Red Star & Raiden 3 for PS2 $12.99 Each

The Xbox version of red star was leaked a while back and it's a great beat 'm up, but don't expect anything more than that. Worth it for cheap tho'
Nice prices, but last time I preordered a game from this place, I never got it. I am wary of buy.com.
Yep, same problem here... with two different games...

Exactly what I'm looking for. I haven't played a good beat em up since the SNES days.

Last I heard Red Star was shelved indefinitely when Acclaim went to the big publisher in the sky. Glad to hear it's back, but I hope that the development team actually brings the game up to speed.

wow, I had no clue Red Star was getting an official release. It was a really fun game though. My friend found it for his Xbox, and we had a good time playing it. Definitely worth the bargain price.

I playing Red Star on both the PS2 and the Xbox versions at E3 (3 years ago I think), I remember the PS2 version had alot of problems or the xbox verson was way better.

I'd heard these games were getting released, but I had no idea they'd be this cheap. I'll definitely pick up both.

From somewhere else, though.

Holy shit! Red Star is actually coming out?!? Awesome! I was really looking foward to that. I thought the OPSM demo from a couple years back was pretty cool.

And Raiden III in America, for cheap?! Count me in!!

Exactly what I was thinking and going to say.

Raiden III looks great and especially at that price. Will it be a tough find like Castle Shikigami 2 is? I still can't find that game anywhere.

And are there any recent screens of Red Star?

Ive own the import version of raiden (which ive beaten 3x over not counting boss attack adn trial modes). If you play Shmups, these 2 games should already be a must buy for you.

I'm a little hesitant to pre-order from a online warehouse site for a game that I wouldn't be getting til August. I've pre-ordered online, just to have the price raised on me when the game came out and told to re-pay $10 more. (Overstock) Not cool.

If I do a preorder again, it'll probably be in persona at a store to avoid any possible hassles.

I really want Raiden 3. For that price, it's just too good to pass up. Red Star I'd have to wait and see how it looks and handles before I drop any money on it. Just because it is a cheap game doesn't mean that it's worth it. That's what I've learned this year and it has really helped me tighten my belt.

I too still am unable to find a Castle Shikigami 2 anywhere.
Have we heard if there is an Xbox release planned for Red Star? I played the demo in OXM so I know it existed somewhere.
XS is taking a wait and see approach to the XBOX release, which kind of sucks and is stupid. How much does it really cost them to press a run? I'm pretty sure the game was finished, so it's not like they have to devote resources to finishing it.

I bought 2 copies of Shikigami and now I see it plenty of places in manhattan so I gave the secondone to a friend. In fact I just saw it again yesterday for 10 bucks.

Also I don't see a problem buying form Buy.com, preordering a game two months in advance might be a questionable choice though.

I was THISCLOSE to buying Raiden 3 @ Geo (a gaming chain here in Japan) for about $48~ yesterday.

Good thing I waited! :D

buy shumups! show them we want more!

next up: Ibara for $12

red star is in development for a movie to be made. I've met the creator he's a good guy. Hope it works out. I have evey comic and variant he put out.

One of the guys who did the CG for the comic was the fat guy from Power Rangers, freaky!

I remember being at the E3 that the game premired at but E3 being what it is you never get to see everything. I'm probably going to buy this sight unseen the instant it's availible, I hope it's not still a buggy beta version.

The games are being released by the same people who released Mobile Light Force 2, and Castle Shikigami 2, which were actually both quite decent budget shooters. But both of them were released for around $10-$15, so I wouldn't expect these to be TOO different.

It's nice to see Red Star finally coming out. Perhaps the fact that it's based on a comic book, the creators might have retained some of the rights when Acclaim went under and were able to shop it around to another publisher???

Wow! Can't wait to get Red Star, I was very sad that it was cancelled. Comes out on my birthday too, bonus points for that :).

And Raiden III is freakin' great. Was well worth the $60 I paid for it brand new when it was released in Japan. Just hope the port is unchanged, like the butchered US release of Shikigami no Shiro (released here as Mobile Light Force 2). This "Jack of All Games" publisher has some relation to XS Games (if it isn't the exact same company), who released the bad ports of Gunbird (as Mobile Light Force) and the aforementioned Shikigami no Shiro.

As a matter of fact, in this situation the production commitment is where the serious money becomes a factor. The acquisition of the Xbox version came as part of the same auction item as the PS2 version. So that cost is already covered. Completeing the PS2 version also covers some other expenses for the Xbox version in regard to finalizing details.

Up until that point there has been hardly any cost on the Xbox side. It's all been PS2 with the Xbox version remaing latent. Once they commit to the Xbox version they have several thousand dollars in new costs, depending on how close to complete it was when Acclaim imploded. Those cost could be anywhere from $5K to many times that amount, depending on how much labor is required. Then there are the costs for printing up the Xbox manuals and sleeve insert. Finally, there is the royalty paid to Microsoft for each disc produced.

So yeah, for a little tiny import specialist, it really is a big expense to take a chance on the Xbox version until they feel assured of the game getting a decent reception. It means going from effectively zero to tens of thousands of dollars. Easily past $100K before anything has been sold.

OTOH, if there is found to be a decent market for an Xbox release, that allows much of the cost entirely shouldered by the PS2 version to retroactively shared and make that version more profitable even if the Xbox one only breaks even.

If you've wondered why there aren't more tiny publishers doing this, there you go. Get me $100K in cash and a $million line of credit and one year later you too can be a publisher of budget video games. Or the owner of a fine tax shelter.

Perhaps CheapyD can start scouting potential game properties in Japan and some of us CAGs can create this company. One of you must have the capital lying around. C'mon! Lets do it!
may I ask why?
because you will still be waiting for your game while everyone else is playing theirs. Both games will more than likely retail for $14.99 at places like Ebgames/Gamestop so it's just easier to pick them up instore.

Also, I think that another good reason there wouldn't be an Xbox version is because the Xbox is pretty much dead right now. MS has pulled its support and all it has left is minimal 3rd party support. Many of the big Xbox supporters have moved onto Xbox 360 or are about to later this year. PS2 still has 100% of its life still in it, where Sony hasn't stopped supporting PS2 and it still has large selection of exclusive 3rd party exclusives coming to it. That's why I see XS Games only releasing the PS2 version, which makes sense to me.

It's not worth the risk to publish for a dead system. It'd be different if this was the last system in a line like the Dreamcast, but the 360 will make everyone forget about the Xbox. Budget PS2 titles will be much more profitable in the coming year even with the PS3 coming out solely because of price and the inevitable shortages.

Remember XS games was supposed to release Castle Shikigami 2 for the xbox and that fell through. I'm not sure exactly what happened but maybe they don't want to get burned again.
