Sony PS3 3D TV/Display $299 at Best Buy Again
Its no wonder Sony is getting out of the TV business... due to cheap bastards not willing to support new innovations
Is Sony getting out of the TV industry completely? or are you just referring to this 3d ps3 display?

I haven't used this particular screen but my main TV is a 3DTV and the tradeoffs with 3D, for any price, aren't worth it. You lose brightness (due to the glasses), clarity (due to the fact games typically have to run at a reduced resolution), and often frame rate. This Sony monitor doesn't even support the NVidia or ATI flavors of 3D so you're basically stuck using it for your game consoles at sub-HD resolutions. If you need a new monitor, for the same price you're better off picking up a Dell Ultrasharp since it has a matte screen, not to mention a really nice picture.

I consider $300 to be the regular price for this package. For $200 it would be cheap.

pretty much tv in general.....

but this generally do not help either
That doesn't mean they are not going to sell TVs. It just says they are selling their stake in the plant that makes the panels which was a joint venture with samsung, but will still buy the same panels from samsung (or other companies) to put in their displays and brand as sony.
As for those expecting it to hit 199......I highly doubt it. I understand this is a forum for cheap ass people but you should be ashamed of yourself. No but really.....just buy it
 Three hundred bucks is a ton of cheap Gamefly games or at least 5 MSRP launch date titles(or a shitton of cheap TRU/Target/Sears clearance games).

When thinking of it that way, it makes a lot less sense to wanna plunk down this much on a monitor, especially when I still have a 21" monitor that does the job just as fine as this display. Only thing my monitor is missing is the 3-D thing and quite frankly I don't EVER see myself playing games in 3-D unless they get rid of the migraine inducing portions of the technology.:booty:

Not to mention I paid 1/7th the price of this thing for the monitor. Sony+affordable+reasonably priced=does not compute

Just curious, i have 2 general 3d questions. Is it a bad experience using the 3d glasses if you wear regular glasses and whats better this(active shutter) or passive. Thanks

Damn, so you paid around $43 for your 21", i'm guessing it was on clearence somewhere, which mean's it was probably like $100 retail. That must be one pos monitor cheapo.

It's an Acer brand and I believe the original price in store(Target) was like $160-ish. It's 1080p and while some folks will obviously say that there's no benefit to full HD at that size I beg to differ.

Then again, I sat about 4-5 feet from it at most and I had upgraded from a 20" SDtv, so it was a marked improvement in picture quality(to me anyway). :)

But yeah, I got it for a final price of around $40 plus tax by doing a return/rebuy at a further off Target that had it at 75% off of MSRP.;)

When 3D porn becomes more widely available.... Im going to hear alot of you guys change your tune about these 3d tvs..

Just like VCRs, Camcorders, HD Tv, it is the porn industry that will generate the push toward these technology

I suggest you put on contacts or go without glasses when using 3d function otherwise you just look like a dork:booty:

Porn is overrated imo.:booty:

Nice to see this price drop again, this could work as a TV if you use an HDMI input from your cable box. Still, issues with this monitor:

1- Contrast ratio of 8,000:1 (unlike factory that states 5,000:1) is too low, plus the colors are a bit on the cool side.
2- Since this is a monitor it does not have a remote, so if you utilize this as a TV then you should hook the power cable to the cable box.

I'd list the size as an issue but as a monitor 24" is large enough, I might acquire this for when I move and actually use it as a monitor for my laptop, hopefully by then it will have dropped further in price and maybe even reports of a new model will appear.

I think contrast ratio ratings are sort of a joke - right? I think every company rates it differently and I believe it is just placed on the spec sheet to impress the consumer.
Ridiculous question but, anyone knows of this TV fits on a standard luggage? I plan to travel soon, so it would be nice to have a good TV with me.
Sounds like you need this.

Has anyone used this with a component hub? Reason I ask is this would be a nice upgrade if I could just swap out my existing setup with no issue. Said setup being a psONE, gamecube, Dreamcast, Saturn, and Xbox running through a hub to a 20" CRT. And of course a PS3...which is why I'm considering this deal. Thanks in advance.

For those on the fence, I bought this during the Christmas week sale and don't regret it one bit. I use it for my PS3, 360, and my gaming PC. Compared to the ASUS VH series 21.5" TN panel I had been using for all 3, it's a major upgrade across the board.

On the PS3, I've only played GT5 in 3D and think it's fantastic; for 360, my test software has been Halo Anniversary, which also impresses. BF3, SC2, and Deus Ex all look great in 2D coming from my PC, but I have yet to attempt playing anything in 3D using my AMD 6970 video card.

I've heard people complain that text looks blurry on the PC using this monitor, but I can't confirm it; everything looks perfectly fine to me in-game, and I don't use the attached machine for web browsing etc.

My personal opinion? For $499, I would have been extremely upset with myself. $299 feels like a fair price for what you get.

I have no doubt that these will end up $199 very soon. I believe this was a seasonal bundle, so at some point in time they will clearance them out. Heck, they may even be $149 before it's said and done. I know my local Best Buy still has at least 2 dozen of these taking up space out on the middle of the game section. Nobody is buying them.

Either Best Buy's buyer was the most gullible person on the planet or Sony's rep to Best Buy is the most amazing salesperson on the planet.
Either Best Buy's buyer was the most gullible person on the planet or Sony's rep to Best Buy is the most amazing salesperson on the planet.
That is what I was thinking, best buy seems to be swimming in these things.

They are also tempting me but I keep fighting it hopeing for a sub $250 price.
ya, people waiting for 199 are kidding themselves. Somewhat comparable 3d PC monitors can be as high as 400-450 bucks and don't include a game. Like this samsung. The cheapest 3d monitor would probably be the passive LG for 250+. This wont be 199 for a while.
The PS display is much more of a 3D TV (minus the tuner) than a 120 hz PC monitor. The latter is desirable because it can actually take a 120 hz input and play PC games at 120 fps, whereas TVs are limited to 60 hz input. Also, this display has input lag similar to other 3D TVs, while most PC monitors are practically lagless.

The only reason to get this display is if you need a quick fix in 3D console gaming. It isn't a bad deal as it also comes with glasses. Still, there's bound to be some cheap 32" 3D TVs that are better than this in the near future.

Thanks OP. got a bunch of best buy gift cards for Xmas and have been waiting for this to go back on sale. I actually fit into the demographic for this display. I have a 50" panasonic in my living room with my ps3 and my 360 hooked up to it. In my office I have my 2011 MacBook pro hooked up to a VGA switch box to a 19" dell LCD monitor for dual display along with my old dreamcast with VGA adapter, another Xbox 360, and ps3. I'm going to replace the dell monitor with this display. I just hope I don't have handshake issues with my MacBook pro via hdmi to the ps3 display. From what I see online, there are a lot of issues with using it as a monitor for dual display for Mac and windows.

I just bought one of these monitors yesterday and played Rock Band on my 360 with it for about 3 hours. During this time span the monitor did the "random black out" twice. There is a huge thread about this issue in the Sony forums but there doesnt seem to be a fix. I warn everybody who plans on buying this monitor to proceed with caution. I'm very disappointed because the picture looks amazing but these random blackouts are enough aggrevation for me to return it and get a full refund especially because a ton of people have the same problem. Appears to be a design or manufacturing defect.

Why the heck do you guys think it will be $199? That's too low. Just because it is $299 now doesn't mean it will drop to $199

How long is this on sale for? Got like $150 in credit and would consider trading in a few items to make up some of the difference. But then id need a 2nd pair of glasses for the lady

When you guys say this lacks a tuner, is it possible to use one of those digital convertor boxes to grab the over-the-air TV signals and input it to this monitor?

i was upset i missed out on the black friday deal when i saw a pile of them at best buy a week later...

now that the price returned - there is no doubt in my mind this will hit the $200-250 area within a month or so in which i would jump on the deal immediately.

i sent this to amazon to see if they'd price match, atleast so i can avoid tax if i pay $299, but if not oh well.

If it has HDMI or Component outputs, then yes.

Almost certainly that would work since those just plug in through the RCA jacks.

FYI, there is not co-ax on this one so something to keep in mind if you need to to work with a standard cable jack fro normal TV viewing.

I have $110 in Reward Zone certificates. I think I'm going to bite.

I thought about saving the money and putting it towards replacing my 50" plasma with a 3D one. Thing is I'd then have to replace my receiver as well and that all seems like too much work. I think this little 24" TV will be my 3D fill for the the next couple years.

They are showing 50" OLED screens at CES. Maybe they will be affordable in a couple years.

Just bought one of these on Sat, looks like I will be going in to price match. So far its been a pretty sweet moniter havent done any of the 3d yet. I think 299 is a pretty solid price considering you get glasses and a game, without those it prob would go down to 199. Im still hoping for some support from nvidia for there 3dvision..

I bought a Toshiba Thrive tablet for almost nothing that needed to be flashed. Hoping a guy at work can fix it for me, if so, I'm gonna sell that on eBay and get one of these to use for my laptop games.

only thing keeping me from getting one of these is the size... i've been pc gaming on a 37" LCD and my console gaming on a 55" LED

if it was 32" or larger i'd pick one up...

I finally picked one up today.

It's good but not perfect. The 3D is a bit dark, and the glasses aren't comfortable (of course you could spend more money on a different pair of a different brand). There's also no remote control for it.

Thankfully, the picture is great (at least in 2D mode) and I didn't have any dead pixel issues on mine, the unit looks very nice and is VERY slim, very easy to put the stand on it, and the screen size is perfect for me.

LG has some dual-view displays they just announced @ CES. Looks like there's ~25 different models this year that will support it. Uses passive glasses too (WAY cheaper).
I have a feeling these Sony's are going to see another price drop shortly after CES as we start to see more choices in the size department.

Would this be good for laptop gaming? My laptop is decent but the screen isn't all that good.

Or should I just hook it up to my 55" 3D via hdmi? I figured playing up close would make it more immersive

It won't do 3d on your pc, 2d should be fine though

Don't get this unless your main goal is to do 3D gaming on your PS3. Just get a real PC monitor if laptop gaming is mainly what you plan on doing.

Your 55" TV might not be ideal either. Almost all big screen LCD TVs have input lag, sharpening issues, and do not support 4:4:4 chroma. If you have a plasma then you'll have to worry about burn in and blurry fonts. These things may not bug you so try it out.

I bought one of these the last time it was 300. The picture is pretty nice and all, but there is a issue with the blackout during gameplay, at least for me though it only happens when I have it connected to the computer and am playing The Old Republic. The PS3 I have not had a single problem playing for very long periods too. I've heard others having issues with their PS3s though, maybe it's just the hdmi1? who knows, just thought I'd leave some info to look into if you decide you'd like to try and buy this.
