Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

We had some members that were more focused on bass, but I don't know if they're still around.

I'm not big into bass, though I mess around with it like an idiot, so...

SHORT answer - Squier bronco bass

-you can get them for $150 from Sweetwater or Amazon

LONG answer - bunch of things you need to consider

-do you want a long scale(34") or short scale(30") bass

-what kind of music: modern rock, metal (think of solidbody bass), more woody tones (then think hollow or semihollow bass)

-what budget were you thinking about

-are you planning to use it only with Rocksmith (or other similar program) or buying an amp (cabinet or headphone amp)

-etc. etc. etc.

I'm just focusing on "NEW" purchases, so what I'm saying is based around that, as well as the ability to buy from a retailer that would provide you with easy access as well as an easy return process (should it be necessary).

-the bronco bass is pretty much the mainstream budget bass guitar that'll get you started. The build will most likely be fine, though you could end up with a stinker.

-if you're looking to spend around the $200 price range then consider some models like the Ibanez GSR200 or Yamaha RBX170

<UPDATE: as of 01/09/2020>Guitar Center just put the Yamaha model on sale for $160, in black or sunburst

-around the $300 price range, I'd say check out the Sterling by MusicMan bass guitars

-around $400, start looking at the Squier Classic Vibe models.

I think researching those models will help you get a feel for things that people like on each. That in turn should give you more knowledge as you compare between other models and hopefully narrow down your choice.

And do yourself a favor; start looking at the basics of guitar/bass setup. A simple 5min Youtube video will do you wonders in understanding tuning, intonation and string action. You'll want to know this regardless of the model you buy.

Unless you're buying Reverend... their stuff always seems to be good right out of the box. But seriously, google a video... it'll do you good.

I seem to be missing all of my dlc. I know I had this problem once in the past but I don’t remember if I ever resolved it or if I just still have this problem. It’s been quite some time since I’ve played the game

Edit: I have the dlc downloaded; I can see it when I look under game management in the Xbox menu. If I search dlc I own in the game I get two error screens. First screen says “Looks like you already on this. Go to my games or my library on your home device to download it”. The second screen says “You already own ‘artist - song’. You can get it in your games and apps collection”.

So does anybody know the fix? How do I get access to my songs?

I had something similar happen when I first moved over to X1 from my 360, but it sorta fixed itself over time.

Recently experienced a similar problem on PS4, after upgrading the hd to a ssd. There's one program that won't open even though the system shows it as installed and the online store shows I already own it.

Best solution I keep finding is to do a full wipe/reformat and re-download everything... yeah, not gonna bother with that.

Short of that, I would try signing out of your account, then signing back in again. Also check if you have other account profiles; maybe the content got linked to a different profile?

That's exciting news about a new project. Maybe a new Rocksmith, but I wonder... if just another regular Rocksmith entry had been the plan all along, why would they do that now and not years ago? Maybe they have a radically new idea up their sleeves.

So, my theory ia perhaps they're going all-out and doing a full Bandsmith. All of the usual guitar stuff, with the addition of vocals to teach people to sing. Quite possibly midi keyboard support for teaching piano/keyboard as well. And maybe, just maybe drums.. with their own peripheral tabletop digital drumset?
 
I love using this as a makeshift amp. Let's me experiment with so many sounds without wasting money on pedals I won't use LOL. I havent actually played the game as intended because my guitarts not in standard tuning. This game desperately needs songs in different tunings. The fact that it doesnt recognize I want to be in drop D is kinda silly. Pretty common tuning.

 
There are lots of songs in this game that are drop d tuning (and others). You can even sort the song list by tuning.

Also, why not just retune to play other songs? Only way I can see this as being an issue is if you have a locking nut for a Floyd Rose or something

Has anybody played this using a mic and acoustic guitar?  Saw it in my Steam library and forgot I had bought it there (had it for Xbox way back when) so looked up what had changed since and saw about this option.

If so, is there a cheap mic anybody would recommend?  Probably not getting an electric again for a while so if I want to play this is my option.

I have only ever used them for vocals, but I use usb mics from video games like Sing It, Lips, Rockband, etc. I have a few of them that I got for super cheap/free. I bet there is a good chance you could pick them up at your local thrift store or game store on the cheap

Most I’ve spent on a guitar was $1550 on a Gibson Thunderhorse Explorer. I was sad to part with it but I sold it for $2600 5 years later. Took $845 of the profit and bought an on-sale Alpine White Gibson Flying V from reverb.com. I like to think of it as I got the V for “free”

Hey everyone, need some help. I bought a Dean Vendetta when Rocksmith came out and tried it for a little but bounced off the game. It was before the remastered version was released so I'm guessing about 2012. I haven't touched it since so I just recently changed the strings and dusted it. When I connect the real tone cable, I don't get a signal in game to calibrate except for interference when I move the cable around. I tried it on steam with different USB ports 2.0 and 3.0, and with the disc on xbox 360 on two different consoles. the remastered version is only $7 on xbox one right now so I'm tempted to buy it to try but figure it will have the same results. Any suggestions to the problem with the guitar?

Take the guitar to a shop.

My bass had similar issues and they ended up swapping out the output jack. Although, I did have a guitar around to verify it wasn't the cable. However, since your guitar has been sitting, might not hurt to have a professional take a look at tune it up anyways.

Am I correct that you are talking about the original Rocksmith and not 2014? If so, definitely pick it up. The original and 2014, which was what got a remaster recently, are almost night and day when it comes to detection.

I have the original Rocksmith disc on xbox 360 but I have the remastered version on steam. I'll probably just get the remaster on xbone since it's so cheap anyhow. About how much did it cost to change the output jack? I never repaired a guitar so I'm wondering if the cost is worth it since I only paid about $80 for this back then. But I did read that it's pretty solid for the price and don't think any other guitars near $100 were as good even now.

I had to double check, but doesn't look like there was a remaster of the original Rocksmith, so all remasters should be the superior 2014 edition. I can't speak to Xbone over Steam, both should run it fine.

TBH, I don't think he charged me. Jacks themselves are only a few dollars, so I can't see it being that expensive. You should be able to get an estimate before committing to the cost of the repair. If the Xbone sale will be going for much longer, maybe save the $7 to go towards any repair, try it out on your PC and then decide if its worth the extra copy.

Either way, if you have any interest in playing guitar, at all, its all going to be worth it. 60 days with Rocksmith is eye opening.

Do you have a way to test the guitar without using the rocksmith cable... like a regular instrument cable to an amp? Or maybe one of those mini headphone-amps that plug directly to the guitar?

That would help in figuring out if the problem is the guitar or the rocksmith cable.

If it wasn't for 2020, I'd say go into a local GuitarCenter with your guitar and say you're "shopping for a new amp and want to test them with your guitar". If it still doesn't work, then you could ask the on-site tech about fixing it. If the guitar does work, then you'll need to hunt down a new rocksmith cable.

Since you said the guitar was sitting unused for a while, some components may have oxidized.

A fix you can try at home(but it may not work anyway) is buy a can of DeOxit and spray the pots, switch and jack; work the pots back&forth, move the switch thru all positions several times and plug/unplug a cable from the jack.You want the DeOxit to work its way onto the contact surfaces. You can watch vids on using DeOxit to get a better idea.

I've done this with a pup switch when I wasn't getting any signal from the neck pup and it fixed it right away. Hasn't given me problems since.

Hey everyone, need some help. I bought a Dean Vendetta when Rocksmith came out and tried it for a little but bounced off the game. It was before the remastered version was released so I'm guessing about 2012. I haven't touched it since so I just recently changed the strings and dusted it. When I connect the real tone cable, I don't get a signal in game to calibrate except for interference when I move the cable around. I tried it on steam with different USB ports 2.0 and 3.0, and with the disc on xbox 360 on two different consoles. the remastered version is only $7 on xbox one right now so I'm tempted to buy it to try but figure it will have the same results. Any suggestions to the problem with the guitar?

I hate to be “that guy”, but is the volume on your guitar turned up? Turn your volume and tone knobs all the way up (and down, just in case you turned the song way). If you have a pickup switch try selecting all the different positions. A bad pickup or switch could cause there to be no sound

No worries, i tried the knobs in full in both direction and tried the switch in all different positions with the knobs full in both directions. There is some rust where the cable plugs in but not that bad. I have a new real tone cable that I'm going to try and see if that works. My music stores are all still closed for a few more weeks so I have to wait until then.

 
Got an update. I unscrewed and removed the jack just to see and put it back. Suddenly started working again! So I guess I may have jostled something in it. I tried to calibrate it on steam remastered and I can see the sound coming from the onscreen speakers but is it normal to have to strum it really loud for it to register on-screen? Everyone was sleeping so I couldn't do it loud but is that normal or something still needs to be repaired on the guitar?

Not normal if you have the volume all the way up on the guitar and you have semi fresh strings on it.

Do you still have the same old strings on it or did you change them recently?

At least it's sorta working.

You might have a partially broken solder connection between your jack and wires. You could fiddle with it a little with the jack unscrewed and the cable plugged in and see if moving the wires around makes a difference. If so, a quick fix if you’ve got a soldering iron or know someone who does.

But also, it is normal to have to strum pretty hard during calibration. Outside of calibration, during tuning and during gameplay, you shouldn’t have to hit the strings hard. You should hear your guitar through your tv/stereo if it’s working too.

I just changed them but it was with a youtube video so who knows if I did it correctly. I'm going to work through it until music stores re-open and take it in if I'm not satisfied. Thanks for the help everyone!

Off topic a bit-

I ordered both of the Last of Us 2 Taylor guitars- and they sent me two of the 314ce. Not sure if they just made a mistake or substituted it for selling out? I’ll take it.
