Purchasing my first PS3..any recommendations on model or bundle?

StarryWisdom

CAGiversary!
I've been a large PC gamer over the years, and bought a launch 360. I got a much larger tax return back this year and wanting to expand my collection. I've searched around for a bit on the net(Amazon has like 430982 models/bundles) and honestly I haven't kept up with console editions(x360 or PS3) so it's a little overwhelming.

I play just about every game genre, so finding a bundle is proving difficult. Anyone got any recommendations on what I should pick up?

The immediate answer that a lot of people would probably say is to buy a slim PS3, not a super slim. If you are concerned about space then go for a larger hard drive to start or go with a smaller hard drive and swap in a large HDD. It really depends on what you are planning to use it for. Also if it were me I would not be super anxious to pick one up and wait until they are on sale somewhere. It seems like there is a sale every couple of weeks anymore.
Second that, super slim model sucks in my opinion. Just felt poorly made.
And all 360 models ARE poorly made not just felt poorly made. VA VA VA VOOM! Got 50 broken 360s in my closet. SHAZAM!

Here's a refurbished 160GB Slim sold by Sony so you know it's good plus it has the same warranty as a new PS3. $199.99 Shipped.

Also, since you're a fan of every genre, I'd start off with all of the collections that PS3 has released. They range from having 2-5 games and are a great deal.

Last sales were only for 25-50~USD off right? Or has there been some better stuff recently. I thought about it for a bit but theres no real 'shopping holiday' or reason for big sales coming up which is why I'm thinking about heading out today to pick it up.

+1 for standard slim version, have owned one for about 2 years now and besides the occasional freeze (usually caused by the software, not hardware), no problems whatsoever.

PS+ should definitely be considered if you're looking for an instant collection, and if you have any plans to pick up a Vita, is a no-brainer.
