Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

I was playing the first Rocksmith last night on my PS3 since I missed the $28 deal on Amazon and wanted to just fool around with my guitar. Man the loading/saving is such a mess. From what I played of 2014 they really revamped the whole UI and how the game saves and what not...which makes missing that deal hurt even more :wall:
Hi. Kinda new to this. So got Greenday rockband plus ps3, but no guitar. Best way to find one? Can a xbox 360 mustang guitar be used for rocksmith? Found a new mustang guitar, but was also thinking of getting the old rockband and guitar hero games for the 360 that can work with this guitar. Also, Rocksmith 2014 at Gamestop for about $13.

Picked up greenday at Gamestop on ps3. So, looking for a guitar and not sure where to find one or if it needs a dongle. Found a mustang xbox 360 guitar, but not sure what rockband and guitar hero games that work with the mustang. I wasnt joking. Just wanted to play Greenday on ps3 and maybe try rocksmith on xbox 360 along with rockband and guitar hero series.

To be honest, you need a 'real' electric guitar for Rocksmith. The Rockband/Guitar Hero types won't work. Moreover, the guitar you use for Rocksmith has to fit a 1/4" cable:

"Can I use my guitar with Rocksmith?
Most likely, the answer is yes. If your guitar has a standard 1/4" output jack for you to plug in the required Rocksmith Real Tone Cable, then yes, your guitar will work. If your guitar does not have a jack (for example, many acoustic guitars), you can go down to your local music store and buy a pickup, and your guitar will be ready to plug in and play."-source: http://rocksmith.ubisoft.com/rocksmith/en-us/faq/

Doubt you missed it, but there's a Rocksmith DLC sale on the X1 (as seen in the XBL thread, thanks Bloomy).

Just not sure when it ends or if it's also on sale for the other systems.

Rocksmith 2014

So what is the mustang guitar good for?
For Rockband.

There's only one RB guitar that could work with Rocksmith and that's the RB Squier Pro guitar. Still wouldn't recommend buying it for use with Rocksmith (even if you could find a decent price for one).

Rocksmith uses real guitars. If you need help looking for a starter guitar, ask. The original recommendations, from when this thread first started, are still solid choices. But also check with friends and family... never know if they might have one you can initially borrow

Wasn't trying to be cheeky or anything just wanted to let you know those guitars wouldn't work on RS since you need an actual guitar (literally any real guitar will work). There are some really good options in the 100-200 range if you'd like to learn. I would recommend that over the GH/RB games any day. Rocksmith is a great teaching tool and can actually be fun as a game once you start learning.

I think these are good for the X360 as well. Picked up the Oasis and Radiohead packs. Been wanting those for a while just never had the motivation. Ain't no motivation like a sale though ;)

Already have the Bon Jovi, Dio, White Stripes, Toto, Lumineers, and Rage songs/packs.

If anyone wants a recommendation I would definitely go with any of those I listed. Lots of fun to play. Some of them like the White Stripes and Toto and Lumineers are actually really great for beginners.

Couch Guitar Straps is having a factory 2nd sale on their site right now... There aren't tons of straps in the sale, but there are a few. The Racer X straps are also on sale for 15% off. I know some of you will probably balk at a $30 strap, but these are some of the nicest straps I've ever used. I am slowly switching all of my straps to Couch Straps...

Thanks for the heads up. Grabbed a few things.

The racer x straps are cheaper during this sale than when I bought during their annual sale, lol (need to look that up).

The black&gold strap and the Cadillac Red straps are tempting, but I'm gonna chill a bit before I put another order in.

Most of the factory 2nds don't sound too bad, from their description.

The mustang trunkliner strap is already gone (maybe I got the last one), but they still have two racer x versions and two seatbelt versions.

I got a red w/ white stripe Racer X for my red Strats. It looks sharp. I want a silver w/ black stripe for my Jaguar.

I'm a sucker for the automotive ones. I just have to hold myself back a bit. I could drop a lot of money very quickly on their site...

Can anyone confirm if it's good on 360. Traditionally xbone purchases aren't BC, but 360 purchases are X1 compatible.

You'd have to fire up the 360 and check the store mate. I'm pretty sure I read they were good for 360 sales as well but I can't confirm, it's been a while since I used the 360 version of this game.

Here are the 2nd's I got from Couch.  Not bad, really.

The mustang strap is pretty bumpy/wavey, but the pattern helps hide it some.  The blue is practically mint; only found two waves on it.  Figure they should smooth out a bit more with regular use.  Easily worth the 12-14 that they cost.  Thanks again CrazedRacer.

BTW, some new Fender models coming soon.  Mmmm, tasty

Fender Duo-Sonics and Mustangs, for $500 (MiM).

Various colors but really like the capri orange, daphne blue and surf green. The duo sonics come in SS or HS pickup configs and the Mustangs will have SS or P90 configs.

I have one of the Squier Classic Vibe models, that I grabbed during a BestBuy deal years ago.

I am a fan

Heads-up SoCal cags...

Monoprice is having a Warehouse sale tomorrow from 8am-2pm

http://www.monoprice.com/pages/warehousesale?cl=res&utm_source=161021_email_local&utm_medium=email&utm_content=warehouse_sale_hero&utm_campaign=160914_warehousesale

You can grab one of their Les Paul clones for $60.

They are refurb's, but at least you'd be getting hands on, to check it out and see if it's worthwhile.

Suppose to have a bunch of different stuff on sale, so there's a chance they'll have the other music gear on sale (amps, strats, etc.)

Was debating on those Racer X straps when they were on sale. I think the red and black or red and white ones would've looked pretty sweet on my red Strat and red bass, but then I read they were vinyl and not leather. Was kind of hoping for a high quality leather strap. How is the feel of these? I'm not quite sure what vinyl feels like over your shoulder. They do look pretty sweet though.

Most comfortable straps I've owned. They really sit on your shoulder like leather. I have always loved the Fender straps with the leather backing once they're broken in a bit. These are like that from the start. I'm a Couch fanboy at this point. I love their whole company...

I guess I can take your word for it. Now to wait for the next sale..

Seems BB has Rocksmith Remaster for $31.99 with GCU. A solid deal for the cable alone imo. For those who have the PS4 or Xbone versions is there any difference? Planning on grabbing one.

No difference as long as your sound setup is correct. It's recommended you output sound from your Xbox/PS4 directly to a speaker instead of going through the TV to avoid lag. Also you should get a download voucher for the RS Remastered song pack they came out with a couple weeks ago. If you don't care about that and just want the game though, it's been cheaper before. The "remastered" thing is a free update so you don't necessarily have to buy this new version.

Also if you have the 360/PS3 version you should stick to the same console line as you can't get any of your DLC if you switch it up and jump from MS to Sony or vice versa.

Thanks for input. Yeah I have the game and cable for PS3, but no DLC so switching to either one would be no problem. I looked around for the digital version of the game, but most places have it at 30+, should have probably grabbed the PS4 version when it was around $15 a couple months back :wall:

That's almost 100% correct. The only different is that if you started on the 360 with DLC, that DLC DOES load into the Xbox One song list. But if you buy the DLC through the Xbox One store, then it is not accessible on the 360.

I was wondering if the cable was even in these seeing as previous editions always said "cable included" on the box. That's nowhere to be seen here.

That's what I was saying (probably not very clearly though). Jumping from the older console to the new one will transfer the songs, but not if you switch console lines (like jumping from 360 to a PS4 or from a PS3 to X1).

It actually says on the site synopsis "Plug any real guitar or bass into your console or PC using the included Rocksmith Real Tone Cable and learn to play with your favorite songs." although it could possibly be out of date. You could always walk into the store and check out the package just in case.

Honestly man, 40 bucks isn't bad considering you will also get the cable and 6 free songs with it (ordinarily around $14 if bought as a pack in the game store). I know it's been cheaper but many of us here have paid a lot more than that for this game, if you can even call it that. We also pour hundreds, even thousands (not even joking) into DLC. If you like playing guitar or you're serious about learning it then it'll be the best 40 bucks you invest.

Is 2014/Remastered a big improvement from the original? I don't play the original that much but I was wondering if the newer version makes it much easier to get into and learn?

Imo yes, its not even funny how well the UI was redesigned compared to the original.

Sorry for the late reply...

They are definitely great straps. The ones I bought a couple of years ago are still going strong. And I expect the 2nd's I bought to be just as durable.

I'll definitely be buying more, just prefer to do it during a sale, lol.

They have 3" wide straps now, so I hope they expand their designs into those too.

For those that want more info, here's their "About us" page

https://www.couchguitarstraps.com/about-us

And here's info about how the straps are made

https://www.couchguitarstraps.com/building-strap

They seem to have at least one annual sale, during summer. So start watching around June/July.

Guessing they posted the 2nd's sale on their FB page, so you could also check there.

^ this. Though I still miss the Journey mode and the old guitarcade games.

Anyway, still worthwhile to hunt down the original version, just to do the song transfer into RS2014. Most of the songs transfer for a small fee... think it's about 50 songs(???) or there abouts.

I picked this beauty up today at the House of Guitars in Rochester, NY. The Gibson bus was there having an event so I drove the 2 hours up out of a whim. I knew I had to have it as soon as I put my eyes on it.

I bought the left handed version earlier this year. I found it much easier to play, and actually wanted to play for longer periods. Good choice!

Edit---whoa !!! That's a true Gibson! Mine is just the Epi knockoff lol

Awesome I live 30 Min from Rochester NY and saw that!

Am I on the wrong site? Is this Rich Ass Gamer? :D/

Anyway enjoy man, that thing looks sweet.
As long as Gibson's quality is currently good, that instrument will last a life time, so it's a good investment from that stand point.

I have an Epiphone SG I bought from a friend ages ago , and while I can't really play it, the others who have said it's a good quality. I guess like most companies, they have low points in production quality(due to management, stock holders, etc), and my SG is better than or at least equal to some of the Gibson's made during the same period(or at least that's what I've been told).

MusiciansFriend "Veterans Day" sale

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/veterans-day-sale?icid=210932

Various things on sale and they also have a coupon, VETSDAY16 (probably doesn't stack with most things, as usual).

Couple of things that caught my attention were

EPI Wildkat with Bigsby @ $350

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/epiphone-wildkat-semi-hollowbody-electric-guitar-with-bigsby/518248000001000

That's the lowest, ever since they jacked up the price a while back.

MF guitar case in tweed @ $60

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/musicians-gear-deluxe-electric-guitar-case/540948000001000

Out of stock but still worth an order if you need a case.  And this is still better than the black version (in build & looks)

EPI SG special I, with humbuckers @ $119

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/epiphone-limited-edition-sg-special-i-electric-guitar

That Pelham Blue is a looker  .  Not sure if these are new this year (I sure don't remember any SG specials).

EPI Les Paul special I, with P90 pups @ $99

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/epiphone-les-paul-special-i-p90-electric-guitar

It's been this price before, but what matters is that they brought in fresh inventory of TV Yellow :bouncy:

Last time it was available was roughly around the release of OG Rocksmith.  I should know... never grabbed it when it was available and wasn't willing to drop more than a c-note for it.

Always a chance that Guitar Center will put these up as part of their Black Friday doorbusters, but doubt it will be lower than $89.  So if you like it, just grab it now and save yourself the hassle (free shipping)

Quick question for those who play RS often. It seems the game has a heck of a time recognizing anything I do on the E string specially at the 1st fret. Is this something on my guitar, is it the cable or my lady like fingers not pressing hard enough?

Not a deal breaker, but it does drive me insane whenever I play the slide guitarcade game

I would check the intonation first and foremost.

http://www.wikihow.com/Set-Your-Guitar's-Intonation

Also, you may be pressing too hard on the string, causing it to stretch... which would cause the note to sound wrong. For this try holding the string down, next to the fret instead of in-between frets.

You also want to make sure the volume and tone on the guitar is turned all the way up.

Once that's all done, recalibrate the guitar to Rocksmith... you know that thing you did when you first started Rocksmith.

I also run into that problem. I had to press lighter on the string. I tried all over. Right next to the fret, in the middle, away from it. Couldn't get that "buzz" and lack of note recognition to go away. Would always calibrate fine, then crap the bed on low E around 1-3. Still not perfect, but barely touching the string and almost playing it open allows it to be recognized far more than before.

Must... Resist... Wildkat...

Nah... It's beautiful, but I can't cheat on my Fenders. Now if that were a Bigsby Telecaster, I'd have moved the money from savings and bought it already...

Several Fenders (American Standard) on sale at worldmusicsupply.

https://www.worldmusicsupply.com/index.php?route=product/search&search=american%20standard

You have to add it to your cart in order to see the final price.  But the few I checked were getting a $150 discount, plus free shipping.

There are other Fender and Squiers that also have a discount.  Amount of discount varies by model.

Here are the Squiers

https://www.worldmusicsupply.com/guitars/electric-guitars&filter=103

Here are the Fenders

https://www.worldmusicsupply.com/guitars/electric-guitars&filter=40

The models that have a green cart, with white dots around the border are the ones with extra discount once added to cart. (you'll know what I mean when you see it)

The minigames in RS are pure shit and have trouble recognizing a lot of different notes, it isn't you, it is the game and there is no fix.

So here's something interesting...

Those Gibson Firebird zero guitars are getting exclusive runs at different retailers.  They've gone from one single flavor to four.

-Guitar Center family of stores have Pelham Blue & Black

-Sam Ash stores have Gold Mist

-American Musical/Zzounds has a faded Pelham Blue

Remember, these are made in USA and priced at $500
