Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Nothng you can do but click all the songs one by one and see which ones come up as already purchased and they;re different for every person (someone in the forums has "Whipping Post" show up as already purchased, while I got "Jessica", 2 MB20 songs showed as purchased for me, but others got none, etc.)... It was a while back... I bought the Jaguar in October of 2012 and bought the Les Paul in like March of 2013. That was the first and the last guitars I got before they closed the musical instrument stores entirely. Some people didn't find much in the stores, but my stores were gold mines and I made friends in the most well stocked store with the woman that was working there, so she gave me some pretty insane deals... One of the Strats I got was still in the shipping box from Fender and I got it for $327 - for a $900 '60's Classic Series Strat... The Les Paul my friend discounted to $203 - for a $750 guitar. It was this one...It has a USB output and a Nanomag pickup at the bottom of the neck, so it plays acoustic tones, too. You can switch the pickups to play acoustic AND it has 2 outputs so you can play acoustic and electric at the same time... Makes for some interesting sounds.

First time buyer for Rocksmith.  I scrolled through all the songs on the in-game shop and none of them came up as free or already owned.  Unless they fixed it, I think this is a glitch pertaining to those who have songs purchased through the 360 version.

Yeah - I'm wondering if they incorrectly mapped some songs or something. Even some of the newer packs - like Shinedown - that you would figure were right, are not. At least Tom Petty and Bon Jovi worked on X1...

 
21 songs for me with very little overlap between me and crazed. Depending how you look at it I actually had a few more, but they were songs that I had already purchased as part of a pack (even though I can't get any of my packs besides bachsmith). I sure wish I had the luck crazed did. Not only did he get more, but I'd really like a lot of his songs better than what I got. My 21 had only a couple of gems (for me). I think Seventeen by Winger was the standout
 
Only went through songs I had at least a slight chance of wanting to learn. All I got was 45 by Shinedown, which I'll gladly take regardless, but dang, I wish I could have gotten more. The funny part about it was I thought I bought it for the 360,but checked my hard drive... Not there. I downloaded the song a few days ago and didn't realize I actually got it for free, haha.

Hah I got Seventeen as well. I didn't think to check songs from packs but maybe that will work. I also ended up getting Free Fallin by Petty which is relatively new. Only made out with like 11 songs though. I should probably look through the list again when I get a chance maybe there's some more that didn't click that should have. Overall though most of them were songs I had no interest in learning, but free is free, right?

 
Did my check last night and honestly don't remember how many showed the INSTALL option instead of a price.

I wanna say it was at least 20, but really don't want to go thru all the DLC again to find out.

Doesn't the X1 have a way to show you all DLC you've purchased?  I couldn't find anything last night and I know you could easily find it on the 360. (Guess I still need to understand this UI).

Hoping I might get more once I'm able to stick a disc into the X1

 
So does music123 not beat competitors prices anymore? I was reading their policy and it doesn't sound like it. Musicians friend has a charvel dst-1 star for $350 while music 123 has it for $650. I could have gone for it with 23% off of the difference like they used to do

I figure they stopped it. I know I ate them up on it with matches for those pedals a year or more ago... And picks... And straps... It wasn't pretty...

 
Yeah, I got maybe as many as 6 Akai pedals for $16-25 ea. I tried to get more but somebody wised up and got with Akai and the two websites never had the same pedals in stock at ththe same time. Then I guess they got even more wise and just changed the policy.

I wanna say they killed it, over a year ago...???

And yeah, it was brutal. Like you said Akai pedals, straps, pics, strings. I loaded up on a bunch of stuff for pennies on the dollar.

I also got 2 of my Schecters that way: Stargazer and PT. Knocked them down into the low 200's for each.

The BestBuy clearance was the last, great deal wave since 2011-2012. 2013 was mostly meh and 2014 has sucked balls.

Gibson year-end clearance was the last good thing to watch for and that seems to have gone away too.

I just bought Rocksmith over Black Friday. Anybody recommend me some good guitars to buy?? I use to play Guitar Hero way back, but I know Rocksmith is better at playing a Electric guitar sim.

I just bought Rocksmith over Black Friday. Anybody recommend me some good guitars to buy?? I use to play Guitar Hero way back, but I know Rocksmith is better at playing a Electric guitar sim.

Your options are based on your budget. Besides that my best advice would be to try them out if you could. My preference is a thin neck, satin finish and a set thru neck.

My budget is $300 - $400 for a decent guitar. Seen some on Amazon selling for $150 US. Might just go cheap to start out.

That budget will buy you something nicer than a starter guitar. At that level, you can get a Fender Standard Strat or Tele. I'm a Fender guy, so that would always be my route. The best way to figure out what you want starting out is to look at what type of misconduct you like or want to play. I play country and Americana (Tom Petty, Seger, Mellencamp, etc.) so Teles and Strats are given for me. You like Classic rock? Look at a Les Paul. You like metal? Look at Schecters. You like rockabilly? Look at a Gretach. Really, the type of music you love is pretty important in what kind of guitar you'll be happy with.

ebay or Amazon. I've seen them go for 30-35 but I don't know how well those are selling. I bet if you put it up for 25 you'll sell it instantly. I'm thinking of doing the same.

Thanks man. Based on your recommendations might just buy two guitars. I love Classic rock so Les Paul for sure, but lately I love country music too, so might order a Strat too. Didn't know electric guitars have a different feel depending on the genre you're playing. Time to get playing :)

1. It's going to be hard to find a Gibson LP at that price range unless it's older/used/etc. You're most likely looking at an Epiphone.

2. Classic rock is a vague term when thinking of guitars so you shouldn't just go with a LP just because you like classic rock. Keep in mind the strat is an iconic instrument that many rockers in that genre have played. Jimi Hendrix played a strat. So did the likes of Jeff Beck, Clapton, Gilmour (Pink Floyd), John Lennon and George Harrison, SRV, and the list goes on and on.

I would say it's not so much about the genre but the sound. Most strats are going to have single coil pickups as opposed to humbuckers on Gibson/Epiphone guitars. It's all about what you prefer. Alternatively, you could go for an Ibanez or something else too.Go into a Guitar Center or Sam Ash and test out some of their guitars and see what you like.

Also, with 300-400 dollars you really shouldn't buy 2 guitars. They'll end up being 2 low end starter guitars. Go at it collectively and just get one that suits your style. There's no need to start an axe collection just yet.

 
I'd agree with IZ... There is a pretty big difference between a hundred dollar Squier and a $400 Fender Standard Strat or Tele. A nicer guitar will be more enjoyable to play and will probably make you stick with it. You can get more guitars later.

For $300-400 you won't find a Gibson Les Paul unless the seller is desperate or doesn't know what they have. You should be able to get an Epiphone in that range with little trouble. It may be a sale price or used though.

I've always had issues with the whole "certain guitar for certain music" thing. Yes guitars sound different but I've seen all sorts of guitars used by all sorts of artists. Albert King played a Gibson V while Clapton played primarily a fender strat. Both blues. Jon 5, guitarist for Marilin Manson and Rob Zombie plays exclusively Fender Telecasters. His sound, especially his solo stuff, is all over the place and he uses just one type of guitar. Go with quality and feel over anything else

I also agree that one decent guitar is better than 2 starter guitars. With your budget you should easily be able to get a made in Mexico Strat and a halfway decent combo amp used. Be sure to check out craigslist before buying new
 
Yeah - I didn't mean it as an absolute. Obviously, feel is important. Lots of people at a guitar that wouldn't be considered "correct" for their genre... But you wouldn't want an EMG loaded axe for country or, as a general rule, a Tele for death metal. It just serves as a good starting point. The most important thing, as always, is get your hands on it and try it out.
 
Thanks CAG aficionados. I've decided to get a Fender Strat about $500 on amazon as my starter guitar. Was initially leaning towards the cheap Les Paul but got convinced by you guys that one decent guitar is better than 2 beginner guitars. I wished I kept up with playing electric guitar in HS. Played abit for a year and abit but left band and my guitar playing. Also any classical CAG guitarists on here?? Got the itch now to learn Classical Guitar on the side

Have you played any of your options in person?

When I picked up a bass, there were several universal recommendations from various sources and most will tell you anything from the Squier lines or Ibanez make the best beginner basses. I was all set to buy one online, but at the last minute a friend invited me shopping with him because he was picking up a new guitar. Anyways, went to three different shops, played 30 different basses, from new stuff to vintage and customs, from $120 to $1800+. Finally found the perfect bass for me and my price range and it is nothing like the Squiers or Ibanez that most will recommend for beginners. Even better is that I learned a ton that day about sound, pickup configurations and found some great aspirational guitars (Eastwood Hi-Flyer) for further down the road. She will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine.

TLDR: Advice is great, but feel is personal. If you're going to spend $300+, spending a little time in person is well worth it.

Are the newly released packs, like the Rage pack, transfer licenses yet? I'm down to buy them but would want to purchase on my 360 so that I have them on both systems
 
I still have yet to have access to my 360-bought packs on the X1, and it's very frustrating. I did buy all the singles I owned and a few free ones, but the packs are nowhere to be found. And forget about the RS1 import, that's not even on Ubisoft's radar yet. Very annoying considering the game's been out for a month now.

 
The whole transfer dlc is new to me. I heard you could transfer for free, and i'm waiting to see about transfering rocksmith 1 songs. I would hope to see a dlc sale on xbox 1 like steam does around Christmas time.

I had no issues getting my rs1 songs imported to Xbox one. It was the same as when I got 2014 on 360. It asked me if I'd ever played RS and I clicked yes. I clicked no to the refresher. Then it told me I could buy the import pack so I clicked that and it said I had already purchased it and gave me an option to install. Piece of cake. Not sure why you'd have issues. I can confirm that not a single pack that I'd bought is available to me on xbox one yet and that it's pretty frustrating

I had no problem getting the RS1 import. It prompted me to download it the very first time I played RS on the X1.

 
The devs have indicted they know there is some issue with the import. Mine worked with no issue. I'm missing a lot of DLC, but I got Bon Jovi and Tom Petty and that's all I care about right now. They'll straighten it out eventually.
 
Just got the game. I feel like the menu in this one is more complex as opposed to the first game. Is there a mode where I can just play songs repeatedly and it'll add notes as I get better?

Yes, IIRC it's called non-stop play.

You'll be able to set the amount of time you want the game to feed you songs. You can also customize the song selection; for example, you can choose E standard tuned songs so you won't have to change tunings or just choose a small set of songs that you want to work on.

 
Bought the game for PS4 for $40 on Amazon. My cable broke a long time ago (too long to count) and I never got around to buying another one. Since it was $40, I have no excuse to not buy it again since I do wanna learn guitar.

Plus since I needed a new cable, it was like $10 for the 12 Hendrix songs and the ability to use a bigger tv (had the pc version).

What do you guys recommend for a cheap screw around with bass? Brand wise anyway. I am looking to possibly get a bass as well and compare which one I like better (well guitar or bass). Something not complete garbage but something that wont cost me more than maybe $200-250.

Never seen much bad about Ibanez or Squier... Both of them have basses in that range. I just never talked myself into bass. I have a hard enough time with guitar. :) at least I can write and perform a complete song on guitar. Nothing sounds right with just a bass...
