their digital storefronts. These are people that have purchased dozens, if not hundreds, of songs for their games, so why give them a big reason to ignore the new game? I don't know what EA has to do with anything here. Rock Band is a Harmonix/Mad Catz game.

Ah nice! Now i can still use my 2 fight sticks. Now i hope this can make my g25 wheel compatible too with ps4 ! Oh please !

I would say, in Rock Band's case, the biggest reason is that Harmonix is about to go under. If you watch that video they put out about RB4, they all seem to be absolutely terrified, and with good reason. They put all their eggs into the Kinect basket, and then, before Fantasia even came out, MS dropped the Kinect from new Xone consoles. Then they tried to do something new with A City Sleeps, and not much came of that either. I backed the Amplitude Kickstarter, for far too much money, and I think if they don't do well with that, not even RB4 can help them come back. You are probably right about Activision's thought process, though.

It's too bad, Harmonix is one of my absolute favorite developers (even now that John T Drake, Diet Coke Aficionado has departed) and it would really suck for them to dissolve.

Also, the second major reason they're doing this is that it's been long enough since the last game. I was actually just thinking recently about getting some GH games/guitars for PS3 (since I still have that connected to my TV and don't want to dig out the 360) because I got the itch for some plastic guitar games. It's like Chappelle's Show or Borat, it's so ubiquitous for a while that it becomes rote, but then, given time, you can enjoy it again.

(To clarify: I was talking about 360 instruments to Xone, as that was where I bought all my games: those connected exactly the same way as a controller, because, as I said, they were just regular controllers in a big shell, so there's almost no way they would work. PS3 controllers, from what I recall, were wired... At least, DJ Hero turntables were... If they were USB, it'd be much easier to make them work with a PS4 because they weren't operating on proprietary wireless connections -- see above, with the Skullgirls fightstick driver stuff.)

I'm fairly certain that the reason you won't see that is because of the bands not wanting it to happen. At least that is the case with Led Zeppelin. I doubt the fact that the genre practically dying out is going to convince them.

I'm 1 of those RB/GH nerds.  They got me interested enough to get real instruments (guitar & bass), Rocksmith, RS2014 & BandFuse.  I still have 8 plastic guitars, 4 drum kits, mics & the keyboard.  I have several hundred(!) dlc songs & all the game discs.  I do my own repairs and we all still play.  PS4 RB15 is a no-brainer for me.  I think the instrument compatibility is the easiest part since it's just a matter of writing the driver software for the dongles into the game.  Should be fun.

And more than just one Muse song (only band I've seen more than once in concert).
It's funny you mention Muse... I have a tiny MP3 player I use when running (and in the car from time to time) and all it has on it is every Muse album. Seriously, nothing but Muse. That is such a great band. And to think the only reason I even looked into the band was after hearing Uprising on a local hard rock station and thinking it was fantastic.

It would be cool to play something powerful like Supremacy, Uprising, or my favorites... Guiding Light & the supremely fantastic City of Delusion.

To anyone confused...

....

I know it's unlikely we'll get a flash sale this weekend... and I kind of hope we don't since I've done well this week only collecting my free PS+ stuff. But... it always hits me on friday to start wondering. I did take some of the money not spent on games and grabbed some camping stuff (a tent that maybe weighs two pounds, a two person pack raft, and some supplies). :D/

I'm not sure about Pink Floyd, but yes, Led Zeppelin is famously anti-digital, to the point that they're giving up ridiculous amounts of money and making Dread Zeppelin (cover band) extra rich as people buy the covers instead. I mean, plenty of people already liked Dread, but picking the one band that decides to resist digital had to be like hitting the lottery.

I believe the major reason this gen is that they're adding security checks into devices because usb ports are key entry points 'in' to systems nowadays. This has the side effect of making older devices not pass the security checks, so are unusable. At least, I remember reading something on that, but it's been awhile.

Sony move controls still work with the PS4, etc, because they don't need to be plugged in. Anyway, I'm not so sure that it's a 'cash grab' on Sony/MS's side, especially since they don't even make the fight sticks and driving wheels that make up a lot of the market.

If the old account has that PS4 set as its primary PS4 then you can play any content it has downloaded. You probably already did this if it's the first account you made on your PS4 but in case you want to make sure sign into the old account and go to settings and just poke around there and it's pretty easy to find.

Rock Band is published by EA. Not sure if it's their property but I would assume so.
Nope, that's wrong. Viacom owned Harmonix up to RB3, but upon splitting up with them, Harmonix got the rights to the series:

"Harmonix will continue to release downloadable content for "Rock Band 3" and "Dance Central," and they continue to hold the rights to both franchises, and are free to make sequels for either."

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/12/23/harmonix-viacom-split-rock-band/

They then proceeded to make a deal with Mad Catz to become the publisher:

"Gaming peripherals and accessories company Mad Catz Interactive has entered into an agreement with game studio Harmonix that will see the music game maker's 2010 title Rock Band 3 re-released this holiday season."

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/36481/Mad_Catz_ReReleasing_Harmonixs_Rock_Band_3_Later_This_Year.php

Rock Band 4 is co-published by Harmonix and Mad Catz.

Did Sony not learn last year that people will be huge babies if they don't get the $10 that was randomly given out to people? I remember this being a huge hassle already, and I doubt anyone is mature enough to understand the concept of random giveaways any better now than they were then.

Lol...coming into a thread and complaining about complainers

found it. I got the $10 code.

I added it to my wallet. Do wallet funds expire?

The email said 3-31-15, but that is for the codes itself, right?

EDIT: I've had about $5 sitting on my account for 2-3 years.

That doesn't mean the $10 won't expire though. Hopefully there will be SOMETHING on sale the next couple weeks I actually want to drop $10 on. Unlikely...

all vita owners should be getting Oreshika. lead your clan through the generations.
It's not for everyone but it is one of the most original RPGs I've played in years. You have to be a real dungeon crawler fan as you do that about 80% of the time. Great game though.

So there were 14 titles I didn't recognize from this week's sale. Looked at some footage on Youtube and narrowed it down to 4. Would anyone recommend the following:

Mousecraft

Rainbow Moon

Snowy: The Bear's Adventure

Velocity Ultra

I can't quite figure out if I'd like Velocity Ultra. Depending on what I see from it, it looks amazing or lame. I can't figure it out.

Rainbow Moon

Snowy: The Bear's Adventure

Velocity Ultra
Velocity Ultra and it's sequel are both amazing. They are carefully crafted speed run games... sort of a shmup without much shooting but almost platformer levels of navigation required. There are a variety of level styles, from pure 'turbo from start to finish' speed runs, to puzzle levels with lots of doors to open to shmup levels with lots of enemies to kill.

The devs put a lot of effort into crafting these levels - you can really feel the beauty of the design as you reach zen levels of perfection required to 3 star all of them.

The sequel refines gameplay and then adds 'on foot' segments, which should never of worked, yet somehow does.

----

Rainbow Moon has a jrpg aesthetic with a sort of srpg combat style (your units move around on a battlefield and their attacks are sort of disgaea style where you know what pattern/range they have on the grid. All random battles are skippable, which is nice. Lots of dlc but grinding isn't really required as long as you're not ocd and feel the need to level up your warrior's intelligence, etc, and aren't skipping every single random battle ever.

Solid game mechanics, overall, but really terribly written. it's got goofy sidemissions like 'go find my comic book please!' and stuff like that. but i ignore all that and just play the game, and it's generally solid and fun. i use it as a 'go to' game when i have some time and just do a dungeon here or there.

---

can't comment on the others.

Thanks for the recommendations on this. I'm a new PSTV owner who never owned a Vita so I have no idea what's decent or not but I picked this up today and I'm already enjoying the heck out of it.

It's sort of like an RPG with some rogue-lite game elements and even a dash of The Sims as far as face creation and breeding genetics goes.

It can get a bit grindy but not in a bad way. The combat is short, sweet and fun so I don't view it as a chore.

It's one of the more unique spins I've seen on an RPG in a while. Definitely glad I took a chance on it.
