Redbox - Photocopied Game
I'm surprised that they haven't figured this out yet... this is such a widespread problem, you'd think they'd use some kind of a built in disc reader or something. Then again, it's probably not cost effective.
It's not cost-effective either when they lose a newly released game.

I know you can buy used movies from Redbox, but what about games? If not, why don't they send their games to be screenprinted with something like "Property of Redbox" really big. If anything, it will make it pretty obvious if someone is stealing and reselling them.

You can buy redbox games they are like $64 if you don't return it. But people are scamming them just check ebay people sell them with labels still on them or you can see where the label was removed and they did horrible job. Just look at redbox then search the games disc only on ebay and you will see they are finding prepaid card that works and doing this.

I seen this one guy sold over 100 redbox dvd, games disc only everytime exact ones redbox has that is felony if he gets caught because thats over 10k at retail price.

Here a few that i just noticed. You can clearly See where the label was removed and still residue around center of disc. Then you click there feedback and look at all items they sold same games over and over disc only.

I understand that if you don't return it, you pay. What I'm saying is something a little more permanent and obvious than a little sticker residue. I'm sure if it said clear as day "PROPERTY OF REDBOX. NOT FOR SALE" it would deter some of these people stealing and selling them, especially once the negative feedback started rolling in.

I love how it says 'few scratches on top'. Apparently, those are the scratches from taking off the RedBox sticker.

that could be solved by putting a super adhesive stick on top of the whole disc that says REDBOX all over it, and printed so that the words can't be taken off with rubbing alcohol.

not sure how they can fix the photocopying though. That's just going to be a problem with any scan based system.

There is a person on Craigslist here in KC that is always listing disc-only games that match the exact inventory that Redbox has. Pretty sure they are from Redbox, especially considering they only have disc 1 for games like Assassin's Creed 3 where Redbox only puts disc 1 in..... Feel sorry for the person's CC that they stole.. either that or they are using one of those pre-loaded cards with a fake name attached to it.

Wish there was an easy way to report this a-hole. Doesn't effect me directly, but it still pisses me off because I legitimately like Redbox and don't want to lose game rentals.

Checking the weight could fix the photo-copy problem, but then I'm sure people would just use DVD-R or CDR discs.

Monoxide: You should try reporting him to that anti-piracy group that always advertises about business software piracy on the radio. If the #'s are big enough, they might be interested... and who knows, maybe you can get a reward.

What a douche.

just picked up a couple of games this morning, since i'm off work today, with my free codes i've been waiting to use, and had to double check both of them once i saw this thread, but then again, people aren't that bright here in rural NC, to do something like this.

Speaking of the devil, re-posted today...

I love how that dumbass is listing most-likely stolen used disc-only Redbox games with scratches and sticker residue as "Like New". I've also been noticing lots of disc only brand new released games sold on Amazon and even listed in local trade sources (someone on here mentioned Craigslist). Is there such an easy loophole (I guess there's the "photo copy" trick that they seem to be using) that these asshole thieves are getting away with this? Does Redbox really accept pre-paid cards?

No they don't but there could be a special pre-paid card that works. Most likely stolen CC. In Austin there was a guy who kept on posting the pic of the disc (with the obvious rebox label) saying "new" with no case.

Have some links or PDFs of his CL ads. Let Redbox decide if its worth taking to the police. Then you've at least done your part.

Many months ago I was with a friend who wanted to rent a movie. A guy who went immediately after us rented something and got a recordable disc with the bar codes printed on the inner plastic, but the name of the movie just handwritten in sharpie over the rest of the disc.

I've always wondered if the thief from that day was nice enough to replace the stolen disc with an actual, burned copy or if it was just an empty disc. Would be amusing if it were the former.

Might have been the DVD for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It fooled me at first thinking someone has ripped off Redbox.

I remember renting this and thinking the same. Then I inspected it closer and noticed the digital Sharpie and realized it was a nod to the main character. I saw the original source I knew. I always look at the disc to make sure it's correct and you can tell the weight difference with and without the disc.

My mom recently rented a movie and whoever rented it before just put the sticker with no disc. She called RB and they gave her a code to rent another movie and credited her card for that one.

I wonder if RedBox would ever shut down kiosks with high levels of theft. The thieves selling on Craigslist or eBay probably clean up all the same kiosks in town. Maybe the profits really outweigh the money they're losing to replace discs.

to those wondering its easy to do this too just go to redbox rent about a couple or four new games lose card (debit card) report stolen redbox cant charge that is how they are doing it if i wanted to do it i could too!!!
Hey look, our annual monthly thread about photo copies red box games.
Hey look, this thread was started in 2011.
LOL! I found another one this person just leaves the redbox stickers on them i laughed so hard. Look at listed and sold items in feedback all have redbox sticker on them.

I'm going to message him about it, let's see what he says. I suggest everybody do the same thing!!!

EDIT: I've never used a redbox before but he might be scamming multiple people if anybody want's to take it a step further and call local Reno police enforcement. I just have a feeling this person may have some sort of job where he get's access to peoples personal information or even credit cards to create accounts to steal the disc.
