Any recommendation between Vesperia and Tales of Fate? I have $7.00 in gift cards left over from the Google deal expiring next week. I don't have either, but both interest me equally. Recommendations appreciate.

And thanks OP for the post.

Vesperia all the way

Loved Vesperia- it's probably the better of the two. That being said, I just finished RoF last night and liked it way more than I thought I would. Both are recommended highly for that price.

If you like anime-style graphics and a storyline more along the lines of a Final Fantasy (saving the world, off-kilter companions, nature going crazy, etc.) then Tales is probably a better bet. The voice acting is horrible though, and if annoying characters get to you, you'll have to endure quite the eardrum pounding. The combat system is quite deep and fun though, and of course you can do your standard item farming and rare enemy hunting, which can eat up hours too.

Resonance has a pretty ridiculous, unexplainable story, but the battle system is among the deepest and most innovative I've ever played with. I personally think that by itself warrants a purchase. The problem is that it has a very steep learning curve, and is pretty unforgiving. Characters are more "mature," but lack the personality that they have in Vesperia.

Overall I'd say Vesperia is a safer purchase since it's more traditional but it does a lot of things JRPGs do a lot better (like the combat). ROF is more of a risk, but could really grow on you if you like tactical strategy and hard battles.

I own both, have beat both, and like ROF better because of the combat system. But this is coming from someone who played a crapton of JRPGs in the PS2 days who had gotten sick of their cliches.
