Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

For anyone just starting out here is a nice package. All name brand stuff also. You may be able to get it all cheaper in peices if you really but to me it would seem like a big waste of effort. All you will need is strings and a guitar.
If anyone's already PMed to Musician's Friend could you let me know whether the gift certificates are applied to your account automatically or are you given coupon codes to use with the value of the 50% difference? The whole cannot be combined with other offers bit is confusing me on whether they mean at the time of price match or time of certificate redemption (or both). Just wanting to know to decide whether I should aim for MF or M123; wish I wasn't so busy/lazy to do this beforehand because I would've loved some DR neon strings and those wide leather straps on the cheap.

What's the tri-glide straps BTW? Also by Perri's Leathers?
The restrictions are put on there to keep them an authorized dealer with many brands that restrict sale prices on their products.

You can use them on sale items, price matches and more than one at a time. Read about people buying $800 guitars with just certificates.

Honestly unless you are buying some high dollar items or crazy discounts where you cand get more in certificates then you spend its easier just to go for the music123 discount.

Besides the certificate deal I think ends today. The rep wasn't quite sure if it was going to be extened or not.

Also they all expire on January 31 so if you get yours in two weeks from now you wont have a ton of time to decide what you want and sales will be a bit slim after the year end blow out.

So make sure you already know what you are going to do with them when you get them.

Lol...are their call reps available 24/7 to try right now? If not I dunno if I'd risk waiting, only takes two sales for the Yamaha bass to likely get sent back up in price given its current stock of 4.

The night crew shuts down 1am central. No idea when the open. I work nights so I go to sleep when everyone else is getting up.

A great deal on a super nice stand $17.99

www.buy.com/prod/hercules-gs414bn-guitar-stand-with-free-neck-cradle/234077565.html

These for just the stand are $50 at musiciansfriend for the stand alone. They were $25 on black Friday and this one is cheaper and comes with a neck rest to make string changing easier. I bought two on black Friday and another today. Strong thick steel and super sturdy. Also it holds the guitar by the neck. So it will hold any shap guitar including all those funky bc riches.
That's the one...I saw one around me too but passed on it because of the American Deluxe Strat that caught my attention first.
Yeah. Plays beautifully... WTH, Psybuster... You didn't buy both? I couldn't pass on this or the American Tele. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought of a return trip to get that Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40W Tube Amp for $327, too... Crazy deals. Just crazy.

See - this is what I did with the Fuzz Pedal and the straps and picks. I will get enough to get the Jag case I want... So I spent $80 and got the pedal, 3 straps and picks... but I get $130 of GCs that I will use to get my case :)

Believe me I thought a while about the Jag too but 1) I'm getting sick of black, 2) I don't have gift cards lying around from trades and still had the rest of my Christmas shopping to go, 3) the vintage frets and short scale didn't feel like what I wanted.

Funny how since I feel bad for only getting one guitar over the season. If I really needed them I would have gotten a bunch of those straps and like crazedracerguy and get a case for my prs. Otherwise I would just feel guilty buying stuff so I can get money back even though I don't need the original stuff.

crazedracerguy

What do you think of the jag compared to the stratocaster? I still really want to get a nice fender for that hendrix cobain sound. Just have not seen any great deals on them that I was going to be able to get in on. Tried my ass off for those bestbuy deals but was never able to get anything.

I'm always going to love my strat, so it's hard to compare. I don't see/feel a huge difference in the scale of the neck. The knobs and dials make some cool sounds possible. I just haven't played it enough to know how much I will like it or play it over my Strat.

I have another BB that, when I looked back at the stuff you posted, didn't have a Music Tech for hire, but there IS still a music store there. I have to go up there for work on Thursday, so I'm going to swing by there then. I don't know what they'll have. I'd still like to have that amp, so I'm just trying to justify it.

Got home a little late, MF/M123 phone lines are closed for Christmas, oh well, always next year if their number crunching doesn't reveal too much abuse of the PM policy lol

Best of luck to you I hope you strike gold again even if bank account doesn't.

Trying to decide between a fender and a semi-hollow guitar. Leaning towards fenders because I already have two humbucker guitars. The fender would be the biggest difference to what I already have and easiest to justify.

What would you think would be the best value for the money on a guality fender. Was thinking american standard but don't see them on sale much or any fenders really.

Bought another copy mostly for the DLC and second cable. I'll probably sell my first disc copy on eBay now. Man, even since I picked up guitar I just can't stop spending

I have the original Rocksmith but just bought the new version off Amazon. With the promo credit they gave me from a botched order it only cost me $10 out if pocket. That's better than $30 just for the bass dlc. Now to see what I can get back from the old version on Craigslist. Or maybe I should get generous and give it to a friend

Yeah I'm debating getting this to move to PC version and selling the original PS3 version or just waiting for a download only sale and keep the cable.
What would you think would be the best value for the money on a guality fender. Was thinking american standard but don't see them on sale much or any fenders really.
Best value? Standard Strat. Just check to make sure it's a Mexican. There is VERY little difference between my American Tele and my Mexican. Just don't get the Modern Player series. I don't care what anyone says, a Fender made in China isn't a Fender.

I seem to have lucked out with Music 123. I got a BUNCH of price quotes back from them last night. Some, the prices had gone up, so the quote sucked, but I got a quote for those DR strings for $2.57 a set and a quote for 100 Cellu-glo picks for $4 or so... I'll probably make use of those. 10.28 for 4 sets of strings will be nice :)

Is this the right one? Should I just stick with the sss style. My ibanez has split coil in the bridge and it sounds interesting.

I am still kicking myself for not getting an open box american deluxe from j&r for $672.

Those are it but the likelyhood of you finding some used ones on Craigslist for 200-300 is really good that it's not even really worth buying new IMO.

Yeah I got one for the orange ones. Friends thought they were cool. So I bought a bunch as gifts. Showed in stock a bit later I got another backorder notice. Then either I will get two shipments or they changed my order to 4 and backordered it. Would have liked more but I hope my friends will still like the few I was able to get.

Still have another one for 3.01 if you want another color. On backorder untill the 23rd though.

I'd agree with Psybuster... Used ones are pretty easy to find in REALLY good condition. If you're comfortable with dealing with Craigslisters, you can probably find a really nice deal.

That's an idea never really tried craigs list. Makes sence since it is a pretty popular guitar it would be easier to find. I live in a town of about 5,000 so I would have to travel to be able to even look at one. That's why I was super hopefull for the bestbuy deal. If I got to travel a couple hours would want it to be worth it.

Wish they had that daphne blue in the mix. Not the manliest color but its got that seafoan green vibe.

That and I got a good amount of certificates from musiciansfriend. Not in a rush to use them though.

I love the Sonic Blue with Mint Green pickguard color combo they have on the Blacktop too. That's probably the biggest issue with used aside from local availability: it could take a while to get a color you really want lol

If you have lots of certificates and nothing better to spend them on maybe getting a new one isn't such a bad idea. They'll have the 2008+ upgrades like improved shielding paint (I think...), free gig bag, and full size trem block you might not get going used. Don't forget the Fender instant discount ($50 for Mexican models IIRC) ends 12/31.

Thanks for that bit of into I was trying to figure out how long that lasts. Where did you find they come with a bag. I saw the upper models had a mail in offer for a hard case but didn't see one for the below $500.

Its a tough choice with the 10% off code they have going I could get the guitar for free with still some of the certificate left over.

Maybe save one and use it towards a pricematch on some noiseless pickups wich seems to be the major difference between the american standard and deluxe.

Hm maybe I just remember wrong but I seem to recall reading some announcement that they'd be adding bags to increase value for the Mexican models. Might have just been 2006 for the 60th anniversary.

Maybe that's it. Not a big deal either way. I already bought a fender deluxe gigbag for my schecter. So if I don't get a higher one that will be its home.

So I got my sister Rocksmith for :360: for X-mas and I read this warning inside the Rocksmith manual

We never recommend using HDMI as your primary sound source. If you are experiencing lag and are using HDMI for audio, try switching to component cables. Alternately, you can use an Xbox 360 Audio Adaptor Cable (show below) with an external audio source like speakers, headphones, stereo, or home theater system. If HDMI is your primary sound source, we recommend that you do not use your TV's speakers for sound.

I was just wondering if anybody was experiencing lag using just HDMI cables and If I should invest in a pair of component cables if this is true? Thanks fellas and ROCK ON!!

I have a quick question.

Is the "Bass" add-on content that is on the disc for "Rocksmith Guitar and Bass" or is it a code packaged with the game?

I have the original and wasn't sure if I bought the new one if I could just redeem a code and sell/trade the game disc or if the content was locked on the disc.

I have my XBox connected to my Pioneer receiver via HDMI and I haven't noticed any lag. It's weird that they note that if you use HDMI you should turn your TV speakers off. If you're using HDMI then why would you have them on to begin with?

Anywho, like others have mentioned there is an option in the menu to adjust for lag but I like I said I haven't seen it with this game or Guitar Hero and Rockband.

Yea I had lag issues when I just used HDMI cables. I use an optical out for sound to my receiver and it works a lot better. I never tried to just use the TV speakers, so I couldn't tell you if it lagged that way.

crazedracerguy

I know its now a snowflakes chance in hell. I would still be willing to spot you a $100 or so in case you were to find another one of those fender deals. You seem to have the magic touch in finding those fenders. I have the money to buy one new but can't justify $1300+ for a guitar. Heck I barely can justify the 3 I have. But this is one of the few things I have found that i get obsesive over instead of quickly getting bored and loosing interest in.

If you found one I promise you wont be stuck with it because I have always wanted a fender I just never see them on sale.

Got another question for people the people thatvl got a schecter special last year. Since my guitar seemed to have skipped the setup process. I was wondering what height you neck/bass pickup was set to. Pickup height is something I have yet to try out. My neck pickup is flush with the adjustment screw ie abou as low as it can go. With the bridge pickup being about 1-2 mm under the strings gives me a massively unballanced and bright sound.

Any idea you can give me about what schecter thinks is best would be greatly appreciated.

Sup everyone. Hope it was a good holiday break.

Since I didn't see it posted, Rocksmith (new version) can still be had for $39.99 thru Bestbuy as part of their 3-day sale. But Thursday is the last day so don't delay.

Plus Steam download (only) is $19.49, in the US anyway

and they also have the DLC songs on sale at 35% off. For example: 2.99 songs are down to $1.94

EDIT: American Musical's weekly deal is for the ESP-LTD worn strat @ $199.95

Funny, saw a post over on the Ubi forums about a steam sale for RS: game and DLC

Decided to DL the demo for the hell of it, expecting it to not work on my laptop. Well, surprised that it ran so smoothly and now debating a PC buy:whistle2:k. Of course, there's a chance the cake/demo is a lie

Zero HDMI is the best way to avoid lag. But there's always the possibility that your sis' setup would work fine. Really depends on the set. Some tv's do a good job minimizing lag and others are lousy.

Be prepared to make some tweaks and happy if you don't hafta do a thing

I thought I had missed out on the Akai pedal deals and was kicking myself. Well today I came away with a good haul. Three phone calls and two successful orders later I managed to get five pedals from music123 with the 123% price match (sort of).

My first order was for one each of the Tri-Mode Distortion, Fuzz, and Overdrive pedals, priced at music123 at $179 and $40 at akaipro.com. Price matched price should have been $8.02 ea. They wouldn't go for it but came back with an offer of $10.73 ea. I didn't argue and placed my order.

Next order was for the Deluxe Distortion and Phase Shift (love me some phase shift). The first time I called for this order they tried to tell me the 123% ended on the 23rd. I pointed out that it still shows on the site and does not indicate an end date. They say ok but then tell me Akai is out of stock of the deluxe distortion (they aren't) and he'd check to see if he could still do it and call back (instead if place me on hold? Weird) Anyway, on my next try they approved it and for the full discount. Deluxe Dist for $22.17 and Phase Shift for $26.42.

In total, $80.77 for 5 analog pedals. It took time and convincing to get these prices though. And they had to be reminded of the 123% price match on all three phone calls. But if your willing to put in the work, I think I got a pretty smokin deal

Crap, those are some awesome deals on the pedals and I'd love to get some, but I'm just way to busy with a new kid in the house to take the time to do that sort of price matching. If anyone can get some extras on any of those deals, I'd be willing to pay you a 25% service charge + shipping for distortion, fuzz, distortion or phase shift pedal. PM me if you're interested in helping out a fellow CAG. If not, oh well, I guess I'll save the money.

I'm thinking about buying a new bass. I have a really cheap Silvertone I bought about 8-9 years ago, looking for a slight upgrade. My wishlist is: Have a full 24 reachable frets, be any color other than solid black, and be a respectable brand name/quality while still being under $250. I found this Yamaha RBX170 on Amazon, looks like it's $153 after discount. What do you guys think? Should I pull the trigger, or wait for a better deal on a slightly better model? Thanks!

A couple AXL guitar deals thru Amazon:
AXL Headliner strat for $82.50

AXL Marquee strat for $89.94

You just missed out on a couple of bass deals on Amazon from 12/24. There were a couple schecter omens around 200. They also put the yamaha 374 model at about 195 + the extra 15% discount (making it 175)

But if ya go for the RBX170, check out Bestbuy. They were clearing out the silver and red models for 125-135 (varied by color). At this point, you'll hafta see if it's in stock locally. Or at least try to PM the Amazon price at someplace like Music123 to get it for a little less.

You could also research the BC Rich Eagle masterpiece bass. Hello music has'em for $268. And I there's a 25off coupon floating around: XMAS25.

EDIT: here's another bass from Musicians Friend; Schecter Raiden deluxe in silver for $199

And, from what I've played through them, they are some good sounding pedals. Really pretty amazing that these kinds of deals are out there on analog pedals. I have 2 overdrives, a distortion and a fuzz. Probably going to price match a deluxe distortion and a phase shifter today to get all the ones that are super cheap. I bought 3 through M123 and the fuzz through MF because they were still doing the 50% price match. So that one I spent $40, but am getting $70 in certificates. The only issue I had with any of the phone matches I did with M123 are they they took a LONG time on the phone. They were good about it, though.

Between the Best Buy guitar clearance, the Amazon straps and picks and these pedals, I'm set for a while on music stuff :) Until the next crazy deal comes along, anyway ;)

Wow am I glad the musciansfriend 150% price deal is over. Looking back at the totals I feel like a jerk now. Paid 193.39 for four pedals and got $265 in gift certificates. Then through some miss charges and finding even cheaper prices I got $58.36 back and an additional $30 in gift certificates.

In the end I spent $133.97 got 4 pedals and $295 in gift certificates. I gave away a few of my certificates and one of the pedals. So I feel a little better.

crazedracerguy

Would you say the best strat is the SSS style? I got three humbuckers guitars and to single coil on my ibanez I really weak. So I figured an all single coil stratocaster would be the way to go.

Also wich would you choose
$41 fendard standard strat +40 for noiseless pickups alo new

OR

An american standard for $325

Trying to figure out what to get and other than a schecter bass and gibson nighthawk or some random semi hollow the strat is the only thing I really want. None of the colors really do it for me so would probably get Olympic white or charcoal frost.

By chance have you seen a charcoal frost metalic. The dean I had was metalic black but really just had little sparkles in it that really did not like. If the fender is like that I would definetly go with the white. I just wished they had seafoan green sonic blue or daphne blue in them other than the squires.

Yeah. I only did $80 of stuff, but I got $135 in GCs, which will all but cover the cost of my SKB case for the Jaguar! Nice! I bet they don't do that next year ;)

I like the SSS configuration. That's what mine is. As far as pickups, I'm kind of a traditionalist. I like SS in strat and lipstick and hb in a tele.

Are those your costs after GCs? If it only cost me $325, I'd go American.
TBH, noiseless pickups are taking away part of the allure of a Strat. It's supposed to be noisy. Unless you're Eric Johnson or something.

I'd want that Charcoal Frost Metallic. My Tele is Agave Blue Metallic. I like the little bit of metallic flake in the paint. I will always go for the weird color if given the chance. Unless you find a black American Tele for $475, then I was fine with black :) I just like to stick out, I guess.
