I need a cheap HDD. I'm building my mom a cheap PC (AMD Sempron AM2 3000+, GeForce6100SM-M, 1GB Corsair DDR2 667) since she hasn't had one since I moved out 8 years ago, so I thought I would surprise her with a PC. I have everything but the HDD.

I can't find any deals on smaller hard drives, just large ones. Any size would be ok since the PC will be used mostly for email and the internet(20GB - 40GB would be enough.) It doesn't matter if it is SATA or Ultra ATA since the MB supports both.

I'm simply looking for the cheapest HDD without any mail in rebates.

that drive has some horrible reviews off newegg.
i think you should avoid that one, it wont be good if it fails out on your mom and she wont be able to replace it herself.

two better alternatives at around the same price

40gb western digital with good reviews

80gb Excelstor, more of an unknown brand but looks decent

Thanks for the input I was hoping to find something in the $30 - $35 shipped range.

I hate it that it cost $38 for for 40GB, $41 for 80GB and $50 for 160GB. I guess that is just the way it goes.
