Saw a 60GB PS3 at Target tonight with some interesting backstory

During my late night run to Target for some last minute traveling necessities I stumble across these two electronics department employees discussing the lone 60GB PS3 sitting neatly in the glass display. I walked into the scene just as one of them was asking another customer if she would like to buy the PS3. The customer rolled her eyes and responded with a "no thanks" glance.

Once I realized what was going on I couldn't help but laugh. "I can't believe you guys actually have one of those!" The sales guys turned around and were quick to share the unit's background story. Apparently, the PS3 was a return. An angry mother brought it back and received a full refund for it. The unit was a launch day system that was purchased as a Christmas gift for her son. Needless to say, mom returned the PS3 to Target, UNOPENED. Why you ask? Her idiot son got an F on his report card.

PWNED!

Figures, only 12 year old Jr. would be impressed with the PS3 so he could show his "mad skills" at Madden to all his friends on his parents 1080p TV

Semi on-topic, I never did understand how you can get an F in a class. I mean as long as you show up and give it the absolute minimum effort (which isn't much) you should be able to at least get a passing grade.

I don't get it? Or was that comment really stupid? Anyone?

Oh yeah, you are the person that started that 'Mizzari' thread.

You know, my aunt did the same thing with her son and the original Xbox. Thankfully, she didn't return it. She just stashed it in the attic.

That's pretty funny. I'm not sure I'd take away a kid's Christmas present, but I may not let him play it until he brought his grades up.

if he is doing that bad in middle school (which isn't hard at all) then she should not only take the ps3 away, but take away all of his toys / games until he improves....an F is horrible, especially at that low a level of education.....

If you don't like the PS3 at all, why are you reading threads in the PS3 forum?

EDIT: I see tholly's advice and raise him monitored homework and/or a routine at Kumon.

College + Wastewater Management Engineering + actually going to class and studying = F

I got a C+ the second time around though!

....I got an F in about 3 classes, and followed all those steps. XD

Blows my mind how I got a C in AP Physics yet failed 1 semester of Pre-Calculus, but of course, the teacher was not very teach-worthy, he'd spend half the time talking to students or discussing his favorite band, Bush....I think. Ahh I forget, it started with a B and had 4 letters >.>...he sucked so bad half the class had F's and the other half had D's...FTL!!!11!

I thought the same thing as well... untill I failed ap calculus in high school. Oh well, got into the college I wanted, and only had to take two easy business math courses, so calc never again for me :)

I've been teaching for 13 years and it never ceases to amaze me how people fail. I swear I have students who try to find new and interesting ways to fail.

That's mild, I had somebody return a PSP last week because they found out their kid was putting porn on it. Talk about an awkward conversation with a customer...

Indeed.
"Shout out" to the Mom for actually giving a damn about her childs education!
I think that mother had second thoughts about spending so much money on the system. Probably if the kid would have had an B on the report card she would have taken it back. she could just pretended to take it back... ride with it in her car, get the kid to do whatever she wanted.... oh well... good forthe kid, will teach him to not play around in school.

where do you work that people can return opened and admittedly working game consoles?
where do you work that people can return opened and admittedly working game consoles?
Most stores don't care about opened hardware, working condition or otherwise. Its opened software that they have a problem with. Check their return policies sometime, almost none of them say anything about not being able to return opened video game hardware.

I don't believe the story. It probably was just an Ebay flipper that realized there was no profit in selling the system. When she returned it, she would have sounded dumb if she told the truth...
where do you work that people can return opened and admittedly working game consoles?
Like RvB mentioned, most stores allow return of hardware given that it's within a certain period. Throughout high school and college I have worked retail for almost 5 years (cursed to have a part time job til graduation...) with three different companies all of them allowing returned working game hardware. However, the really odd thing about this situation was the guy was returning the a core PSP system at the time but didn't reutrn a memory card at all. While it's possible he returned it as defective to some other place, if his kid really was loading porn on it he didn't really solve the problem much by returning just the PSP. Also, take into consideration he may have been a liar like Larry6171 mentioned. Most people would probably be suprised at the really crazy excuses that's used for returning things.

One term I failed English (SHocking I know.) and another term I failed Algabra 2. It's easy to fail a class.

In English a girl and I would talk the whole class because all we ever did was listen to a story like 5 year olds or did vocob. Neither of us were good at the vobo. At one time the teacher went to us gonig "Would you like to be somewhere else?" We both started laughing our asses off and went "YES CAN WE LEAVE!?" and he went "No". Me being a smart ass went "Then why did you ask?" He didn't reply. The next year he started teaching math because math is so much like English.

My math teacher... oh she was great. She once had a nervous breakdown because someone wasn't writing down every damn note. She walked out of the classroom after yelling like mad and never came back that day. I got the highest or second highest grade in the class on tests. One test I got the higest grade by a mile, I got a 57ish. The second closest to me got a 21, then a 15, then all single digits! During the summer she was supposed to come back and called up the school like a week before classes started and said "I quit, I'm going to Florida".

The point is when a child says "It's the damn teachers fault" you might want to listen. I explained all the terrible shit that the teachers would say or do or the things we would do in class. They we so bad or so completely pointless my mom wouldn't ever believe me. After I graduated my cousins and step cousins would explain all the terrible things that went on in the school and my mom finally belived me.

People always try to make it seem that grades are the most important thing ever. The girl that spent all her time, literally, 4-5 hours a day studying for her classes went to some lame school that if you got Cs you could get into. She doesn't remember any of it because all she did was memorize it for the week and throw it down on the test. The next week she forgot all of it to remember this weeks stuff. I went from high honors and honors with As and Bs to Fs, Ds, and Cs within 18 months. After awhile I realized I wasn't going to learn anything from these assholes so I will just study what I want to at home. High school is a complete waste of time.
I was afraid you were going to say that he refused it because he really wanted a Wii instead...
I was in line at TRU the day after Christmas buying a classic controller and the kid behind me was buying a PS2 memory card adapter of for the PS3 he got for Christmas. Long story short, I was telling him about the Wii and by the time I was next to the register the kid(10-12) told his dad to forget the adapter(which they put on a nearby shelf), because he wanted to return his PS3 and wait for a Wii. Needless to say his dad was more than willing due to the $350 price difference. They were also wondering if they should get the Gamecube Zelda now or get the Wii version. I let them know about the $37 deal for Zelda at Target and they headed over there.

So they came to get PS3 accessories and walked out with none and instead went to buy Wii stuff for the system they didn't have. lol

Sony PWNED!

Well i am glad you messed with that kids mind to get a wii. First he is too fucking young for a $600 console that has features he can't even begin to understand. Now some 12 years understand how to use a computer really well but if he was one then no way he would have changed his mind to a wii

So, long story short, you're an asshole in real life too?

Being able to coast through high school is a fantastic feeling.

And yes, as someone who will now be teaching high school I will most assuredly fuck kids who want to coast.

There's a difference between coasting and specifically antagonizing teachers, its pretty obvious that not only was David85 coasting but he was antaganozing his teachers as well.
