:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

So, people keep referring to Demon Gaze as a dungeon crawler, but it's still a turn based JRPG, right? Guess when I think of dungeon crawlers, I think hack n slash or action RPG.
it still turn based it just first person so you only see the enemy's in front of you with charters portraits while you battle

I'm looking for a dungeon crawler and trying to actually reduce my backlog, so if you could only pick one of the following which would it be: Conception II, Class of Heroes 2 (done waiting for 2G) or Demon Gaze? Don't really care about story and prefer which has the deeper character customization.
i did not like class of heroes an enjoy demon gaze a lot, it has options for customization Thu i feel it may be bit stream lined. to help causal players it still well done an recommend it.

conception 2 is the worst of the 3 picks, it simple game overall. CoH 2 may be the most complex in options but i never got into the first heard the second was better but gave up on the first so cant say.
Suikoden II

It's a PSOne classic, but definately worth getting as fa as turn-based RPGS go.
Thanks! I added it to my cart. Do you recommend any others from what I listed?

These are the games on sale that I have played.

Demon's Souls - $5.
Melee combat is a little like an evolved form of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time. It's a behind the shoulder perspective an you lock onto enemies which allows you to circle strafe them. Also like Zelda, combat is in real time. One major tweak is the stamina gauge. Blocking enemy attacks, swinging weapons, etc. uses a little of the constantly refilling stamina gauge. Don't make good use of your stamina and your block will be broken when it runs out or when you finally have an opening to attack you won't be able to because you wasted it on attacks which missed. If you are scared of it's reputation for difficulty you can play the game on the unofficial lower difficulty level, magic user, magic is very OP in the original Souls game. In later games they limit the amount of times you can cast per checkpoint, but DeS uses an MP bar for casting and there is a purchaseable, consumable item which instantly refills the MP gauge.

Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X - $5
It's an enjoyable remake of Mega Man X for PSP that works on vita, not much else to say.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed - $5
A great remake of the original 2D Bionic Commando which unfortunately didn't put out the trophy patch until after I had beaten it. Having a save file from this game unlocks an alternate skin for the 3D sequel Bionic Commando that more resembles the hero from the first game.

Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner - $8
Whereas the first game featured a young boy piloting the mech (he shows up as a supporting character in the sequel) a Han Solo-ish rogue steps in to be the main character in the sequel and the game is better for it. The story is told through traditional hand-drawn animation which marries surprisingly well with the 3D gameplay, I'm surprised more games didn't follow suit. The Mech you pilot is of the quick and nimple variety. Everything is superior to the first game. It's longer, the gameplay is more refined (larger variety of weapon options), the story is better, the graphics are much prettier. They released a patch which fixed most of the performance issues but it still doesn't run quite as fast as the ps2 version which would often get to 60 FPS. The first game is OK, but I think you would probably be better off finding a video summary on youtube and skipping straight to the sequel, particularly since it is cheaper to buy the games individually anyway.

Playstation Europe just announced their PS+ games for May

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2015/04/29/playstation-plus-may-ether-one-hohokum-murasaki-baby/?adbid=593438690484989953&adbpl=tw&adbpr=36969785&emcid=social_20150429_44869266&short_code=2w9dx

Ether One
Hohokum
Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition
The Unfinished Swan
Race the Sun
Murasaki Baby
Hopefully we get Guacamelee and Unfinished Swan. Took a lot of self control to not buy those games back then expecting them to be plus.

Oh god that is an ATROCIOUS ps+ lineup. WTF sony. Most of those are indies that have already been free, right? Hasnt guacamelee been free before? Or white swan or murasaki baby?

Please let this not be the US lineup although they have consistently been the same for a while now

Ended up putting $25 in my wallet and picked up Suikoden II and Hatsune Miku Project Diva F so far. Really happy with Hatsune Miku too, wasn't expecting to enjoy the game so much and the music is super catchy.
I don't mean to rain on your parade but diva f 2nd has been $20-$25 physical at GameStop and amazon for a few weeks now.

Funny how Xbox and PS3 announced their freebies at the same time.

Already own Guac and Swan so Race The Sun is all I'm interested in next month.

Which title should I buy for my first foray into the Atelier series? Love my JRPGs, visual novels, and tactical RPGs as genres.
Short answer is Rorona+(ps3 and vita) or Ayesha+(vita). But Rorona+ and Eschatology have been $20 physical at gamestop if you can still find it in stock.

Well I can wait another month before cashing in a PS+  card. I have Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition on the X1 and I am not interested in Ether One. I own the Unfinished Swan and the other 2 for PS3 are not for me either.  Guess I am still working on my 360 backlog.

Couldn't resist buying Guccamelee the last time it was on sale, so it's only the Swan for me this time around. Not a bad PS4 lineup for anyone who doesn't have any of the titles.

Don't think the vita version ever got a physical copy for the first Diva F. And the ps3 copy is selling for $45... Parade looking pretty sunny for him.

that's a weak lineup, no getting around that.  I'm looking forward to Murasaki Baby, but that's about it.  They've already given away Guacamele for ps3/vita.  Enough with the indies already.

Have Guccamelee from GWG. And bought Unfinished Swan during an earlier sale.

Otherwise more so-so indie games. I don't mind PSN titles (rather have them than a 5 year old game like Mafia 2 in this month's GwG), but why not something at least worth playing?

For once I don't own any of the games for PS+ this month.

I am glad I resisted the urge to buy a few of these games when they were on sale this year too, like The Unfinished Swan,
Race the Sun and Hohokum.

I'm also glad I didn't buy Murasaki Baby on release.

I've been a PS+ subscriber for 4 years and never got Guacamelee free.

edit: Did a little looking. Appears they gave it to EU region for free at some point, not US.

If you're buying games from the sale, I have $20 and $50 psn cards for 10% off. Pm me. I'm on my computer all day and can send codes immediately.

It's been awhile back but it was free
It wasn't the Super Turbo edition of the game prior to this month. The vanilla version of the game was a PS+ game awhile back though.
You guys sure you are not referring to this?

I've been a PS+ subscriber for 4 years and never got Guacamelee free.

^Yeah, I have no recollection of owning Guacamelee and I have been plus for years. Only game I missed was Disgaea 3 Vita, which I couldn't buy because I didn't have a Vita registered to my account at that time.

I really wish I had bought Portal 2 when it was $5 last year.

Also, the PS PLUS IGC has leaked for North America

Just got a few things wrong with the cross platform, but no let downs because I did not except much.

I do want to try Gaucamelee since it looks pretty cool.

Ive never played a metal gear game before.... would the metal gear hd collection be a good intro into them?
Sure. MGS2 is the best place to start, in my opinion. I find the gameplay there to be the best of the series -- basically a much more solid version of MGS1's gameplay. The later games change up the gameplay quite a bit, and MGS3 is quite a bit more challenging, so that might not be the best choice for a beginner.

The exception would be if you're pretty sure you're going to like the series and stick with it. In that case, I'd start with MGS1 so you get a better grasp of the overall story. But MGS2 is otherwise an excellent introduction to the series.

when you say dungeon crawler, I think Wizardry, Class of Heroes, Dragon Quest mainly... could also be Diablo-esque.
I think of Wizardry too, or at least turn based in some way. Last thing I think of is Diablo.

I disagree. Demon Gaze is clearly the best one, but Conception 2 was way better than CoH1. CoH1 had no strategy. You either steamroll them, or get steamrolled. Conception II at least has a ton of balance and strategy.

Any thoughts on Sorcery Saga?
Said it already somewhere. Better than Izuna / Shiren imo.

DJMax is similar to Rock Band Unplugged but much more difficult. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're already familiar with the series. What you can do, however, is if any of your local Gamestops still sell PSP games, check if they have DJMax Fever. It's like $4 and PSP games are B2G1 until they're gone. (Rock Band is also .99)

Alternatively, hold out for the Vita installment to become affordable - not anytime in the near future - because that one is much easier to get into as it uses the touchscreen.
Rock Band Unplugged had an instrument switching system which the DJ Max games don't. I am a huge DJ Max fan but didn't dig RBU after playing it for a while. whitereflection is correct in stating that there is a better jump-in point with the series (if you have a PSP I'd argue that Clazziquai is the best one to start with but that's an import). Fever is usually cheap and is a mix of many of the songs in the series at the time of its US release. I won't go into drawn-out detail here but once you get used to the gameplay (there are multiple play difficulties and you can (and should) change the note speed depending on how you improve) move on to the other games in the series if you still have a PSP (I love Clazziquai and Black Square, but I also enjoy DJMP and DJMP2, have a soft spot for Hot Tunes, and enjoy the flawed but fun DJ Max Portable 3 in this sale). If DJMP3 is your only option then that is okay, too (especially at that price).

There was a demo of Fever on the PSN for PSPs but it was not indicative of the actual difficulty of the game (it was haaard for new players and almost turned me off completely).

More than other music games, I really feel the songs as I play the notes. The best note patterns alternate between playing the melody to the lyrics, to the bass, and other stuff. It's enthralling to play and notice parts of the song you didn't notice in different difficulties (which offer different patterns and use of 4, 5, 6 face buttons and/or the shoulder buttons).

Play with good headphones on; you will want to hear the notes as some can be delightfully subtle.

DJ Max Technika Tune plays differently and is fun, but I find the smaller Vita screen harder to play on than the arcade version and the iOS version. It's still worth picking up if you can find a good sale.

Sorry, that was more than I intended to write, but I've put in hundreds of hours and thousands of song plays (I average 1100-1200 song plays per PSP version). I love the series even though they each suffer from little flaws here and there. It's probably my most played game series ever (and I have absolutely no rhythm outside of these games).

I'm pretty sure that is was just a really good sale on Guacameele.  I bought it back in September, but I cant see what it cost then.

I'm a little underwhelmed by this sale. There is not much that jumps out at me. I think I'm only going to get Tales of Symphonia Chronicles.  Thinking about the Class of Heroes games, but I think about them every time and have yet to pull the trigger.

I found MGS2 way more difficult than MGS3. In MGS2, the enemies were actually smart and contacted each other. So if you kill people in an area, someone will contact them and say "why are you not you responding bravo team?" or whatever. Then they send a bunch of guys to the area. Highly annoying. Forces you to do more stealth. Also the game had a ton of cutscenes. I remember this one part where I had entered a room and it triggered a cutscene. Then I had to leave after the cutscene and as soon as I stepped out the door another one triggered.

To anyone who wants to play the series, but does not care about story that much then just start with 2 and work your way up.

If you want to be prepared for V, then you really only need to play 3, Peace Walker, and Ground Zeroes ( in that order ). It would be better to play them all, but those are the essential ones.

Interesting, I think our play styles are probably very different. The thing that made MGS3 much more difficult for me than MGS2 was how it was more difficult to stay aware of your enemies' positions. The replacement of the radar with more rudimentary tools contributed most to that, but the scenery and graininess of the graphics also made it more difficult for me to spot enemies.

Not a bad month for PS+ at all IMO.  I have The Unfinished Swan from that last sale where it was so cheap, but the others are all new for me though I do own the vanilla ps3/psv version of Guacamelee (probably from the indie flash sale in January when it was $3).

I'm considering purchasing Castlevania LOI, Suikoden II, Darkstalkers Resurrection (one of my favorite fighting series), Pier Solar, Crimson Gem Saga, and maybe a few others on the cheap like Dark Forces and Gurumin.  I think I'll grab a psn card today.   Just when I feel like I'm done buying games.  I just need to eventually get back to actually playing them.

Guacamelee (PS3/Vita) was on sale in January for $2.70 (when I bought it).
I think I bought it on a similar deal prior to that in 2013. I remember getting on the cheap around the same time I bought my Vita. Looking forward to getting the Super Turbo Edition, I loved the game as a huge fan of Metroidvania games and professional wrestling it was a perfect match for me.

How's Star Wars: Bounty Hunter? The only experience I have with Star Wars games is from playing Force Unleashed and Battlefront but this looks interesting to me.
