Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

So I run the XBL thread but know next to nothing about Rocksmith.  Seems to be 3-5 markdowns every week for the last few weeks.  Is this some type of Deal of the Week program that Rocksmith runs, or is this a temporary promo?  

Just wondering so I can better label the section in my XBL thread.  Thanks.

It seems like they're going to keep this sale running until rocksmith 2014 is out, but they've been doing a pretty lousy job promoting it.

Yup, kitlink nailed it. It's a summer sale on DLC: xbox is getting a few songs each week, steam just ended a sale on all DLC and PS3 just started up their DLC sale.

The knobs on the fenders look a bit nicer. I also have run into the problem of my Dean Vendetta frets scratching my fingers while sliding around. Part of it is good form I suppose. If I'm doing a good job of curling my fingers around, I don't run into as much problems.

The Dean is nice. It holds tune relatively well. Construction is good. The Fender's seems like my next step up. I've gone from 0 knowledge about guitar to really being able to get around, bar chords, chords, theory, playing, having fun. 

Thoughts on Fenders?

I'm sure some Fender Fanboy will chime in (cough... Crazedracer...cough) ;).

I have a guitar that had sharp frets too. But the problem went away when the wood swelled up a bit with a climate change.
Sounds like you're still have the problem though. Try to google sharp frets and you can decide if you wanna try and fix it or have a pro do it.

There is nothing like a Fender. I got bit by the Fender bug early and it's all I'll own now.

You'd be better served, instead of the Affinity, waiting and picking up a standard Squier ($229) or even one of the vintage modified Squiers ($249). The workmanship into those is quite a bit greater. Otherwise, it's not much of a step up from your Dean. That Dean is a solid axe for beginning.

So I figured I was done with Best Buy Music clearances... I had pretty much grabbed everything I wanted. Then again, they seem to still be getting a little stock (or still finding stuff in the back room). This was out on Friday when I ran up to the store, but they had no cases and I didn't have one there. It had never been out before. So I went back today...

Epiphone Les Paul Ultra III in Antique Cherry Burst...

The cool thing about this axe is the pickups. It has 2 1/4" outs - one regular and one that comes off of a magnetic pickup - which allows you to output it just like an acoustic. There is a little switch on one of the knobs that allows you to set how the guitar outputs - whether a mix of the regular pickups or through that magnetic pickup. It also has a USB jack to go straight out to a computer for recording. The bridge pickup has electronic tuner in it - and when you engage the tuner, the guitar silences the output so you can tune live.

Anyway - it sells for $749 everywhere. It had a price tag of $337 on clearance. When I went in today, the woman that discounted a bunch of my stuff last week was working and she remembered me, so she gave me a big hug when she walked in and asked what I was buying. she ended up discounting it to $203... Yes, $203...

My boss was on the phone with me when I was finishing up the sale and he was laughing about me talking trash to the lady and getting a big hug before I left. He said I had the schmooze turned to high.

They still had 4 or 5 SGs from 169 to 249 (+ all music stuff has an extra 20% off + whatever you could negotiate from the salesperson), 3 Melody Maker Gibsons (white SG, Explorer and Flying V) for $269, Fender Blacktop bass for 249, a few other Les Pauls, a Hagstrom Ultra Swede in Spalted Maple for 249, a BUNCH of HD300s, HD400 and M13 stomp box modelers from Line 6 for around half off retail, still a bunch of cheaper amps, BUNCHES of pedals - line6 tonecores, Boss, MXR and Electro Harmonix pedals... There was still plenty left to tempt me, but the LP Ultra III caught my eye and brought me back the second day...

I could easily drop another grand if I had it lying around, but I truly have to stay away from there.

The Black Keys stuff is gonna be most accessible.

They have their tricky parts but not too crazy fast or complex

Best way to tell if you'll like a song is to watch a playthru of the song

Plenty of vids showing the full track and you'll get a good idea if want to tackle it.

Of course you could buy it all. Even stuff you don't like can help you improve as a player.

Gets ya outta yer comfort zone :)

I ended up buying all of the DLC sales as well. Who knows if and when these specific songs would go on sale again.

This week is Blink and 3DD... Blink is fairly simple and fun to play - just some fingerpicked stuff in What's My Age Again that's a little hard for a beginner...

3DD is a little more challenging. Lots of arpeggios (which, for me, are the hardest things to get down). Loser is not too bad - and a cool song.

Post Best Buy, all the sales look so... pedestrian. :( I'll be spoiled for a long time...

I'm still tossing around picking up an M13 Stompbox Modeler for $200. Or maybe some more Boss and Electro Harmonix pedals... Or maybe... :) Yeah, I'm gonna make a ride tomorrow morning, just for the heck of it.

 
Snagged a Line6 M13 Stompbox modeler for $175 today. Not bad for a $500 piece of steel... There were still quite a few Schecters and Les Pauls and SGs there... Still bunches of nice pedals, including multiple HD400 and HD300 Line 6 units.

Rocksmith is on sale at the Microsoft store right now for $14.99. Appears to be the original. But for those looking for additional cables its probably the cheapest way to go. And if you don't already have the game but were interested in the 2014 version, it might be worth investing in this in case they implement some sort of track migration like they did in rock band games. In that case the bass ad-on wouldn't matter anyway

Can't recommend "Gone Away" highly enough. Just a good sounding song and some cool little riffs that are fun to play. Ended up being my favorite song in the game.

I like that iPad mount. I've been wanting an iPad, mostly for music applications. I have some pretty neat apps on my phone that I don't use at all just because its so small and is too much of a pain in the butt. Plus it'd be great for pulling up tab. I've pictured having a mount like that. I'll definitely be keeping that in mind for the day I come by enough money to get me an iPad

The Queen dlc is fantastic, except for maybe Bohemean Rhapsody. Don't get me wrong, I love that song. But it really sucks standing around like an idiot for the first three minutes or so before the guitar part comes in. Especially frustrating when you keep failing by just a little bit and you have to start the whole process over (and over)
 
Damn, they had to go and release all of those at once.  Thought they'd only do Queen this week.

Only have enough credit for 5 songs.  

Was hoping to see a store clear out their stock of point cards for ones with the new currency version (cough... target, cough).

Gonna hafta be less of a cheapass and just buy a card at retail prices
