Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Yeah the tuning is a pain in the ass. One of my favorite modes in the game is nonstop play because it's almost like playing a gig. You get to set up the songs you want and go through them. It's a lot of fun to play, however I usually find myself sticking to one tuning throughout the set. If I'm doing Drop D, I'll only put in songs with Drop D tuning, or with Open E, and so on. It's a little bit of a hassle having to retune after each song :whistle2:?

 
Just froze again. game is really good, but that's been 4 freezes in my first day with it. I see there are others complaining if this too.

Also what would you guy guys opinion on this Duo-Sonic versus this starter set? This comes with an amp and some other goodies and the reviews seem decent?

Does anyone own 2014 for the PC?  I was thinking about it with the sale and the gamers discount at BB, but when looking at reviews on amazon about a third of reviews are one star reviews saying there are problems loading/crashing with no help from support.

I just tried to add the duo-sonic and game to my cart and it only took $50 off the guitar. I had the impression it would be $80 off since the game is already discounted for everyone without making a bundle. I was gonna bite on the squire for $100. Considering pretty much everything I own is higher end, I actually feel slightly relieved. I would have liked to see how this stacks up against my mim fender strat though.
 
Picked up 2014 last night and accidentally stayed up until 12:30 or so playing. An improvement over the first game for sure. Tuning was a little anoying until I figured out to keep picking the string. Also my guitar has 4 strings on one side and 2 on the other and rocksmith doesnt believe in headstocks like that so sometimes I am turning the wrong string on accident and feel more stupid than usual.

Riff repeater wore me out before I got to 100% and I had to back out. I havent built up a lot of stamina and my fretting hand gets tired and stops working right. I"ll be going along fine and its progressing then its just like my hand just quits and I start missing notes and then cant seem to catch up or fret anything right anymore. Thats when I know its time to take a break or quit for the day I guess. Anyone else new to guitar have the same kind of issue?

Keep posting the deals on guitars and stuff for black friday. I'm hoping to help my friend get a guitar so he can start rocksmith. I had him over and we did coop bass and guitar and it was lots of fun.

I didnt even try bass with 2014 yet...Can you switch back and forth as easily as in the previous game?

 
This best buy sale/combo with $$ off a guitar deal is amazing.  I got the game for xbox and the Gibson "Maestro" guitar total of $89 I think.  I have unlocked so that took another 20% off the game.  Anyway going from zero anything to the game with a guitar (and amp, comes with a little amp) is great.  Yes the game on sale absolutely came with the cable.  The package is clear even so you can see and verify it before purchase. 

I am the last person to ask about guitars since this is my first, but it seems ok.  I managed to get it in tune and it works fine with the game.  However my finger feels like someone beat the crap out of it with a meat tenderizer so I don't know how much I can play today.  My wife is like 5'5" and she could play it so I would imagine a teenager would be fine.

Even at $50 the whole thing is a great deal.  Like many here I "always" wanted to play guitar, no idea how to start.  Now we're underway for under a hundred bucks.

The list of eligible guitars clearly says save 80 on the guitar.  The main splash page says the same.  But you add the guitar and it only takes off 50.

You should be able call c/s and get them to honor the 80 discount on just the guitar.  But, yeah, then you gotta deal with c/s :roll:

I'm pretty sure they're counting the $30 discount on the game as part of the $80.  It's $50 off a guitar plus $30 off the game, $80 total.  It would be awesome, of course, if it actually was just $80 off the guitar.

But yes, those of you who have posted great deals in the past, please keep sharing over Black Friday week.

I tried to get it with the PC version, but it says "Not available for shipping" and no stores seem to have it available for pickup either. FAIL BBY!

The $80 vs $50 thing is odd too. If you read the whole thing, the upper part says save $80 on a guitar, but down further in the text, it says $50. And, as many have seen already, the cart only takes off $50. Also note that Marketplace guitars are excluded from the deal. Also the one I wanted. So I guess Amazon gets the cash for this one.

Which Gibson Maestro did you get? I checked all the ones on the BB site but I can't seem to get any that come up with the discount. That sounds like a great deal for a beginner (which I am) so I'd like to duplicate your efforts. Can you provide details?

I've tried several times, and I cannot get any discount to come off of that one. I do see it listed in the "approved guitars" (or whatever it's called) list. Cleared my cart and closed web browser, etc several times - and with that guitar and RS (PS3) in my cart, the price never changes. Odd. Thanks for the info though.

Edit: Tried the 360 version also to match what you did exactly and still no go. I'm GCU also, so the pricing should be exactly the same aside from tax. Good deal for you!

Maybe that's what they intended, but that's not what the site says.

Specifically states 80 off the guitar. I take that to mean 80 off the guitar's price; the game being on sale is just a bonus.

Problem is, you're gonna hafta deal with their c/s to get them to honor the deal.

Looks like they nerfed that guitar as an option. They did the same thing a few weeks back on the blue model.

Oh no crap.  I swear this worked just yesterday when I bough it.  But I am trying it now and the Maestro shows at $99 not $49.  That sucks though yeah - I'm glad I did this yesterday then.

I figured I would call to ask as it appeared that this deal was dead (with that Gibson guitar anyway). Spoke with a very nice CSR who adjusted the price of the guitar to knock off the $80. So, I got RS, with cable, and the guitar for $63.XX (including tax). I'm sure someone will fix this soon, but thought others may want to try. YMMV - give it a shot!

My approach was to be nice, polite, and patient. I simply explained what I was trying to do, and what was happening. It worked out well, and hopefully others can get in on this too.

 
Finally, finally jumped on a Rocksmith game with the Best Buy deal from Sunday. Time to dust off the Explorer. Probably time for some new strings anyway.

Probably won't actually have much time to play it until around Christmas, but looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, I got them to acknowledge there was an issue with it not taking $50 off the guitar that is on sale, but no help getting it ordered and they claimed the $80 included the sale price of Rocksmith. Since i'm a newbie and may find I 'm not suited to guitar at all, I'm not sure I want to even invest $100. $6x,xx was a no-brainer. They said they would get it fixed, but sale might be over before then.

It's a pretty decent deal on the gibson lpj, though I'm relatively certain I've seen them about $500 on sale on numerous occasions.
 
Playing on 360. Just like other people i saw talking about it, it's inconsistent. I could play for 15 minutes and freeze, or play for 2 hours and play nothing. I've read about people losing their saves if it locks up during a autosave. Hopefully they can take care of it.

 
Here's a nice "review" of RS 2014. Its one journalists' chronicle of the RS "60 day challenge" which states that you can learn guitar from scratch in 60 days by playing the game one hour a day. Kinda reminds me of the P90x workout marketing. As of today he's on day 19 and I enjoyed reading it and will try to remember to check back as he adds more posts. May especially be a good read for those on the fence, as he talks pretty in depth about his experiences and his progression and relates it on a timeline of both days and hours played. Its much more comprehensive than one of us trying to relate our thoughts in a single post

Sort of an alternate bare-bones version of their bare-bones model (studios). I think its a good deal, if you like the looks.

These partially motivated me last year to get my two Gibsons (Firebird trib., LP 60s trib.).

Still kick myself for not being able to pull it together for one of those LP jr @ 500. Priorities man... had to get the firebird first :)

Wow, 360 has been the most stable of all the versions. Wonder if it's a sign that your system is starting to give.

That's what happened to my '06 unit for several months before it RR'd in '09.

I would try clearing the cache next time you fire up the system. And if you haven't done it yet, install the game. Good luck.

Installed it right when I got it. Haven't had any issues with grand theft auto or nhl 14, or anything else really. My freezes kind of fall in line with the people on the rocksmith forums. I can play for 2 hours and be fine, or it could freeze 5 minutes in. I'll learn to deal with it, and hope a patch becomes available.

Anyway, just knocked out the achievement for getting a platinum on hard difficulty. I like that palm mutes are now registered much more consistently in this game. Not bad for the 2nd day with the game:

Wow, 360 has been the most stable of all the versions. Wonder if it's a sign that your system is starting to give.

I think you're right about that. My 360 started freezing up occasionally in the weeks leading up to its RRoD. It happened in Rocksmith 2014 once or twice too, and then it just happened. Other than that the game ran fine for me and pretty smoothly. I think it's an issue with the Xbox itself.

 
Best Buy price has jumped back up to 79.99. Amazon is still 49.99 for now, but gotta figure they'll also increase too shortly, now that there is no sale price to match. If you're on the fence at this price, now is the time.

Thinking of getting a barstool to sit on while playing. Any recommendations that would work best over the long run? I see Fender and Gibson ones at 24" and 30" on amazon. Which brand and which size should a 6' 175lb guy get?

I think radiohead's bodysnatchers was originally a preorder bonus for the original right? It went up for sale at some point but not sure how long it took

Offtopic, but does anyone know of or recommend a good karaoke machine for kids? Don't want to buy something that sucks or has a short life, which most on the market seem to suffer from.

It's a more complete model, with the only thing holding it back being the finish. It's a love it or hate it sorta look.

They're fine. But I would recommend you think about wall hangers.
I started with a floor stand and the damn thing was always in the way. Ditched it and went with wall hangers.

Just make sure you lock it into a wall stud and you'll have no worries.
