Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Wow thats cheap. Totally worth it too. band/rhythm gamea.got old real fast for me, as id rather play my real guitar. Thia turned out to be the best of both worlds.

Better yet, it's been able to teach non-players how to play power chords and it feels so much more rewarding for them

If you're interested in a guitar this weekend, I went over to Guitar Center today to check out their list sale. There are definitely deals to be had around the 100-200 starter range... You should be able to check a good majority of the deals from the pdf for your store on the website for GC.

The higher priced stuff on the list was not so great. Saw a goldtop Les Paul that I liked for around 330, but not low enough to make me bite. They had some good deals on strings.

Thanks to rbarb4, I'm working on scales now. My weak link is my pinky. It's gotta get stronger before I knock out higher scores. I'm just not used to using it.

I also am trying to work in my Fretboard country roadmaps book to learn the first position scales, since that's what most country music is built around...

New DLC Day:
Na Na Na - My Chemical Romance
Planetary (GO!) - My Chemical Romance
Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance

Decided to skip the sale since the lists were't all that hot. And there just wasn't any good chatter on the internetz about the sale. Oh well. Just gonna wait for that next crazy deal from Hello Music. At least they don't have all those exclusions

Good luck with scales. remember you gotta be quick but don't rush it.

Finally got 271 consecutive note streak in scales and got 14.67mil. Have a feelin that I'll break 15mil around the 275 consecutive note streak

Haven't checked into WMS in a while, but they still have some DBZ Barchettas. And they brought back the $40 case deal.

So, if you buy the Barchetta LT @ $170 you can get the custom fit DBZ case for $40. They're down to red only
http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/DBZ-BARLT-RE-Barchetta-LT-Premier-Series-Electric-Guitar-Red.html
And the case deal works on other DBZ models so here's the link to those guitars, if you wanna browse

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/big-...fT=&gP=1&pS=60&v=g&sB=sP&lP=pc&catId=10001021
Thinking of picking up a 3" suede strap to hold the guitar in place better. Finding I do better with the guitar at a higher angle than how it naturally rests
Oh snap. Two of them nearby. Might have to ask my mom to get one since she's going that way.

For $50? It's going to b a horrible guitar... But a horrible guitar, in your hand, playing, is a better guitar than no guitar. If you really want to learn to play, it's a cheap way to get started. If you like it and stick with it, you'll want to get something nicer later. If you hate it, you're only out 50 bucks.

Just bought one of those B Stock Viper 330s from Hello Music... I couldn't resist. Active EMGs, nice SG style guitar, locking tuner, tonepro bridge... I looked at a lot of B Stock ESP guitars on Ebay... Most have a tiny finish issue or a couple of light scratches on the fingerboard. Why the hell not take a chance at that price?

How to find the viper 330 you mentioned on their website? couldn't find it anywhere, and your link just led to the homepage. or is it already out?

Thanks!

It sold out about an hour after I posted. They made it featured in today's email at Noon and it sold out almost immediately.

PSA time: today's the last day to get Rocksmith for $30. Fry's sale ends today
Oh snap. Two of them nearby. Might have to ask my mom to get one since she's going that way.

Pretty much what crazedracer said. But should be good to get started with Rocksmith. It's gonna be similar to those First Act guitars that Target cleared out a bit ago

And you could do some basic work to make it play as good as possible; like a string change, bridge height adjustment, intonation check. Big thing is to look it over to see that nothing's broken/cracked, neck is straight and that it sends out a signal from the jack

Congrats:beer:. You scratched that EMG itch:)

I still got it in my head to get a semi-hollow with P90s, plus I also want to get a tele. Almost jumped on the modern player with that last hondo coupon

The ESP link is still at the bottom of the main page. But don't see the Viper anywhere so it probably did sell out. They still have other ESP models available

Got a couple email deals that might help others

American Musical still has the Fender G-dec3 amps in stock and they dropped the 15watt model to $100. One of the last few places to get it with free shipping and no tax.

Congrats:beer:. You scratched that EMG itch:)
I scratched that a while back with that PRS Allender. It's got coil tapped EMGs. I liked this viper for the locking tuners and non tremolo bridge. It's just gonna be my beater guitar. Figure if it's already a little blemished, I won't die if I beat it up a bit.

If I had read my email in time a couple of weeks ago, I'd have bought that Fender Pawn Shop Mustang they had. It would have been $539 with the $100 coupon. It sold out in an hour and I didn't see the email quick enough. That sucks. It's one of the few guitars that I REALLY lust for.

I'm really excited. I've been reading this thread and finally jumped on a used copy of rocksmith from eStarland. I'm going to be trying to learn to play on an epiphone SG that I found at a goodwill. I'm not planning on Rocksmith being my only source of guitar practice, but I thought it would mix things up a bit at least.

Wish me luck!

I've stuck with learning guitar for just over a year now, so I'm thinking I may upgrade from my Squier that I got in one of those amp/guitar kits.

The thing has done pretty well for me. It's held up very well, I have no complaints at all about build quality, but it does tend to go out of tune more than I suspect a guitar should, the tremolo bar is worthless because you're completely out of tune after using it to drop a mere two semitones, and while 95% of it is my own lack of skill, it's never sounded particularly good to me.

I'm looking into one of those minimalist styled guitars, kind of like the ESP ones, where it's pretty much a solid color with few adornments, knobs, etc. I do like the in-line tuning knobs and would prefer to stick with the vaguely Strat feel. Any suggestions? I'd be looking for something in the $400 range, ideally on sale from like $600 MSRP, as that seems to be something of a price sweet spot for solid mid-range guitars. It'd have to be something I could try out in a store, or at least a very similar model.

Hopefully someone's had some experience with these types.

As for Rocksmith, I'm wishing there was more good DLC, but I'm still enjoying it. I have the PS3 version and since they patched 75% of the random crashes and made Riff Repeater more tolerable, it's been a lot easier to stick with.

My advice is to watch HelloMusic every day. I just grabbed one of this Viper 330s last week. It's a b-stock, but it was 199 (MF and GC sell them for 399). They tend to have great deals. Not sure, but you may be able to call them and see if they have any stock of that viper left from cancellations or anything. Maybe you could still grab one for 199. There's a pic above this post from last week when they were on sale...

From all I could find, a b stock can be anything from light scratches to a couple of paint chips (very small ones), but half I te regular selling price was enough to convince me to take a chance. I should get it tomorrow.

OK... Here it is... I can't take a pic of what makes it B stock because it is almost unnoticeable. There is about a quarter inch of place on the headstock that has about a half a drop of paint airbrush splatter on the edge of it. Literally. It took me 20 minutes to figure out why it was a B stock. $400 at GC and MF, bought for $188 from HelloMusic...

Looks pretty nice. Let us know how it sounds and holds up. I really have to be able to give it a whirl in-store before I jump on it, but I did sign up for HelloMusic and I'll keep an eye out.

The Schecter Stargazer got another price drop. It's now $373

Wonder if Amazon will make it 3 for 3 on sub 300 Schecter deals;)

Try looking at the Classic Vibe series from Squier. They consistently get high praise, so there must be something to them

And seems like every vendor is participating in the Fender/Squier sale right now. Select models are 25-100 off
Target has RS for $39.99, temporary price cut.
You Sir made my day, while also ruining my relationship.

Was skeptical at first since the website said $60 bucks and no ad in the weekly. Sure enough $40 bucks at my local target.

Been playing guitar for 10 years, got a Schecter I put an EMG 81 and 85 in. Also obtained a Fender Strat. I LOVE playing along with songs. I'll report back my experiences.

P.S.
Any good DLC packs?

I thought the Three Doors Down songs were surprisingly good. Plenty difficult and they're cool to play. A lot of people like the blues pack. I'm not a huge fan, so I didn't buy it.

I picked up the Megadeth pack recently, mostly for Hangar 18 due to playing the heck out of it in Guitar Hero. It will be a while before I will be up to speed with these...

A great way to check out the DLC is on youtube, there are guys that have full songs posted.

Thanks for the heads up. You're a good CAG.
Got it last night. My fingers hurt. Playing on an old Danelectro 56 U2.

Hello Music has the Austin Super 6 guitar for $149 (gold top) and the Dean Thoroughbred Deluxe for $399 (scary cherry)
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/Home.aspx?cat=PROMO
This is the second time I've seen that goldtop on there. But still can't find reviews on it. Best I came up with was links to St Louis Music. So not sure if they just sell it or if it's their store line

And ya know what day it is? It's
New DLC Day!!!
The RS team pulled off a Queen mega pack release. 5 songs total:

*Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
*Fat Bottom Girls - Queen
*Keep Yourself Alive - Queen
*Killer Queen - Queen
*Stone Cold Crazy - Queen
Target has RS for $39.99, temporary price cut.
Awesome!. Thanks man.
Saw it at my local store this morning too.

But check out the Holiday song pack. Those are free and fun to play
Well, went up to $650. Kinda glad cuz I'm sure I woulda jumped on it if it had hit $300. Think it got down to about 345 before the increase

Anybody know if any of the dlc has gone on sale before or have some knowledge of it going on sale in the future? I've now played all the songs on the disk and need some more for variety.

Anyone know if they fixed the lag on this? I heard it was really bad, and I dont wanna drop cash on it if it's not been addressed. Thanks
Anyone know if they fixed the lag on this? I heard it was really bad, and I dont wanna drop cash on it if it's not been addressed. Thanks
The main issue with the lag is that people can't seem to read and follow directions. I have 0 lag. I use a 360 audio adapter to output to standard RCA outputs into my Turtle Beach headphones.

You just can't use HDMI for audio (in most cases... some TVs are perfectly fine right out of the box with HDMI audio). It's spelled out in the instructions, but, like I said, idiots don't read and then can't understand why it's still lagging.

Well I hope it works with hdmi for me. I don't have surround sound at the moment, and I went ahead and picked this up... I guess I could hook up my old shelf system if I have to..

I nabbed those strings right away! Never used those strings but its worth the gamble. @elmoney you probably will get some lag with the hdmi, but there are settings for delay in the game. You might even havd something in your tv settings.

Glad I could help out a fellow Steeler fan... I mean, guitarist :) Yeah - I thought that was a pretty stellar deal. I bought 2 sets of 5, just for the hell of it. I figure that's good for the next year.
Well I hope it works with hdmi for me. I don't have surround sound at the moment, and I went ahead and picked this up... I guess I could hook up my old shelf system if I have to..
Here's my setup:
TV - A nothing-special HDTV. All my game systems run into it via HDMI cables
Speakers (http://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Tech-ET...qid=1340027730&sr=8-1&keywords=eagle+speakers) - These speakers are pretty cheap, and sound pretty good. Certainly much better than any HDTV's built in speakers. They also have two analog audio inputs that operate concurrently so you don't need to switch audio inputs. I run my TV's audio output into one of them.
Xbox 360 - As I mentioned above, I have an HDMI cable running out of this system into the TV. But here's the important difference - I have the audio running out separately via the A/V cable, and it goes into the second input on the speakers. The Xbox 360 automatically routes the audio through the A/V cable if it detects that the cable is plugged in. I have the older model Xbox 360, so the HDMI and A/V outputs are really close together. I had to pry off the A/V connector's plastic casing and really jam everything in. PS3 can also split the video/audio between HDMI/analog outputs, though I seem to recall having to configure this manually in the system settings.

Since I'm not using the HDMI audio, there is very little lag. I have tried Rocksmith using HDMI audio and it is incredibly laggy. But the pamphlet included with the game warns you of this. It's not the developer's fault that some (most?) TVs have so much HDMI lag.

Came in to mention the GHS strings from Beat Buy. I too snagged these right away. The decision was made even easier thanks to my mystery $5 reward zone cert. I'm just glad these weren't 4.99 or else I couldn't have used it. At the very least it's still worth it just to get 5 E strings.
