I got an email from Sony Style this morning - they're selling refurbished 40GB PS3 for $220

Seems like a weak deal to me. Better off paying more for the Slim. Brand new unit, more hard drive space, and less energy consumption.

40 GB is not BC, the 20, 60 and original 80 GB were PS2 BC.

Not a good deal unless you're someone who absolutely needs to have the ability to install Linux on to your PS3.

I would advise everyone to stay away from these refurbished units. My new 60gb had the "ylod" hardware failure less than 2 years later. I can only imagine the risk is even greater when you purchase a refurbished 20gb, 60gb, 40gb, and 80gb(bc) units. If anything the newer skus 80gb, 160gb, and 120gb units should be more reliable. Personally I would go with a new slim.
