i went in to my gc and found the locked up front door. later i tried to get my discs buffed. they said that the was the first thing to be removed. gc had to give theirs to hollywood video.

heard from employee that corporate knew at least a week before. it would explain the no stock of psp go (released today/tomorrow) and lack of ps3 slims beyond initial preorders. And if HWV/GC is really going to remake or reopen GC only stores, why would sell off most of your inventory?
 
I've been updating the ds TIV list but it's a lot of work and I wonder if it's worth the effort at this point.

Went in to GC to buy a "rare" game because I was worried that it would be shipped out tomorrow. Guy said that tomorrow, they will be shipping out all systems first. He was really upset. Poor dude.

The case looks pathetic now with a smattering of crappy old games in it. Image is everything and they went from looking well stocked and well rounded to looking, well, cheap.

I wonder where they are sending all this stuff off to if the GC closures are happening at the same time. Amy idea Scorch?

I was in GC last evening to trade in some games... I usually put the credit on my gift card so I can carry it between stores, but yesterday, the system refused to let the store clerk add value to my gift card. She was puzzled too and she ended up giving me another gift card. I didn't ask her about the impending closure, if any, because I wasn't sure if they knew already and didn't want to upset her...
 
I told my friend about the news of the stores closing and she hadn't heard anything and said she didn't care as she was going elsewhere already lol. Seems like the local ones aren't closing but that's only 2 so far out of 7. I only go to 2 and the others suck so oh well. Any way to find out which stores are closing? That way we know where to shop for the deals :)

Do you know if the Centreville, Va or Manassas, Va. stores are closing also? I used to work at the Centreville one and all I can say is if they are closing, they definitely had it coming. Shady shit has been going on in that location since before I worked there.

As long as you still have your warranty paperwork, you can take the system to ANY location to have it replaced as long as its within the warranty time-line. However, if all of the locations around you are closing, you may have to drive hundreds of miles to have it replaced. :cry:

This is highly doubtful, at this point, they are going to try to make as much money off of what little bit of stock they have left in the store. Usually when they ran the higher percent off deals, the MVP didnt stack.

Best of luck to you scorch and everyone else involved in the closings. Being someone who was involved in the closing of a circuit city I feel your pain. It's unfortunate that they went this route as the game crazy's by me were always top notch even though they were in kind of shitty areas.

Not sure which one you go to in the Cincinnati are but if they are open they will open in about 15 mins (10 AM EST). I am calling the one closest to me Tylersville 513-777-1705.

I don't think it is a good sign that they no longer come up on the store locator at gamecrazy.com

The one I used to work at Forest Park, OH is still on the list though.
 
Anyone know if any of the MN stores are closing? Mainly wondering about the Uptown, Minneapolis and Golden Valley locations...

Uptown and Minneapolis aren't Game Crazy stores.

I haven't seen any MN locations confirmed in this thread, but I can't imagine the Cottage Grove location sticking around.

I don't see any reason to put TIVs on hold since many stores will remain open.

That said, I need to drain my credit tonight. Everything I've read said most anything worth buying will be cleared out before the sale begins on Saturday.

Is this only for the free-standing GameCrazy stores or does it also include the ones attached to a Hollywood Video?

What a dick move. Guess I'll go tonight as well then.

Oh yeah, I never got an answer about canceling pre-orders. Are they going to give us shit if we try to cancel now that HWV is taking it over?

I managed a Game Rush as well...Blockbuster barely supported them past the initial launch. It was a total, utter failure in every way.

Uptown Mpls is a Hollywood Video that has a GameCrazy in it - so this only applies to standalone stores?

I'm relatively sure the Golden Valley location is a standalone, anyone have any information on that store?
 
Wow, the timing of these closings sure sounds like a stupid idea to me.

Closing a bunch of stores within a few weeks right as the holiday season begins. That doesn't make sense to me.

I wouldn't say it's a dick move. They are still trying to keep the whole chain in business. And moving the newer stuff is one way to do it. But it does look like it will be a worthless sale. They'll probably only have stuff that is already 30% overpriced. :roll:
 
My store is closing too. Garden Grove, CA. All the stores in the OC were closed, out of 11 in LA I believe only 2 will remain (Santa Fe Strings, and 1 other )

When I heard that they were shipping all new product back I rushed in and cancelled all my preorders and bought a Wii and a bunch of XBL points cards. The remaining 200$ is on a gift card.

I actually lost sleep over this last night, I feel so bad for the guys in the store, I'm really surprised that they are closing before the xmas season. I'm guessing this is in preparation to sell the company, so whatever credit is left on gift cards may very well become useless as well.

They got a Store Manager from Nashville there today and he's in charge of boxing all the consoles, new accessories, and most recent games (new and used) to be shipped back. We might be pretty bare, don't know yet, but we got quite a few used XBOX 360, PS2, and XBOX games if you looking for something hard to come by.

P.S. you all should write to Sherif Mityas the CEO of the company and tell him how much of a dick move this is, they should close more Movie Galleries/Hollywood Videos instead because they are the one who are suffering according to the press call yesterday. To me it is, because they're basically pulling everything worthwhile for me to use up my credit on. It essentially makes the credit worthless and even if I did have another store local after they close down, I'd never give them business after that.
 
Went to my HWV yesterday and they were sending all there new/used games to Gamecrazy. Luckily, I got a couple with the 5 dollars off.
 
As much as I love a good sale, I hate to see a Gamecrazy close to get it. My experiences there have never been anything short of wonderful. Good luck to those losing their jobs.

No, Uptown is a HWV that has a GameZONE in it.

Had it been a GameCrazy, I wouldn't have gotten any $5 current gen used titles a few months back, nor $4 :ps2:/:gc:/:xbox: from there almost a year ago.

No, it's not. If they were closing the whole company, then yea. But there are just downsizing, so it makes perfect sense to take all of the hot stuff and resupply the stores that are staying open with it. Thus, allowing them to spend less money on holiday purchases for those stores.

It's pretty shitty that this is happening, and it's affecting a lot of people in a very bad way, so hearing you bitch about not getting a good deal when my store is closing, just pisses me off a little. So chill it.

All the OC stores are closing? I was planning on checking out the Aliso Viejo store tomorrow.

I'm still trying to build up a nice back log of PS3, PSP, and DS games, so this sale will hopefully be good for some of the older games.

It sucks when stores have to close, and I know what people have to go through. I worked at Circuit City before it closed down. Luckily, I was able to get a nice job about a month before everyone found out about the bankruptcy. A lot of my friends weren't so lucky. Hopefully, all the employees that are losing their jobs will be able to find a new one soon.
 
I work at the portsmouth, ohio movie gallery and they made us send back all consoles and any game over 19.99 so I'm guessing our gamezone will be going to the wayside... we're not allowed to sell preorder games any longer either. I don't think the video store is closing just getting rid of our game zone.

I'm not looking for a good deal, I'm looking for a reasonable return on my money. I have no other local GC's within 20 miles not closing down, so it's not feasible for me to take my credit elsewhere either (which also loses the tax exempt benefit). I'm not ragging on you or anyone who works at GC and we both agree it's a raw deal, so don't take it personal.
