Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Mine was a little different because of the "metal" aspect. It feels great to play, but the XJ frets throw me off. I'd probably feel better on it if I lifted it up, but a "metal" guitar shouldn't have to sit at your chest

It's a great guitar, though. Really smooth. Inlays are perfect, even though they're huge, you can't feel them.

Don't remember if it popped up in my BB searches. But I really gotta put a lid on it or sell off a bunch of stuff. It's getting mickey-fickey crazy.

Spent last night on bass only. Man, my fingers are in pain today
Haven't felt this in a looong time.:lol: But it's a nice change of pace.

So far, I've only done plucking and the occasional picking song. But in one night I ranked up to level 4. leveled a bunch of songs over 90k and unlocked a couple of the secret songs.

Bought a Musician's Gear Deluxe hard shell bass case with the LivingSocial promo because I couldn't find anything else I wanted on the last day. Protection seems okay (it's a bit longer than you'd expect though), and like some reviews mentioned there is definitely some funky smell coming from it, almost like gasoline. Overall opinion: Not worth the $55-60 typical asking price but I basically got it for less than half that so I don't mind so much.

RS updates are slim. The PC version is still $38 thru Amazon & that's it. Most other places have the console versions at 60 for the new version. The old version is getting a bit harder to find at those clearance prices.

For me, I spent another night on bass and had a more normal experience. Played thru 3 events and only ranked up one level. But I did clear most songs at 90k and unlocked 2 more secret songs
But man, my fingers are toast. Started getting HO/PO's, bends, and some songs kinda force you to stretch your fingers out across 4 frets (much harder to do on bass).

If you have any troubles on guitar, try doing it on bass. It's like weight training for guitar:lol:

Wasn't gonna do a big spending spree so looked at stuff in the 300< range.
Saw plenty of stuff but nothing that made me "hafta have" stupid. Got a nice deal of 250 for the bass and official hof case. Bonus in that the shop had it set-up well to play so it was ready to go outta the box
Now to decide what kinda of strings to put on: flip-flopping between halfrounds and flats, but leaning towards halfs

Yeah, I've bought a couple of musicians gear cases and both had that smell. One worse than the other.
1st one was the basic black case for an electric guitar and that one really stunk. Left it out in the backyard to air out for a few days and it still didn't go away for a while longer.
2nd one was the tweed and that one had the smell, but it went away in a day. Plus this case was sooo much better quality than the black. Think it was 55 on a weekly deal

As far as the guitar cases go, the tweed was a better design and better build.

It's hard to tell from the pics but the lid on the black case is more like a cap which overlaps the bottom half. Where the tweed is a clamshell design so both halfs line up flush. Tweed had squared off corners vs the black with rounded corners. Just different designs

The tweed was all around more solid vs the black that had alot of flex and wobble. Of course, don't know if this translates to the bass cases. And the black case is still fine at a low enough price

I have that same guitar and love it. Playing it right now actually. I traded an ESP EC-400 for it and do not regret it!!!

I'm a metal guy, so the stock pickups weren't as hot as I like. A guy in Denmark actually paid me $155 for the stock pickups. I was able to score the Seymour Duncan 59 neck and Custom 5 bridge for it. Sounds really good. I put it right up there with my Gibson Les Paul Studio.

Got my 245 just to have something different. Really liking the wide fat neck and short scale makes feel really nice in the hand.

Nice deal on the pickups that's for sure. Pickups are something I haven't experimented with at all yet. Mainly because I just don't know what the differences would be.

You don't know of any site that gives a good rundown of different pickups? Preferably with sound clips using the same guitar.

Hm if that's really the difference between them I think I would've paid the $15 dollar difference to get the tweed if I could turn back time, but at this point it can't possibly be worth paying the return shipping just to change it out. It's got 4 latches VS the black's 3 too now that I look at the pictures. Oh well. FWIW the black bass case has the same overlapping top half that you mentioned, so I wouldn't be surprised if the guitar and bass versions are just differently sized clones of each other in every respect.

To you guys that have been unlocking the secret songs via bass, does that unlock it for guitar as well? I'm getting to a point where it's starting to seem impossible to unlock the rest. And I tried resetting to the lowest level through the menu, but the requirements to perform events seemed to stay just as high.

If starting on bass will work ill give it a try that way. Otherwise I think I may delete my data but I hate to have to do that

Don't erase you save. Just create a new user on your system. If you are just trying to unlock more songs. At least that is what I did on my ps3 I assume you can make multiple users on a xbox as well.

I did it that way and the game decided to be funny and make my encore song the secret song I just unlocked in my last set. I sure didn't find it funny as I was flying untill I hit that brick wall and failed to get my double encore. Really ticked me because I had not leveled it up at all so I had no chance to get a high score.

Yeah, it's suppose to unlock for use in either bass or guitar. Exception being songs like Star Spangle Banner,which don't have a bass track. But did read about a glitch where secret songs unlocked on guitar weren't showing up on the bass side BUT secret songs unlocked on bass WERE showing up fine in both modes

For me, all the secret songs I had unlocked thru bass, popped up last night on the guitar side as soon as a new event loaded up.

And personal choice on wiping out your progress to start new. I've put in enough time now that I'd be fine starting from scratch again. It'd be like a new challenge to see how much I've improved. And thinking about it, it'd let me pick and choose which songs I WANT mastered so only those pop up as encores

Man, I wish they'd give us the option of creating&saving custom set lists

But if I created a new user & unlocked songs under that profile, wouldn't they only be available to that new profile? Or would they indeed be unlocked to every user no matter who unlocks them?

I'd highly recommend picking up some jazz III picks. People like John Petrucci and Alexhi Laiho swear by them (as do I)

They are a very hard, small, sharp pick. It really helps to work on your picking dynamics and really gives you a good feel of the strings.

I've been using them for 5 years and have no desire to use anything else ever again.

Wish I got in on those Fender barstools now because trying to play with an office chair on PC is not very practical. I've been using some heavy picks I had from my early months of guitar playing. At the time, I couldn't stand thin or medium picks. Now, only use thin

Have a Stubby 2.0mm, which is a hard, see-thru purple pick. It has an indentation/divot for your thumb
Then, there's a Gator grip 1.5mm pick. Has a texture to keep it from moving around.

Think my bass may have heavy-gauge strings and find the Stubby pick a better fit.

I got the 2" Italian Suede ones... It's OK. If they hadn't been $10 (or less ), I may not have been very happy. As it is, they're OK. I've been using one with the Strat and it's pretty comfortable. I had been using a standard Fender strap and didn't mind it.

Of course, along with the 20 or so sets of strings that I've amassed, I also somehow have ended up with about a dozen different straps... Most of 'em just stay in one of those plastic boxes that all my stuff is in.

Gotta pick up a new set of Dunlop Strap Loks this week to put on my '60's Strat. It's nice to use the same locks on all my guitars. Makes it easy just to swap the strap and go.

Yeah. I figured out that for what I would have paid for just the American Tele, I ended up with an American Tele, MIJ Jaguar and a '60's Classic Strat... Not a bad deal. It has helped that my guitar playing is good enough and fun enough that I have sold every other game except RS and COD:BO2. At this point, I'mjust waiting for RE6 to hit $10 or 20 and Bandfuse - which will be a day 1 purchase.

Well the seymourduncan website has clips of all their pickups and also has recommendations for your guitar depending on genre you are playing and gutiar materials.

Nice fender family tree call me green with envy. I really hope bandfuse does well. I am sure for the experienced player its great. The interface looks confusing to new people. For all the money they put into it I still see it failing hard. People with skills are going to turn their noses up at it and most new people got their fix with rocksmith. That or learned they don't get good right away and give up.

Don't get me wrong I want it to be good and sell great. At the moment I would have to buy a xbox to play it. My ps3 is now a blueray player/ Rocksmith player so that would be a waste.

The Perri's straps I got had the extra padding, so I've been using that with my bass. So really comfortable, but it does slide around some on my shoulder (nothing major though).
Still undecided on the durability since I don't feel the strap-ends are reinforced properly.

The first one today actually showed up in the web clearance listings of the store that I bought my last 2 Fenders from (but in video games, which I had overlooked before last week). I went up there and asked the guy if they had one. At first, he said no, but I badgered him into looking for it. It ended up being up on a shelf where all the boxed guitars were. That's where the money for my American Tele came from, mostly. To me, it always comes down to - would you rather learn a handful of songs in Rock Band in pro mode on this crappy guitar or would you rather sell it and buy a REALLY NICE guitar with the funds? I can never get over the hump of actually opening it and playing it when I know it'll get me a nice new guitar - effectively for $120.

Welcome to my world. I REALLY would love to try the Pro Mode... There are a few songs, in fact, that are at the very top of my list of songs to learn... But if you open it, you lose $100 off the top. And then the guitar (effectively) cost you $220, which I would not have paid for it... Add to that that there is at least one good deal remaining on a Fender guitar round here and there is NO chance that I'm opening one of these babies up.

It stands for Retek Store System. It's accessible from the Employee Tool Kit and (to my knowledge) all employees have access. But yeah, it's basically their inventory. And they can check all other stores in and around the district for stock too. It's not perfect, but it's as good a resource as we have to work with.

I know that guitar isn't so great but I am really eager to try some new songs but the dlc has little that interests me. That and it would be so sweet to own a actual fender stratocaster guitar.

On a playing note. Does anyone find it hard to play looking at your hands?

I look at the fretboard when I am trying to memorize a new rift or scale. Once I memorize it and just stare off into space it becomes easy. Then I miss a note and look at my hand to make sure I am pressing the right frets. Automatically my hand goes retarded. I am guessing my fingers know where to go. Then while I look I think they should be positined differently. Then my fingers try to go where they are suposed to go my eyes tell them differently and I f up with fret buzz and putting my fingers on wrong strings or tripping them on a sting.

Very frustrating and strange. Usually watching what your doing helps you do it better. Must be that muscle memory thing. Sad to think my fingers are smarter than me at playing guitar.

Once, I just called the store and shot the shit with the guy to figure out what they had (Jaguar). The next time, I called the other store and talked to the guy about what they had. The guitar that I bought, he told me about (It was not on the web) (Amer. Tele). The last one, it was on the web clearance, but I figured it was wrong. He had to search for it when I got there (60's tele).

If you know what stores have guitars, the sales people are the best resource. They should be able to tell you what the good deals are.

Of course, there is one other store that I haven't gone to and every time I call them, they're like monkeys ing a football. They literally did not know what a Fender was when I called last time - and this was the guy working the music store. No wonder BB is going out of business.
