PSO multiplayer

So my roommate and I pulled out Phantasy star online ep 1& 2. We made it to cave 3 called it a night and quit. We load up the next day, and we can only goto Forest 1. We don't have the manual and aren't sure why we can't load up where we were. Do we have to make it to locations on single player? Or does the game just not save dungeon progress?

UPDATE: Must beat missions single player to jump to them in multiplayer. D@MN YOU PSO, D@MN YOUU!!!!

Yeah, play through the full game before you do the multiplayer. It doesn't take long.

Yeah, I think we're gonna make a character and see if getting past forest one lets others do the same, as to not have one character out level the other.

Only the host character matters when playing multiplayer. So even if player 2 can go to the ruins, when player 1 starts the game, you're stuck with their progress.

And you have to do it for every difficulty.
