SingStar PS3 - General Discussion & Info - SingStar Dance now available ...
Yeah, in the SingStore, go to 'Song Types' (or something like that), and you can choose whether to see Dance, Guitar, Rap, or Duet songs. :)
Oops, I mean't in the actual game. When SingStar Dance is popped in and she's searching thru the songs for one to play she also has to flip thru the non-Dance tracks which can be a pain.

i haven't played Singstar in months, but a whole bunch of new songs might be enough to suck me back in. thanks for sharing the good news!
Good news everyone.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010...an-track-catalog-coming-64-songs-coming-1215/
I just came.

Just kidding! Dayum indeed. Some of my songs are trapped in my old PS3 and it's a BLESSING to recover them. I thought this day would NEVER HAPPEN. :whee:

Speaking of Dance songs, I highly recommend downloading Cotton Eye Joe & Fight for this Love. The choreography is just too fun!

Just FYI, I was able to migrate 4 tracks from my old PS3 to my new one. I had to call Sony support and request it and they acted like they weren't sure they could do it, but they'd try to put it through. Almost two week later, I was able to finally re-download them on my new system.
One step in the right direction a little too late...
I'd put more of the blame on UMG just not wanting to support the SingStore. I would not be surprised if SingStar Dance releasing kind of changed their mind.

Lastly, SOME songs like by Depeche(sp) Mode will never come since WMG owns their label in the U.S. WMG still is not supporting the store, but I don't believe they are supporting any music game via digital downloads right now.
Lastly, SOME songs like by Depeche Mode will never come
Goddammit. This is all I really wanted from the European store.
This is all I really wanted from the European store.
Its all I ever wanted, all I ever needed...words are very unnecessary; they can only do harm

I put blame more on the developer. Ever wonder why they don't post updates on the playstation blog... ever wonder why a rep only shows up every blue moon to answers questions on the game on any blog or forum... where are those damn wireless mics that the EU has had for over a year... Singstar Dance just well showed up, no marketing and all...

My guess is the developer never tried to work out a contract with UMG until just recently. Just a guess based on the lack of the support from the developer these past years.

Doubtable. UMG probably just wanted too much money.

It has nothing to do with the developer and everything to do with the publisher/UMG. The developer has no say in the matter. They made the game, put it out, updated it if necessary, but as far as releasing actual songs or products that is out of their control.

The update is out and it feels underwhelming. I swore I've played most of these songs on other SS discs before. I still picked up the Kings of Leon pack and I'm debating a few more.

Edit: I didn't know you could download the free Guitar and Dance game types, then play the guitar/dance enabled tracks. That saves me from having to track down SS Dance for a while...

I'm so disappointed I didn't think of this first.

Just had thee BEST SingStar experience of my life. 13 grad students plus me sang and danced our worries away. Biggest crew was 2 singers and 8 dancers. Too epic. I need to upload some vids.

Pros and Cons about the recent SingStar changes:

+ Dance dlc. The game has become infinitely better because of this aspect, especially at parties!
+ UMG caring about US PS3 owners.
- Spending a lot of money on Dance dlc. I'm way too impulsive on buying.
- Dance/Guitar add-ons must correspond with the correct region version. So no Lady Gaga's Just Dance (UK version) with Dance add-on (US version).

They did try to work with UMG. It's just that UMG wanted FULL control over how SingStar pricing works. They threatened to pull music from iTunes unless the pricing structure was changed. That's just how UMG is, since they have the most music, they feel that digital downloads should be handled the way they want them to. Their only reason for supporting SingStar in the end (mostly in Europe) was because it has quite a large userbase. I posted TONS of articles throughout this thread about UMG.

EMI music on the other hand, they are just happy to have their music used anywhere and won't fight over money.
Goddammit. This is all I really wanted from the European store.
Mute Records (if I got the name right) is distributed by EMI in Europe, Warner Music Group in NA.

I don't expect the recent update to be all the music we will get. Queen, some Rhianna songs, etc. are still distributed by UMG in NA.

but again does it really matter. Now that the songs are on deck does it really matter why it took them so long. This is like Angry Rob admitting the VGAs are tons better than they used to be and then still trying to bash them over stuff they don't do anymore.

Boooo!!! I would have loved to see this integration, though I guess it wasn't unexpected given the DRM they use for songs.
Hey Mana Knight, apologize for the SingStar devs some more. I had been missing that when you gave up for a while.
Developers don't deal with licensing, publishers do. And since the publisher is Sony..... yeah.

Cheapest I've found (even for the mics I bought myself) was at HMV.com. They want £29.99 for the mics, so you decide to buy from them, it'll come to $46-47, plus whatever they charge for shipping. I think I've spent a little over $50 total.
Weird question... is there anyway to get the Lips (Xbox 360) mic to work with Singstar?
Never going to happen.

yeah PS3 uses bluetooth Xbox uses.. something special, proprietary and completely incompatible. By this logic I think we'd have a better chance of getting Wii wireless stuff to work. Am I remembering correctly that the Wii uses Bluetooth?

ugh.. it never occurred to me before but now this makes the whole Guitar Hero thing even more annoying. Wii guitar require you to implant a remote into the plastic. (They're not even cheaper) Why couldn't they just do it like the PS3. that's the OTHER reason I'm switching to PS3 for instrument games.

ahh. my problem with song packs is there's always ONE song i don't really want. and since the song packs only save you 50 cents I'm thinking I'm pretty much better off just buying them individually. but then if I get a new harddrive i'm sure redownloading packs would be easier than downloading everything one at a time.

boo to the gaga but two thumbs up for the video that's what we're here for.

so I didn't know there was a comment limit. that was oddly enough the longest 24 hours I've had in a while.

Two Questions:
1.) Any word on a date for a NA release for SS Motown?

2.) So i just noticed when you buy song packs you also get a medley. I think this is pretty cool and ALMOST makes up for the merely 50cent discount on song packs. My question is do you still get the medley if you buy the songs individually?

The disc itself will not be coming, but mtxbass1 is right. And you don't get the medley, as the pack is an entirely separate entity in the Singstore.

Anyone have any issues ordering the wireless mics from overseas?

I ordered some from hmv.co.uk which I frequented a lot back in the day (retail store mind you) but 5 weeks later I got nothing. Sent a bunch odd emails and nothing. Due to international charges and time difference I'm hesitant to call, but probably will sometime soon.

Bunch of crap.

I'm trying to go disc-less with SingStar. If anyone is interested in these versions, pm me and we'll work out a deal. *End public service announcement* ;)

PS2
 • SingStar '80s
 • SingStar '90s
 • SingStar Pop
 • SingStar Legends
 • SingStar Rocks!
 • SingStar Amped

PS3
 • SingStar
 • SingStar Motown (PAL version, compatible w/ US PS3)
Nothing so far. I expect that the Motown songs might just start trickling over in updates though.
if they want to give us all the songs on the disc in DLC format I can be cool with that but it better not be like other disc where 3-4 songs of the 30 are available online. Hm.. I should check that out and see what percentage of each disc is available online one day.

I LOVE the SingStar Dance add-ons! Problem is, I want to buy dance routines that are do-able and fun. For example, Hit Me Baby One More Time is way too complicated. #-o

Since the dance add-ons are still in its infancy, I've decided to create a Google Doc to track them all. Feel free to help the CAG community by contributing and rating songs. :)

StrandedBrit, do you mind placing the link in the OP? Thanks!

How does singstar dance compare to just dance?

And by the way, I'm pretty happy to see regular singstar postings on the us blog. With these larger updates there is less flaming going on...

that's crazy. I could have sworn those Bon Jovi songs were already there.. guess I was wrong. man I really need to get a US PSN card. being in Canada is annoying for this.

They are already available as a bundle, but not individually.

I have a questions. Does the DLC songs that i have already purchased before, work with singstar dance?. In other words can I play my down loadable songs from the Singstar song on singstar dance.?
