Random 5 Digit Generator?

So i was at work today and some lady returned a 12month LIVE card because her son scratched five digits off of the card. All other digits are still there. I just wanted to ask how do people figure out those 5 digits? I've seen codes being dropped in this format: (FFFFF-FFFFF-FFFFF-?????-FFFFF) and people are able to redeem them. I'm just wondering how, and it would be great if one of you would help me out with this. Thanks!

Codes being drop usually had one digit remove, not 5.  You do realize how many combination it would take to guess all 5 digits?

No I'm not sure. Wouldn't it be 125 considering Microsoft doesn't use AEIOULSN015 in their codes leaving 25 possible digits multiplied by 5?

More like 25 X 25 X 25 X 25 X 25.  Maybe a little less if they don't have 2 same digits in a role, which would be 25 X 24 X 24 X 24 X 24.
