Got the $9.09 for Pipe Mania at a regular HWV. I had heard a rumor regular stores weren't taking PS2 games so that was a relief. I left it on the account for hopefully some nice pickups on Thanksgiving Day.
 
If you haven't asked an employee to check to see if they have a game you're looking for, I definitely would. I went to the other GS in town to see if they had some of the games, and I didn't see any copies of Pipe Mania or Emma in the Mountains. I asked him if they had any of the games in stock, and I had actually missed Pipe Mania on a rack on the back wall behind the register, and Emma in the Mountains was WAY out of place (in the M's or something ridiculous). I was able to pick up PM new (again) and EITM for $10 new (only about a $4 profit, but still a profit). :D

Also, if you can find a used copy of Treasure World, I stated above that you can get a used copy at GS for $8.99 and flip it to GC for $12.50 without MVP. Once again, not much of a profit, but a profit is a profit, right? :D

Ha ha, I think the fact that a great many of us often times need to explain the deals to the person ringing us up, gives him the right to generalize.

EDIT: My experience for the most part has been with very capable and helpful GameCrazy employees. I was very sad to see so many in my area close - both for my convenience and for the employees.

not just at GC, every retail store that sells video games (target, BB, GS, walmart, u name it)

ive had personal experience with all stores not knowing there own deals/coupons/promos etc etc

Sorry to continue off topic, but retailers that have POS systems that actually apply the promotions automatically make the CSR being cognizant of a deal less important. When you rely on the the cashier to scan a seperate bar code to get a promotion, there are bound to be more instances of inconsistancy. It makes the buyer's knowledge of the deal and diligence imperative to receive it.

lol yea went to 3 diff gamestops to pick up the pipe manias. i was skeptical trading in that many at one time but i said the hell with with it. side note kid traded in like 50 games and a ps2 (was trying to buy a elite 360) andyway kid was short 10 dollas felt bad kid could of been no older then 10 to 11 seen him outside crying a lil he carried all that stuff with him on a bike :cry: anyway gave the kid a 20 told him keep the change and a used copy of asc 1 i didnt trade in he was very thankful . 7 pipe manias 70 dollars. making some kid day brighter priceless :D

i agree completely. But the way that dumbass tries to single out GC as the sole company guilty of this is ridiculous. He needs to take his troll self elsewhere, if you have a problem w/ GC, DON'T GO INTO A GC THREAD :roll:

I'd like to think you were meant to find all those copies of Pipe Mania- a couple were meant to balance out you helping make the kid happier, and the rest were rewards to you for helping the poor boy out. ;]
 
That was really nice of you man, even though it was a game the karma will come back around! I'm a gamecrazy employee and depending on the customer and if they are really nice or really in need if their short I almost always cover it.

whoa, missed the part where this was directed at me. Like I said, it was not a shot at you! I used to work at Game Crazy myself, so I know how crappy the company is at giving their employees a good heads up on promotions, and how difficult it can be to remember 5 new promos going on that you just found out about.
I never said I didn't like shopping at Game Crazy. I was referring to the large number of stories you hear on CAG about Game Crazy employees denying or refusing to honor a deal because they were unaware of it.

Mine still says $9... Though it still says Space Chimps for DS trades in at $13.64. :/ I'd just call GC to make sure it still trades in at that. I'm REALLY hoping it holds up until tomorrow... I'll be making trips to a bunch of the GSs in my state to see what I can find. :p
 
was able to flip 14 pipe manias and 8 steambot chronicles today. I can confirm the pipe mania's are still 9.09 tiv and steambot is still 16.xx. had to hit up 5 Gamestops and 4 Game crazys to get it done but it was a good score.

I went to a gamestop and they had two copies, so I bought both. Drove down to gamecrazy and traded them in. The guy knew what was up. He said it was his 6th trade in of the day. He also knew about this website and how people were flipping it. But he was cool about it, and I got the credit. I asked about the drumsets and guitars, but they were completely out.

I am going to go on another run tomorrow and hopefully there will be someone else working.

I am super exitced right now. My gf was able to get me 2 copies of pipe mania at one gamestop. I'm off to 2 other gamestops, and then we are going to gamecrazy for some trade in fun!

Yeah, that's really a bit overboard. If GC keeps getting raped 10 times over on these kind of flips, GC will close down completely.

Yeah, I've found 2 more flips but i'm debating not posting them until late next week. You guys need to relax. I know it's hard with this "look out for number 1" mentality. Still, I've traded in 4 copies and that was at 2 GC. I'm not trying to make GC go out of buisness later on this year. These are peoples jobs we're talking about and it would be nice to have GC stick around for a while. Just flip what you can, but try and keep it within limits. Anything above 5 copies per store is just unbeliveable and for those who used friends, you might be putting their job in jeopardy.
 
the local hollywood videos ( all the game crazys are gone) don't do trades. i got lucky and found a store that does them. but they only would take 2 copies. i had 3 in hand.

i am just trying to flip until i get enough for MW2. i need to move 3 more copies of pipemania to make that happen. but like i said, the stores are very tight about the number of copies they take in.
 
I traded one copy of Pipe Mania in earlier today, confirming the $9.09 / $10.00 value held. That was my third copy total in the past week, but only one at a time for me.

Hey , i looked around on here and didn't see anything about the game crazies that are closing down ( about 200 of them ) i drove past one today without knowing and saw a sign that said 80% off , so wanting to get something anyway i decided to stop in ... i at first thought that the 80% off sign was just a gimic , but when i walked into the store it was BARE , bare except for all the games they had smooshed together ... i could have gone insane , but i figured why bother ...

I'm with you on this Scorch. I traded 2 Pipe Manias but I kind of feel crappy about giving gamestop my good trade ins only to then further assist gamestop by moving their useless inventory to GC in exchange for quality games.

Also, after shopping a great deal at both chains over the last few weeks I came to the conclusion that I like GC better. The people just strike me as more honest and more interested in helping me find what I actually want than forcing me to sign up for preorders for other games. The only problem is that Gamestop's current extra 40% trade in promo is too good to pass up.

Although I've done a few flips including 2 copies of Pipe Mania, i think its a good call to keep flips off these threads. It's for our own good. I also like GC better than GS and we're just encouraging GC's demise. Sorta feels like the ECA fiasco where our cumulative greed ended up hurting us all in the long run more than any of the short term gains. If GC closes down completely, there will be very little competition to keep GS honest. Maybe the profit of flipping should result from doing the research and finding your own trades (including myself).

On a recent trip to Hawaii, I noticed GS there were not running the tiered trade in bonus. Atleast it didn't seem so because none of the stores there displayed the signage that you see at all stores here in CA. I thought that the lack of GC or any other corporate competition made it so that they didn't have to run trade in promos cause they are the only game in town. IMHO

I used to think GC was trying to take advantage of the customer, turns out it's the other way around. I'm really starting to like GC too, hope they can keep it together.
 
I'm really conflicted when it comes to the flips... part of me is appreciative that you guys have shared your successes (I've been able to move a few bucks from GS to GC), and another part also feels that GC is getting majorly shafted with some of the massive buttrapes that some are doing. I suppose it's inevitable that some people will take advantage of the system a little too much... see? Going in circles again. Perhaps a thread could be opened in the deal discussions forum for that type of info (like the guides thread, as an example), while this thread is used strictly for TIVs/sales/price drops/misc? It'd cut down on potential abuse and still allow CAGs to get in on deals.
 
I think people just need to not post about flipping 9 copies to one store. I know that guy helped that kid out, but trading in the 7 copies to one store doesn't even it out. He's going to end up killing the franchise and it's not doing so hot right now. They did just close down 200+ stores. People need to just limit themselves to a couple of copies per store and be happy with it. That, or stop coming here bragging about it. If this was bestbuy or GS, fuck it. They're healthy and thriving and barely ever give us a chance to flip to them.

I'm done with this topic and will be back later to make a massive TIV post for the OP to update.

Here is a small sample to get people working on.

Secret Saturday: Beasts of the 5th Sun for Wii, PSP, PS2, ds have a TIV of 16.67, 12.50, 12.50 and 12.50 at GC. They are all 17.99 used at GS (16.91 with edge and no taxes). If you can find a used Wii copy and trade it in during the extra 30% TIV promo at GC ($21.67) , you make a positive of about $5 bucks out of it.


Now combine that with the GS B2G1 free promo and you've basically got a filler game. Good luck finding it used though. There are plenty of filler games I will be posting online that basically the TIV is the same as the purchase price at GS. Combined with the 2 promos, you'll profit. It's not a lot, but it's something.
 
GameCrazy has policies in place to minimize the effect of these high TIV's. It is the 2 per title limit. Accepting a trade is also at the discretion of the manager. I have no inside knowlege of this, it is simply what I have experienced. I have been told they have to enforce the limit as well as that they have had increased volume in trade-ins and can't accept any more. This is simply an employee doing a good job for the company.

The problem arises for GC when employees don't follow policy and the fact that GC doesn't seem to detect anomalies fast enough or be able to lower TIVs fast enough in reaction to them. Employees accepting trades of 7 copies of one title are the ones acting in oppositon to the company's and their own self interest. We as consumers are simply acting in ours. That's capitalism. I do agree that exploiting these high margin TIVs will ultimately make future flips less likely either by the demise or improvement of GameCrazy. However, a few "flipping exploits" would play a very small part in either case.

That said, while I have purchased much in the last couple weeks at .30 cents on the dollar thanks to TIV tips on this site, I am probably done with it. It is just too much work, even with the flips spoonfed to you. For those of you digging these out, Kudos! If they are not shared here anymore, so be it.
 
let me get this straight you guys are upset that i am taking advantage of a company that makes it's money giving people 30 dollars for game they bought for 60 and reselling them for 50 dollars??? I think flipping is just leveling the playing field.
 
I just flipped Emma in the mountain DS (13.50/15w/mvp), Skidoo PS3 (10, 11w/mvp), and Pipe Mania ps2 (9.10/10w/mvp). I traded a total of 3 pipe mania's in this week, 1 at a time, but will not do it again. I understand that these tivs are unable to be sustained and do not want to see GC go away. I appreciate the work done here for these flips, but the abuse of a few seems to have soured a lot of people on posting future flips. This is the first time I have taken advantage of a flip and in the future, if their are more posted, I will be more thoughtful of the consequences to the store.
