Gah, I would kill for a UMvC3 guide. All my Gamestops are so on top of penny stuff, though. I'll have better luck holding out for a new batch of Best Buy drops.

gwah, I think thats even worse. Whole situation just sucks nowadays. All the GameStops, and I mean at least 6 I visit, only display the newest guides right in front of the cash register. All other guides are stored in the back room. When I asked for the $5 Future Press guides, it took a guy 5 mins to realize where they might be. All the turning spindles of yester-year are long gone. But good riddance b/c they just damaged the hell out of the paperbacks anyways..

I've given into Half-Price Books and Amazon for anything under $8 that I really want, and stalk a bunch of guides until they get that low. May have to start buying from third-party sellers too.
 
I'd love to pick up an UMVC3 guide or any penny guide, to be honest, but my Gamestop has really cracked down. When there's one out there, they always let me have it, but they're pretty much always on the ball nowadays.
 
Ended up going back into the same store where I got the new Zelda CE picked up a few more guides that guy asked me how did I know which ones were Pennied out. Just told. Him i have a really good source

I really wish I would have checked this thread earlier today. I went in to GS to use my PS3 50% coupon today but had no idea about the drop. :wall:

picked up a Zelda CE. How I got one was quite amusing...

I walked into a slightly out of the way Gamestop only to find all of the drops still there on the shelves. Now the one I was really interested in was Zelda, so I took it to the counter. It rang up a penny and the girl working there didnt know what to do. She asked her other guy coworker and he said to OVERRIDE it to the actual price...He started telling me thats what happens they have to be overridden and no other way. I said no thanks, so he took it from me and had the girl pull the rest.

...now at this point if he would have just said no I cant sell it, I would have walked away...but overriding is a big no-no for me... SO I made up that I used to work at GS and corporate specifically said never to do that, that I knew corporate was VERY AGAINST THAT and that Id Ill call them and ask what they think about that (I wasnt really going to lol). He started getting a bit nervous at this stuff and after a few more sentences of discussing policies he finally just gave it to me for free and said "Since you know the rules, stop trying to get them when they drop like this, come on..."

I did tell him I appreciate it

Damn. 2nd attempt to get a Mass Effect 3 CE guide from goHastings = failure.
1st time they sent it to WA instead of PA. Yea, not even close. After a month of waiting for them to get it back and reship , nothing happened and they refunded. Fast forward 3 months, and I ordered it again. Today, i get the package and its the paperback version. Damn it all.

noticed a lone guide next to dumpster behind GS laying on the ground, cover torn off...pretty rough shape guide so it may just be a throwaway...

Thanks for the information, however, that guide has already dropped. It should ring up a penny in stores.
 
I actually found some penny guides at a Gamestop today but was denied. Nothing special though.

Since this topic is already bumped... I know a guy that has some awesome, not run of the mill guides in a lowball...

I hate gohasting too as well. I've ordered a PC game "The Last Remnant" from them, and they ended up sending me an out of country version of it. I sent it back and got refunded, but still I don't want to deal with them unless I have to. I am willing to spend the extra 50 cents sometimes if I have it when gohastings is cheaper.
 
RAGE has its sku deleted when I checked today at Best Buy. Jackass knew the procedure and wouldn't give it or sell it.

^ I think they pennied out at least a couple of weeks ago; they all disappeared and were replaced by newer shirts.

Ah, yes on 11/1 invizibleskratchpikl reported that the Diablo 3 and Ghost Recon shirts pennied on 10/31 at GS.

and there is a lowball with a whole bunch of guides + other stuff going on right now... :D

Grabbed a sealed Metroid Prime Trilogy guide at TRU.

Guide rang up as $0.00 and the cashier gave it to me. I was worried she might not. When I scanned it at the price checker, it said Reg Price $0.01 Sale Price $0.00
 
Oh to still be near a TRU, I would have liked getting a Prime Trilogy guide.

Off topic, but I didn't realize IatCG got banned - heh. What caused this?
 
Wait, what? I've been out of the loop lately -- IATCAG got banned? And he (allegedy) may have caused BB to stop dropping guides? Can someone catch me up?

Long story short, one of IATCAG's local seller been selling pennied guides from BBY and IATCAG was not able to get them anymore from his local store. IATCAG got mad and wrote a letter to the guide publisher about it. Around the same time BBY finally stop selling penny guides. Put the two together and many of us blame IATCAG for this. Remember many of us been getting guides from BBY for years.

This is a mishmash of about 4 different stories and wrong.

IATCG got banned from gamestop after he bought a ton of penny guides and traded in a bunch of HDMIs and got on the radar of some local manager.

IATCG got banned from here due to arguing with the likes of Confoosius and anti flippers and the like. It also didnt help his case he ranted against SHC gamer in a profane manner. He didnt end penny guides at BBY lol.
 
I was surprised to see he was banned. I never had a problem with him. I also don't attribute the loss of penny guides at Best Buy to him, but I don't want to open up that can of worms in this thread.

I like to think, somewhere, somehow, he's watching over us and smiling.

This is probably correct, but the exact cause is unknown to me. As far as him and not getting guides at BB anymore is a good timing correlation.

Does BB still pennies stuff? If they do then its probably his fault, if guides are the only thing deleted out of the system and not being pennied but other stuff is.
 
There's no definitive proof that his butthurt-influenced letter to a publisher (I don't know if he ever said which one) absolutely caused the backlash for BB to change their .01 guide process but the timing was far more than just coincidental. Add in that he came in this thread (a previous one) and actually bragged about writing the letter in a public forum and it's not a stretch at all to believe that he indirectly influenced the change in BB's procedure. The fact that he gave no consideration to how his actions would affect others and thought he should publicly declare what he did speaks volumes about his narcissism.

Good riddance.
 
I'll admit that he was controversial and anecdotal, but as someone who had traded with him I can say IATCG was very reliable and helpful.

Finally, I'm pretty sure that IATCG thought his gamestop ban spawned from trading in a number of HDMI cables.

On topic, I hope to score some guides.
 
If he was the one who ended BBY guides then his ban is justified to me. That was a long standing tradition.

Sure it could have been for some other reason. But think of it this way. Us Caggers along with some flippers out there have been hammering penny guides at BBY for many many years and BBY never changed their policy until just recent. So Ill buy into the IATCAG theory. I as well as many of us have been grabbing dozens of penny guides at our BBYs for 5+ years and never did BB yell at us or ban us or change their policy. So for something to finally be done it had to be something that tipped them off... or just new management.
 
I was buying guides for a penny at BBY since 2002, before CAG even existed and only once did I ever have a problem, it does seem strange that right after he writes that letter, all of the sudden guides go out of the system instead of dropping to a penny.

Yes they still penny stuff, right now there is a Tron: Flynn's Arcade T-Shirt for a penny on BestBuy.com but of course it is sold out (for some reason it wouldn't let me directly link to it).

This was also around the time BB gaming got their shit together and started being competitive about their tradeins so it could have been that also but we will never know if that was true or not.

I do miss my .01 money makers though, only time I ever stepped in BB was for guides, now it is to trade and flip games but always look at the guide rack just to see if they missed one or other .01 items to get me over that dollar evan mark to use a cert.
 
i personally think having IATCG banned as a huge loss due to the years he spent on running this tread, his experience, and yes even i have traded with him (still have a Fable 2 Hardcover sealed from him). i think that 99.9% of bans on here are just but i wish the admins would take into consideration how long someone has been on this site and the support they've given. i have been a lurker for years and never say anything but gotta say i've seen some of the greatest be banned due to giving their opinion and then the heards of whiney babies come out crying cuz they can't read another point of view. i understand the admins are here to keep the peace and get pressured but come on that dude was cool!
