do you think these will drop anymore in the near time future? they have already announce the next upcoming line for the xbrs. i been wanting one but i keep holding off until they drop it just under the 2000 mark. i'm in the nyc area btw.

It depends on how long stores still have them instock once the new models come out. They are on clearance at Best Buy right now so they are starting to be discounted, but they will have to sit on the shelves longer for them to see another price drop. You might also be able to talk a manager into dropping it a little more that way they can move it before it reaches its "end of life" and they send it back to the warehouse. That costs the store more than just discounting it a little bit more.

It really just depends on the new models but Bravias are usually in high demand so if there is a good price, they're snagged up quickly since they're consumer HDTVs.

ok so i'm thinking of doing this but i'm not so sure if it's the best deal.

i'm thinking of going to bestbuy and buying the hdtv but price matching jandr's price of 2199. with the extra 10 or 12 percent off that comes to roughly under 1800 or somehting plus i don't pay tax because i'm having it shipped to jersey city. so all and al i pay 1880 with 24 months no interest

Is there a B&M J&R around you? Because if not its a huge YMMV to get them to price match.

yea there is. and i asked them about it and they said "oh god your killing us! haha nah man we'll price match it for you! also i have a friend who works there that can hook me up with the discount

The extra 10% on the difference is when you purchase a TV and come back to price match later. You might have to buy it at full price then price match J&R to get the extra discount. Depends on the employee and manager normally, but the official policy is just price match at the time of sale, but you get 10% off the difference if you find a lower price later.

There a J and R in NYC also, if u were going to check that place out(The price for the tv there are realy good and so is the warrenty).

Is the sony you are talking about a RPTV(Rear Projected) or is it an lcd/plasma?

Also the 10% off price matching, don't work well at the best buy in my area and i'm also from NY.
I'm also trying to get an HDTV, hopfully by July 4th there will be a big sale.

I might go for the deal BestBuy is advertising tomorrow. For $2,086.99 I can get the 40" bravia, a game, a blu ray movie and the PS3 as a bundle deal....

Dont know if that is a good deal or not...

Was thinking about a sharp aquos but this one LC46D43U doesnt go up to 1080p and does not have many reviews.....

Can anyone give me some input on what I should do?

Im not sure if the sony's (model number KDL40V2500) can handle 1080p since its supposedly an older model......

That is definitely an awesome price. You add it altogether and you just saved almost $700. The cheapest I've seen is like $1650 on Amazon and around the same price on eBay. If you're looking to buy both and have the money, that's a pretty good deal right there.

And yes, according to this, it does support 1080p: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889252032

Of course, if you're always looking to save money, you can grab that deal, sell the PS3 with the other stuff on eBay, and save the $600+ (the PS3s alone are always selling under $600 these days).

Does screen size realy matter when buying a(n) HDTV & getting the full value of 1080p?

It's totally up to you. What room are you putting this in? Honestly, anything more than 32" is a little too much for me, but that's because I'm putting mine (when I get an HDTV) in a dorm room or in my bedroom. Anything more would just be too outside my range. Unless you're putting this in a family room, I'd say go for smaller. You'd save hundreds of dollars, and there are always really good smaller HDTVs.

This one looks pretty good to me: http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-LC32GP1U-1080p-Gaming/dp/B000NKAYWG

You get 1080p, a 10,000:1 contrast ratio (the Sony Bravia has 7000:1), and is built specifically for gaming and reducing video lag. It got a 7.2/10 from Cnet Reviews.

But hey, if you want to get a really good 40" for a little over $1300 if you did what I mentioned, you can definitely go for that as well. You won't be able to achieve full benefits of 1080p without a screen of this size or more, anyway.

In the living rule & I was looking for a tv since our's started messing up.

If it's living room, definitely consider picking up a big TV. The problem is, Sony tends to pretty much overcharge for their televisions (they even criticized Vizio for bringing the price of HDTVs down :p).

See, look at this: http://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-LVM-42W2-1080p-Video-Monitor/dp/B000E7RACK

The Westinghouse LCD TV's I've seen at Target look really good. The picture is just popping with detail and color.

Basically, I'd say find alternatives to the Sony Bravia. They may be high in demand, but there are better, cheaper models out there. I have an account on ConsumerReports.org, and the XBR2 is rated below the Sharp, and it's $1000 more. That's what you have to consider.

Since you're spending over $1000, even $2000, I'd say find a store that has this Sony Bravia, and go check it out for yourself. Ask the salesman plenty of questions. You may find that it's not worth that type of money. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's much, if any, better, as I mentioned above.

I would recommend waiting until this Fall when HDTV prices really start to drop, but since your TV is messing up, I probably wouldn't wait a bit longer. lol

Thanks for the answers Karuto....

I think I might just go and pick up that Sony tv since I also have a triple points card that I have to use up by tomorrow.

Plus, getting a free PS3 is not too shabby of a deal :)

The sharp Aquos 46" is on sale online at Costco with a coupon I think for $1,499. The thing is I couldnt find a lot of info on it or reviews....plus ive never seen it at my local costco...

Since this TV is formy newly renovated living room, big is good.

Yeah, we have a(n) old projection tv with no HD for like, almost 7 years & now the images look like cinorama(or whatever it it's called). The tv line are all seperated (red, green, blue?) And is this a good tv?:

And is HDMI 1.3 really worth the wait?

Don't be fooled by dynamic contrast ratio. A 10000:1 dynamic contrast ratio is just a marketing technique. Most LCDs can't do more than 2000:1 actual contrast ratio and 1000:1 seems to be the most common number. We won't see real contrast ratios like that for a while (Samsung is supposed to have a 10000:1 contrast ratio LCD out soon though).

As for size, yes, it does matter. The high the resolution, the more pixels a screen has. 1080p on a 32" isn't as noticeable as 1080p on a 52" screen. The larger the screen gets, the larger each individual pixel becomes so if you get a larger screen, then it's better to have more pixels since that means more clarity. It also depends on how far from the TV you sit... the closer you sit, the detail you'll notice and hence, it's better to have more pixels.

Take a gander here for more info on screen size, resolution, and sitting distance.

I personally have a 32" Sharp Aquos that I got recent and it's fantastic. But the Bravia line is much better these days, especially for anything over 42". But the Bravias are expensive, I only paid $780 for mine. It only does 720p but that doesn't matter to me since I don't plan to sit 2 feet away from my TV.

I picked up the sony Bravia today from BestBuy and WOW!!

My first HDTV set but it looks exceptional. I checked for over an hour at the store over the tvs and was reluctant with the Sony as I saw a lot of blocks and squares that blipped up on screen at fast movements. But at the end I bought it with the PS3, Casino Royale and Motorstorm.
The thing I really didnt want to get was the monster HDMI cable, but I bit and bought it anyway for the $150 price (it was the ultra 1000).

I set it up at home and and was amazed at the picture quality. That HDMI cable paid off as the PS3 movie and game looks really crisp and ultra sharp...I had to tone it down while watching Casino Royale! (it started giving my uncle headaches)

Definetly happy with my purchase

Well, I was gonna say that Monster cables are really overpriced and you can get the same types of cables for like $15-$20, but this is coming from a guy who never used them and only read about them, so I don't think my opinion really matters.

I'm so happy you enjoyed your purchase! I wish I could afford such awesome technology, and you got the choices I would have made (very limited choices, but perfect anyway). Casino Royale in HD would just blow me away. I'm buying my own HDTV soon, so here's to hoping I have the same reaction! :D

Thing is though, I had the triple points card so that really made up for me picking up those Monster cables....

Casino Royale is stunning. You can see the pores on the faces, the water and other colors are vibrant and everything looks crystal clear (until you start geting real close, but really....are you going to be watching movies like that? ;) )

Good luck on your purchase of an HD set in the future!

Im sure that newer and better models would be popping up soon....maybe even cheaper since there are so many around.

I recieved the BestBuy ad on Saturday.

They sorta insert it in with the junk ads/flyers that they toss to people's houses. Same thing with Circuit City....except thats a day earlier.

If anything, Speedy over at the DVD thread can hook you up with early papers as he gets new ones almost one week in advance!

Are there any TVs noticbly better than a Sharp Aquos for $2,500? I had a 46" Shapr that did a face plant and now I have to replace it. Unfortunately, it looped-holed tiself out of my homeowner's insurance coverage. I really like the picture and will get another unless there is something that it better for the same price. Samsung and LG have similar sized LCD units in the same ballpark with Sony being several hundred higher. BJ's has a 47" 1080p Phillips, but the picture was not all that great.

On an unrelated note, is it possible to fix a set that has a piece of the screen missing?
