RAM Questions

CAGiversary!
I have a couple questions about RAM. First, is there a noticable difference between PC2100 RAM and PC3200. And is it worth it to spend $40 more on a gig of DDR 2 RAM at 533 MHZ instead of DDR 2 RAM at 400MHZ?

The question you need to ask yourself is, will you want to upgrade anytime soon? If you're the type of computer user that like to buy things fairly regularly, then I'd save save the $40. If you think this will last you awhile, splurge the $40 and you will get increased performance, but as to whether or not its $40 worth of performance, I cannot say.

The 2100 3200 question is an easy one. 3200 is significantly better.

The only thing that having faster ram will allow you to do is overclock your chip faster.

If you have a 3.0 Ghz Northwood, lets say....and you want to run it at 3.5 Ghz, you need to have RAM that is fast enough to keep up as you continually jack up the bus speed.

Having said that: Go with the fastest ram you can.....because if you ever buy a faster chip, that faster chip may require the faster ram just to run at its rated speed.
