Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Well... The bad news is that my fantasy team lost today - and it was a $480 winners purse...

The good news is that my $45 SKB Footnote pedalboard actually shipped out this weekend from Guitar Center. I never said anything about it on here because, when I ordered it, it immediately sent me a backorder notice, so I didn't figure they would actually send the orders out. I was wrong. :)

Pretty cool board - it has a 5W amp and speaker built in the board so you can power all your pedals and wire them how you want to and use it like a small combo amp. Or as a little stage monitor. Or you can run the signal out and power an 8 ohm cab... Pretty versatile board.
What's the model numbe of the pedal board?

Amazon and BestBuy are still holding at $50 for Rocksmith 2014.

But if you have Gamestop credit, wait 'til after Christmas. They'll have for $50 in their After-Christmas sale

Congrats. I've come close to buying it a couple of times. Most recently when Sweetwater had'em for 50.

Was never sure but does it come with the cables to power the individual pedals? What about patch cables?

Anyway, I got my Squire Jag bass last week and am loving it. It' so much fun. I've played guitar for 10 years and it wasn't that much of a jump
Congrats. I've only been at it for two years and thought the same thing when I started bass. Guitar helped reduce the learning curve by a mile.

Though it's still more of side diversion for me. Just something to clear my head when I get stuck on the guitar side.

How is this available for $5 at Sam's?
That's last year's version of the game. Just hafta to find a Sam's that still has copies in stock. If they do, most likely it got clearanced down to $5

What's the model numbe of the pedal board?
Think this is the same model

Yeah - that's the one. It has all the power cables, but I don't think the patch cables (picked up a bunch of those at BB MI Closing for 99 cents).

I'm excited to try it out. Especially since I'm still waiting to play with these:

So I bought 2014 for my dad for x-mas so I have free access to the tone cable, but I am itching to learn guitar too so I have a question.

I could get the original for $7.50 or I can spend $40 for 2014. For a beginner guitar player (no experience whatsoever), is the extra $32.50 worth it to buy Rocksmith 2014 on PC? Or will I be comfortable with the original for now and then transfer over to 2014 later on. I would rather buy the original for now but if there is a huge advantage with 2014 I will consider spending the cash.

I don't know... RS was great. RS 2014 has some pretty amazing upgrades - the lessons are wonderful (and helpful), the riff repeater options are much nicer, the arcade games are FAR better... 2014 is literally better in every way. Now that I think about it that way, it's pretty much worth it to get 2014.

So does that make me an asshole for giving my friend my old copy of RS+Bass for Christmas? :D

Where's the cheapest place to get a copy of the first game for 360? I just bought 2014, and I heard you can import all the songs from the first game.

I don't have a Sam's Club membership, so that deal is out.

I have a Best Buy edition, sealed game only, no cardboard box (I only bought it for the cable and fret labels). $8 shipped and it's yours. ;)

I would go for 2014 simply because it is a lot faster and more fluid. The old game was great and an amazing leap of technology for its time, but it suffers from some downsides such as clunky menus, long load times, design flaws, sound lag, etc. Simply navigating the menus takes forever. 2014's menus and setup are so clean and simple and intuitive that it makes it that much easier to hop into a session and play. It also has improved note charts that are more accurate and easier to play than before.

Keep in mind that you can always import the original's songs onto the new one (minus about 5 tracks or so, due to licensing). So is it worth the extra 30 bucks? I think so. I paid 60 bucks for my copy on day 1, and it was the "no cable included" version.

I say go with whichever version is cheaper right now and plan on getting the other version when it goes on sale.

Everyone's pretty much covered the main differences between the two.

But let me put it this way;  OG Rocksmith is like a pickup truck and Rocksmith 2014 is like a sports car.

They'll both get you where you wanna go.  But the sports car will be a more enjoyable experience ;)

You can't go wrong with either.  If anything, you'll appreciate the improvements in RS2014 even more by starting with the OG Rocksmith.

to enjoy this game.. I need a guitar with plug-in and that's expensive :/
Depends on what you mean by expensive. Guitars that work VERY well in RS and are fine starter guitars can be had for $60-$150. Most run around $100. That's not much more than what you spend on a new game or two - and yet, I have somewhere around 800 hours into this game and RS1. That's a lot of value for a couple of hundred bucks.

Alright I'm new to rocksmith, just played it at a friends house. What's my best option? I have a 360, PC and ps3. I've already got a guitar. I just need the cable and game.

Does the cable work on all versions? Like if I buy the 360 version can I use it on the pc version next year?

Does DLC work like in rock band where it carries on to the next one? Or is DLC version specific?

I've got an old acoustic with pickups, will it work?

I also have a rock band 3 pro Mustang midi guitar. Can I make this work with the game?

Is there multiplayer in the game?

I've got something like $50 in my xbox account so I'm leaning that way since I could get some dlc.

The cable is universal and will work with any version of the game and future games. It can even work with programs like GarageBand and other music software. As for guitars, any guitar that can be plugged in can work, even acoustic. I don't know about the midi guitar though, but if you get the game you could try it out and see for yourself.

Also, some of the DLC in this game is very good, so I second the Xbox option.

Awesome, thanks for the help! I just received a $20 gift card from amazon for a delayed delivery as well, so I think I'll pick this up tomorrow. Can't wait!

It turns out my pickups are passive (no battery) and doesn't work with the game. Any way I can make it work for cheap or should I just pickup a $100 guitar?

Acoustic or electric? If the latter there's a ton of passive guitars out there that don't have any issue. Acoustic with a piezo pickup you might not be so lucky.

Couple of guitar deals to choose from on Amazon.

Passive pickups aren't the problem. Most of my guitars have passive pups and they all work, though some require that I have the volume turned all the way up on the guitar (specifically if I'm on the neck pup only).

And that'd be my cheap-fix recommendation to you... if your a/e guitar has any volume control on it, make sure it's maxed out.

BTW, does your guitar have steel or nylon strings?

When we plugged it in it was still making a staticy noise. It's an old guitar, but still in good condition. We messed around with the volume, but it didn't do anything. I'm not sure on the strings.

Bought my 2nd guitar with xmas cash...got the john 5 MIM telecaster (the old twisted tele version not the 3 humbucker one) on ebay for a about half retail because of a chip in the finish. Should be here soon :)

It should be lighter than the schecter ultracure eventhough its supposed to be heavy. That ultracure is so big I cant even sit down to play it comfortably, but I still love it.

Just got my SKB Footnote. Holy shit, the box is huge. May get it out tonight and slap some pedals on it. I really need to start playing outside of Rocksmith more. I know my playing is really dirty because I only play in RS and the backing track masks my mistakes. If Bandfuse was worth a shit, I could use that, but the interface sucks SO bad.

Who am I kidding? I'll be right back in RS tonight. :) Maybe I'll just do a little on the HD500 tonight - then I don't have to set anything new up.

Hopefully, you don't have any serious problems with it. You may hafta decide if you want to put any money into getting the guitar into playing shape.

If it was me, I'd put the money towards any electric guitar first. Then again, I've got problems when it comes to guitars :whistle2: . This game has been the best-worst thing to happen to me

On the strings, just take a quick look next time. Steel strings are all metal. Nylon look like plastic (think weed trimmer line).

Pretty sure I remember complaints about a/e guitars designed for nylon strings way back when the game first launched. The game has a hard time recognizing the sound output from those pickups & string combos.

Congrats

BASS DLC package for RS 1 is currently $9.99
Cool addition if you're using the first version of the game (the one released in 2011)

But a bit of advice, save your money if you plan on getting Rocksmith 2014.

You can import all the songs from the OG disc into the new game for $10 and you'll get access to the bass tracks anyway.

The Bass DLC was meant for all those original game discs.

Broke down and bought Rocksmith 2014 for PC. I got the game+cable version for $50 off Amazon although it's oos so who knows when it will be here but I used a GC so it was free.

I own an Epiphone Les Paul (hand me down from my dad), so I will be good to go.

I always wanted to play guitar but the cost for lessions always made me think twice. With Rocksmith I should be ok to at least learn.

Ouch. Sticker shock from DLC prices. I'm used to Rock Band. Bought the Cure and Radiohead packs and that's plenty for now. Hopefully sales will pop up now and then, plenty of other songs I want to buy.

Just started the game today. Played guitar on and off for about 15 years, never really getting beyond just OK at the most basic level. I'm not terrible but this game could probably do me a lot of good. Nice to have a reason to break out the Explorer again.

Are the sub $200 guitar bundles at bestbuy really that bad?

I work at the stores, so picking a guitar up at Bestbuy is super convenient, however, if I can get a much better guitar between $100-$200 online, than I do'nt mind waiting.

The problem with those guitars is consistency - you may get a good one, you may get a bad one, you may get an REALLY bad one.

If I were going to get any of those, it would probably be the Squier "Start rocking" pack or whatever it is. Maybe with the Squier, you'd have a better chance of getting a decent one.

I maintain, though, the most important thing is getting a guitar in your hand. If you like playing, you'll want a better guitar, anyway, so just get one and start learning.

still thinking whether to get this from Amazon or not.
probably gonna get the PS3 version with the Real Tone Cable and get the PC version when it goes on Steam Sale :/

I prefer an acoustic guitar.. (I'm a total newbie) any good recommendations?

My best recommendation is to get an electric. Easier on your fingers, better in Rocksmith and you'll have plenty of tone to play with inside of Rocksmith not to need an amp for a while. Once you play and learn plenty of stuff, you can go get an acoustic. :)

Anyone else who hoarded pedals during the BB closings? Here are a couple of nice (stage worthy) options for pedalboards that are on clearance at MF, GC and M123...

PS-45 - Was around $275, on clearance for $172.

SKB PS-55 Stagefive Professional Pedalboard - Usually around $365 - on clearance for $185.89

Anyone who has SKB cases knows the quality of them. I can;t imagine the pedalboards are much different. Anyway, the power distribution system alone is worth more than they're charging for the whole thing. The PS-55 has a hard case cover than goes on hinges and locks down like a guitar case...

is the bundled one still the one to get?

I know that the export from RS1 to 2014 costs 10 bucks, but are the RS1 games limited to one export only? Kind of like how Lego Rock Band included a one time use code to ensure it could only be exported once.

Fun graphic from the RS facebook page

Alright guys, looking at guitars. Are the front page ones still my best bet? I've got $150 amazon credit to use. Thanks!
The Dean Vendetta is still a solid choice. From what I can tell the specs haven't changed.

I would pass on the Les Paul Jr for now.

I love my cherryburst LPjr & wouldn't trade it, but the current stock out there looks to be cheaper buillds than my model: biggest difference being a tonewood body vs. mahogany body. (WTF is up with tonewood :bomb: ). If they cheaped out on that, who knows what else they did.

Maybe they'll go back to all-mahogany when they bring back the candy colors.

is the bundled one still the one to get?
No... not unless you find one of those insane clearance deals @ Sams Club for last year's bundle. $50 for the game+guitar is killer.

At $200, it's a pass since you can get a better deal buying separate.

No code at all to import the song.

Don't know for sure, but I think the import looks to see if you have a game save for the old version.

No idea what happens if you try to import w/out ever having played the old version. Anyone know???

I went to the in-game "shop" and under the bundles there was a Rocksmith 1 import bundle and it said I qualified for the import. I guess it just checks to see if you've played the game before. Idk how it does it because at no point did it ask me to insert the original game disc in.

As for the download, it wasn't a code at all. It simply downloaded off Xbox Live for me. It's tied to your Xbox Live account so if you happen to get a new console or whatever, so long as you transfer the license over you can redownload the import. I definitely recommend getting it. Basically doubled the amount of songs you have to play and only for 10 bucks (relative to $3 per song for DLC).

Just got the sale catalog for MF's winter sale... They have this for $299, which is $200 off the regular selling price of $400 ($700 MSRP)... That's a hell of a lot of guitar for the price. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't considering it. I think I could sell my LTD Viper and coffin case and get most of the price out of it...

Nice, saw that last week and forgot all about it.

The Blacktop line is all MIM isn't it?

I sorta got my panties in a bunch over something else. Tryin' my best to remain chill until I see how some other things pan out.

Man, just thinking about it... this has been a pretty tame year for guitar deals.

If it wasn't for the the Bestbuy implosion there woulda been almost nothing to talk about. And that was only good if you traveled the backwater roads that Crazedracer zooms by on ;)

Even the Gibson clearance ended before it really got going.

Well, in case I don't get another chance to say it...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Yeah - that should be out of the Mexico plant. Hell of a deal. I don't have anything with P90s on it.

Of course, I also haven't picked up a guitar in a week and a half.

Not bad, but if you're going to spend around 300-400 on a new guitar, you could probably get a really nice Epiphone. I think I saw some on MF that were on sale from 900+ to around 400. I have a Fender Strat myself (SSS) and you can't beat that old school blues sound but you could probably do a little better depending on what you're looking for. I've been wanting a Les Paul for a long time now. I might grab an Epi LP Black Beauty if it ever hits the right price, but I can't justify spending over 700 on one right now.

I would bet that there aren't more than 2 of these nationwide. Best Buy had been clearancing stuff out for a year or so. Most of the good stuff (and there were only a few music stores in BB to start with) is LOOOOONG gone... I bought most of it around here. :)
