:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

Reminder if anybody cares: Alien Ant Farm's song "Smooth Criminal" for Rock Band will be delisted on March 31. I'm considering the PS3 and PSP versions since I like the song.

Also, does anyone own Trash Panic for PS3? I'm considering that or Critter Crunch for PS3 with my 10% off code. It looks a lot like a physics based Tetris style game but I'm wondering how much longevity it has.

Sony loves screwing with me dont they?? I was eyeing the GoW Ascension Ultimate Bundle and after the 10% discount, the total is $10.80....and my wallet has $10.60... FACK!

Anyone have a small PS Plus code they are spare my way? it would mean a lot

What is a small PS+ code? You mean like a trial? You can get a free trial directly from the PSN store. I'm not sure a code would work anyway if you've already had a trial.

I'm considering picking up a God of War game. Any thoughts on the series? What makes it so good? Which is your favorite? Do you need to play them in order? What's up with Kratos' birthmark?
God of War games practically created their own genre, so playing one now won't have quite the same impact as playing the first when it came out because the formula has been redone so often. But you have a hack and slash game with lots of potential attacks and skill upgrades, massive enemies, QTE kills (before this was everywhere), and just a generally solid game.

It's probably worth playing in order.

This may be nitpicky, but I think calling them "so" good is giving them a little too much credit. They were good for their time, and can still be enjoyed now, but I don't think they are some king of amazingly classic series that must be experienced. I certainly don't need another one (personally), but great for the people who do.

The series as a whole succeeds in much the same way Mortal Kombat does: by being excessively violent. The gratuitous kills are sort of the primary gimmick you play them for, and you can expect to be disgusted for much of the time. This is probably part of why the series doesn't quite hold up anymore. Brutally murdering random people to solve a puzzle might have been edgy then but is frowned upon now.

Aside from that, the interpretation of the Greek gods was a part of the success at the time, I think. The gameplay is a standard character action brawler with interesting moves, and is much easier than the more nuanced games in the genre, so it's more widely approachable.

The first game was notable for being one of the first major games (that I remember) making boss sequences more exciting by introducing "quick time events". Groan all you want, at the time it was novel and made a fight feel cinematic by letting your character do things you can't just map to a controller. I think the idea was to reduce the amount of time the player is passively watching the game as opposed to actively participating. The gimmick has since been done to death by the industry in general and is largely deserving of scorn, but still exists in these games.

The first game is very obviously a first game and was pretty janky even back when I played it. The final boss sequence even bugged out on me horribly. But it's also the one with the most coherent (simple) story. You should probably play it if you care about the story and want to know about Kratos, but don't expect much from it.

I remember the second game as being a perfection of the formula they created with the first. It also fully embraced the idea of constantly one upping itself by making each fight bigger and better which culminated in some of the ridiculous things you see in 3. While 3 continued the trend of smoothing out the gameplay (2 still had some problems), it is largely worth playing simply for how ridiculous it is.

I only played one of the PSP games, and thought it was good for a PSP game, but wouldn't start there. I would also personally skip Ascension unless you want to play the multiplayer. I didn't hate it, but it felt like even the single player gameplay was affected by multiplayer balancing. I want to say the way dodging worked was different, as were perhaps the immunity frames you have during attacks. It made the game more annoying.

I don't know if it matters if you play these in order or not. The story in these games isn't really that good. It's passable in the first game, but can just as well be summed up to you in a couple of sentences. In short, Kratos is angry and kind of a dick and kills anything he can get his hands on. The more of these games you play, the less you will care why he is so angry. Any empathy you have goes out the window and eventually you feel like someone should be stopping you, instead of the other way around.

Sorry if that was too much. I think my favorite was probably 2, but if you only play one, I'm not sure if there is any reason not to play 3, as it is the most recent and most polished of the bunch. You may be a little confused, but I think it has a recap in the beginning. Can't remember for sure.

I figured that was the case... I know there are 1 month codes out there (I hope) well, I can give $3 XBL Credit for one, I guess

They are absolutely worth playing. Yes, go in order, start with 1 and stop with 3. Ascension is a let down. Part three is just so amazingly epic. The only problem with it is part 1 suffers from a lack of bosses (the last one is amazing though), but rest assured that is the first thing they fixed in part 2.

His red marks are because he is a Spartan warrior. His skin is pale white because they are the ashes of his wife and daughter he is cursed after killing - hence the name "Ghost of Sparta". Kind of a spoiler, but you learn that almost right away in the first game so not really. The why is the important part - also learned fairly early. You don't really play God of War for the storyline, but just be glad you don't have to wait between part 2 and 3 like those of us that played them when they came out - it has a pretty big cliffhanger.

Nope. You'd have learned the true nature of the red mark if you played Ghost of Sparta.

Each game is worth playing and the release order is the best path to playing them, as the story is written with that in mind. The first is the roughest of them all with ideas that aren't revisited again (special meters, long rope/wall fight sequences). The thing that truly makes the series special is the spectacle of the action and the story.

I did play Ghost of Sparta. It wasn't very memorable other than his brother being in it. Fun game, throw away story - beat it then never played it again. I thought the ending of Chains of Olympus was superior despite it not being as good of a game.

Yes, part 1 had some very rough spots, the climb out of you know where was terrible.

Part 3 was just simply amazing. If anyone wants a good example of why God of War is awesome, the opening sequence of part 3 is it.

If I were to use the coupon on Soul Sacrifice Delta or Oreshika Tainted Bloodlines, which should I get?

Don't waste your money with the God of War sale if you want to try a game out. If you wish to download, just get the DLC pack for Ascension. God of Wars I & II and  III on the PS3 are $10 Total at Gamestop.

I would skip Trash Panic. Unbelievably difficult. Critter Crunch is more fun. Trash Panic is just frustrating.

Demos and Betas
Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines — PS Vita Demo

If I were to use the coupon on Soul Sacrifice Delta or Oreshika Tainted Bloodlines, which should I get?

Personally, I'd highly recommend Oreshika, but assuming you like both genres you can't go wrong.

Oreshika -- turn based. You take your clan through many generations, mating them with gods and watching them get more and more powerful. There are a lot of interlocking systems, the game is beautiful, and deep. It's really cool. There's just something really compelling about handing down a heirloom sword from one generation to another, watching it (and your children) get more powerful and taking down bigger and bigger demons. While each character dies after a certain amount of time, there's no fixed time limits in the game... if you miss an event one year, just go the next year (possibly with the even more powerful next generation of your clan, rather than the ones you missed it with).

Soul Sacrifice Delta --- definitely more of an action/hunting game. I only played the vanilla version but supposedly Delta is a huge improvement. many absolutely love it. monster design is insanely good. hunting games aren't really my thing but i enjoyed my time with it before moving on to other things.

I decided to grab the GoW Saga (1+2+3+the 2 PSP/Vita games converted for PS3) for $18, and grabbed the DLC pack for Ascension. Ascension would be the only one i'm missing and I'll probably end up grabbing it eventually.

I've played Demo's and rented 1-2 of the GoW games but never purchased any, so now I'll pretty much have all but 1.

I never saw rise working out other than her not being stuck in hicksville so they could possibly run into each other.  Yukiko prior to her social link going backwards seemed like the most plausible love interest and I was really proud of her trying to go out on her own.  Naoto and chie I never saw anything hinting at interest in the mc and it just randomly happens in their s links.

Just a reminder that Sony Rewards points from 2014 expire on 3/31. I had about 330 expiring so I bought a $10 psn card, no more $5 psn cards though. I only had 534 points so I had to pay $4.66 for it.

You are amazing, thank you. Have 742 points

Edit: Wait....mine say "expiring on 6/30/2018 : 37" No date for the 742 tho

Paid $2.58 for $10

Persona 1 and 2 have nothing to do with 3 or 4, and the battle system is a more unforgiving experience. I'd say look at some gameplay footage from both before deciding to get them.

I've only played Persona 3 Portable on my PS TV, and it looked pretty great. If you've never played P3, I recommend starting there. I'd say get Persona 3 FES over P3 Portable, but if you really want to have full party control and don't mind the downgrade in visuals and lack of anime cutscenes, then go with Portable.

I don't have a PS2 or PS3 so you'd still recommend getting the PSP version? It sounds like I shouldn't bother with the first two if I like "very easy"?
Is swagbucks worth your time like how long does it take to earn a reward?
It used to be.

Amazon giftcards were 450 points for a $5 giftcard, now they are 500 points. Doesn't seem like a big change, but it takes a few more days to get 50 more swagbucks.

The best way to get points and get giftcards is searching, special offers, coupons and online shopping. Surveys are good too, but they can be a pita.

Another good way used to be to run their TV apps on your phone overnight for 50 swagbucks, but the last time I used the apps, there was a black box ad after every few videos so you have to babysit it and close the ads. They also lowered the mobile TV apps limit to 35sb possible per day.

Starting out is relatively easy to get points though, especially if you've never signed up for their offers. Signing up for free trials is an easy way to get giftcards, but just make sure to cancel them before the trial ends. Gamefly offers 750 swagbucks for first time accounts.

It may be 500 for a $5 amazon gift card, but the first $25 gift card you get each month is only 2200 (excluding paypal and gas cards). That means by saving up for a $25 card you actually save more money, and have more options, than you did with the 450 for only $5 amazon.

I earn $1.26 / day with the phone apps, sometimes they have an ad that has an annoying 'x' out, but if you don't want to babysit it you could just do the other apps when you notice that (currently only 1 app is doing it for me). The 3 fastest apps can be completed in about 3 hours (total, generally with very little babysitting if any), and that's worth $0.72 (total). The 3 slower ones can be completed in about 5 hours (total, generally with the same amount of babysitting) and add another $0.54 (total). My ex-boyfriend, who does not necessarily finish the apps each day, through doing stuff on their website manages to get up to $2 a day. I generally stop at $1.30 ish. Through bonuses you get for getting a certain amount of swagbucks each day and the swagbucks I earn by watching videos, I pull down at least $50 in a month. Depending on your job, you can run them at work. I am on disability, so I run them from home all day. My ex-boyfriend works in a library, and he runs them under the desk at work.

It used to be. Amazon giftcards were 450 points for a $5 giftcard, now they are 500 points. Doesn't seem like a big change, but it takes a few more days to get 50 more swagbucks.

You overlooked the biggest change: $25 Amazon gift cards are now 2,200 swagbucks. You save 300 swagbucks now (as opposed to 250 before).

You are amazing, thank you. Have 742 points

Edit: Wait....mine say "expiring on 6/30/2018 : 37" No date for the 742 tho

Paid $2.58 for $10
They only tell you the ones expiring soonest. You had years left. My points don't expire till 2019.

On one hand, that's awesome you're making $50 a month, especially if that helps out. On the other hand, I think I'd pay someone $20 a month not to have to do all that.

Just a reminder that Sony Rewards points from 2014 expire on 3/31. I had about 330 expiring so I bought a $10 psn card, no more $5 psn cards though. I only had 534 points so I had to pay $4.66 for it.
I've been trying to redeem mine for over a month and keep getting a unable to complete transaction error. I even called support and they couldn't figure it out.

Yea, back when I was in college, I probably would have jumped all over swagbucks. Now, I pay to not see ads.

Helps a ton with Christmas shopping. Between Swagbucks and Perk I get probably $100/mo or more. It also lets me buy video games. Otherwise I would not have $1k worth of PSN games etc. 90% of my video game budget comes from sites like these. Hoping to get a Wii U at some point this year from amazon gift cards.

Thanks for the reminder, had 750 points expiring. Used my 999 PSN points to get a $10 card for 1 cent.
Eldritch, you disappoint me, you money bags.

You should have registered a BluRay for 1 point and make it an even 1000 and get the card for free.
