Something tells me we'll be seeing the same thing for Stadia in a couple of years.
Honestly, I don't know who streaming video game services are for... The poor who wouldn't spend the money for internet speeds that are latency free (if that's even possible) or those who are well enough off that they frown at the of trying to play a game with so much latency...

I might use it as a means of demoing games prior to actually purchasing them. But outside of something turn-based like XCOM, I'd never want to use the service to play through a game from start to finish. Streaming AC Odyssey in a browser a few months back was impressive but the latency was still undeniably noticeable and annoying.

I'd have said the same thing prior to playing with project stream. I thought PS Now and other services like that were dumb because i already had a PS3, why stream an inferior overpriced version of a game i can get cheaply... I know it comes down to each individual's experience but with my 60mbps dl i had very little lag when playing Odyssey nearly to completion during the stream trial. It impressed the hell out of me and delivered well above what my PC could do normally.

Entry costs for *good* pc gaming can be really high and to keep up with the latest tech and games it only keeps going. Streaming eliminates those hardware costs completely (assuming you're not buying a new tv/device specifically for game streaming). I picked up a cheap refurb 1060 not too long ago so i'm not in the dire situation i was, but the streaming is still going to run on a more powerful GPU than what I've got and crank out a higher framerate at higher settings.

I understand too Google's tendency to develop things and then abandon them, but this seems way too easy to make money with for them. Think about if someone is watching a youtube video on a game and there's a little 'Play' button in the corner. Two clicks and 30 seconds later Google has your cash and you're playing the game on the same screen you were just watching videos on. Or if they go to a gamepass style subscription service they already have your money and you're more likely to buy DLC because you didn't 'pay' for the game.

We'll have to see how well they can get this working and what kind of requirements it'll have, but with Google's considerable spending power and with them, MS, Sony and others all jumping into the streaming space it's only a matter of time before somebody nails it.

I have friends that want to get into PC gaming but they can't be bothered "dealing" with hardware, patches, etc. I'm assuming Stadia is geared towards the same population. I just don't get how Stadia's service will be far superior than all the other companies that have attempted doing the exact same shit before.

They explained it in the thing. They have the pipes other people don't have and these pipes will connect and make fast.

AMD's way (aka a complete and total lack of any semblance of reason/logic) of handling this code redemption/key distribution fiasco truly boggles my mind. I can't fathom what must go on behind the scenes of such a moronic cluster fuck. Getting the RE2 code was frustrating enough, but now to possibly (I say possibly since I've gotten no response or additional communication on my tickets) have to wade through the same horseshit again... just the thought of it really exhausts me. AND, even after they've already given one game, if I send them all the shit they ask me for and still deny me Div2, I might just come unglued on them via social media (like that even matters, but still).

I, honestly, try to stay open minded on hardware and if something is truly a better value, as a cheap SoB, I will pursue it, but after this ordeal, I cannot wait to never fuck with AMD again. I don't care if they're bundling the cure for cancer with their GPUs/CPUs, and that's the ONLY way to get it, I'll just fuck ing die. I'm sure I'm probably in the minority, but goddamn this is some dumbassery. The only thing that makes sense to me is: they oversold their estimated allotment of keys, probably because they've consistently dropped the price on the bundled cards, and are scrambling to deny anyone they can since they'll now have to come out of pocket, to Ubi and Capcom, in some way to fulfill the remainder of the promised games.

Sorry to hear some of you still haven't gotten your Div 2 codes. Seems to be random as to who has and who hasn't. I redeemed a code for Syntax over 2 weeks before Neuro, but Neuro got theirs while Syntax didn't. Maybe it has something to do with the original source of the code (e.g. Amazon, AMD, Newegg, etc.)...
Thanks again for the help when I got the code months ago seems I was lucky enough to get the games, I did end up buying a cheap Rx 580 a couple weeks later and have been using it ever since

Took me around 22 hours approximately, but Far Cry 5's main quest-line has been completed. Really enjoyed the game for its actual setting, the actual missions (story and main stuff), and especially the sandbox.

That's even despite the ending so leaving it open & setting it up majorly for a sequel (i.e. FC: New Dawn).

Gradius, Gradius 2, and Life Force plus Super Castlevania IV and Castlevania 3 on Steam?  I can emulate all of these anytime I want and I'll still buy them if they are good ports just because it is slightly more convenient.  Yay nostalgia + idiocy!   I hope they sell well and they do a collection with Gradius 3, 4, 5 and Gradius Gaiden.  I love me some Gradius.  Wish they would make a new  one.

Also port all of the GBA/DS Castlevania games, please.  And I hope SotN is added to that Castlevania collection.   And Rondo of Blood.  And probably Bloodlines.  Actually just release everything from the PS2 era and before on Steam, Konami.  Not too much to ask.

Hopefully, we also get Old School Metal Gear Collection (Metal Gear NES, Snake's Revenge NES, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) and a MGS Collection (MGS1 to 4).

EDIT:

Might as well ask for a Silent Hill collection too - especially to include the stuff that never hit PC.

Jebbus Konami, Shut up and take my money.I never thought we would see Konami giving their fans what they want. The GBA and DS castlevania games, plus rondo and sotn, and bloodlines, and the arcade konami games, plus the mgs games, plus the contra series, just shut up and take my money.

I'll probably wait for a steam sale and just buy them all that way. I encourage everyone to buy these so that Konami makes more of them.

I also bought that 13 dollar gta v with the social starter pack for 13$, it's 80 GB, bigger than I would have thought, but it's downloading pretty fast.

If these Castlevania/Contra collections somehow don't include the Genesis games, I'll assume Konami has no intention of ever re-releasing them at this point.

Sounds like Outer Worlds and Heavy Rain (Yes, the Quantic Dreams PS3 game) are both going to be Epic Store exclusives.

Also, the Crypt of the Necrodancer + Legend of Zelda crossover looks nuts:

That's pretty much all Konami and Capcom have done for most of the last decade. They make money re-releasing their back catalogue of old titles, and doing lazy ports or annual iterations. These companies have struggled mightily with adapting to modern game development during the PS3/360 gen. It wasn't until the last two years that Capcom finally started putting out new games again. Capcom is finally back on track making massively wonderful video games. Konami, on the other hand, has given the middle finger to their video gaming division and won't pay to produce new games anymore. They make pachinko machines and mobile games now. Konami is also known for treating their employees poorly and being anti-gamer in general. Look at all their characters and IPs that they have let languish. Every corporation's job is to make money but Konami was into video game development solely for profit.

Don't care about the rest of those games, but Outer Worlds going schl-Epic (that's probably not as funny as in my mind) exclusive really gives me a red ass. Feeling like this procompetitionistism is going to drive me towards more gaming on my peasant boxes.

Some other games announced as EGS-exclusive:

Control (Remedy)

Industries of Titan (Crypt of the Necrodancer devs)

Afterparty (Oxenfree devs)

The Cycle (Spec Ops: The Line devs)

Small correction: The Outer Worlds won't be Epic exclusive on PC.

You'll also have the chance to buy it from the W10 Store.

Well, hell, I guess I'll have to install the damn Epic store thing after all. I was really thinking I could avoid it. I mean, I guess I could wait 12 months to buy new stuff, but by the time 12 months have gone by will I even remember that those games existed?

I'm fairly surprised to hear that Quantic Dream stuff is coming to PC, but I'm looking forward to getting a PC copy of Detroit, as I do not currently own a PS4.

https://www.pcgamer.com/the-epic-store-wont-accept-crappy-games-says-ceo-tim-sweeney/

The Epic Store won't accept 'crappy games,' says Tim Sweeney

Earlier this week, I asked Epic CEO Tim Sweeney how Epic will decide what does and doesn't get to be published on the Epic Store. He began by explaining that the Unreal Engine side of Epic and the publishing side of Epic have "very different policies."

"The side of Epic that makes creative tools like the Unreal Engine available to everybody says that you can use our tools for creating anything that's legal, and we have no creative say in it—we can't veto, whether we find it controversial or tasteful or not," he said. "That applies to the Unreal Engine, because we see it like Microsoft Word. How insane would it be if Microsoft Word's EULA said 'you cant write this set of ideas in our word processing software?' We don't go there."

When it comes to what Epic itself puts into the world via the Epic Games Store, however, Sweeney said that Epic will apply quality standards "similar to what a movie theater might apply as to what movies they show."

"We'll have a quality standard that doesn't accept crappy games," he said. "We'll accept reasonably good quality games, of any scale, whether small indie games to huge triple-A games, and we'll take everything up to, like, an R-rated movie or an M-rated game. A GTA game would be fine to us, but Epic's not going to distribute porn games or bloatware or asset flips, or any sort of thing that's meant to shock players. The PC's an open platform and if we don't distribute it in our store you can still reach consumers directly."

Damn, 4 good devs there. Nice to know that The Outer Worlds is also coming to the only store worse than Epic's.

Guess I'll just download them from... Somewhere else and buy them when they come to Steam.

Also, knowing Konami, you'd probably just be better off with ROMs than those collections.

Top shelf games only at Epic. What games? Top... shelf. Features? Forums? A UI with a search function? Decent security for credit card transactions? Not important. Top notch games, exclusively at Epic is what matters.

Detroit Become Human and quality? They'd be far smarter to put that game on as many stores as possible.

...but I'm looking forward to getting a PC copy of Detroit, as I do not currently own a PS4.
One benefit of owning a PS4, demos. But hey, Humble has partnered with Epic EXCLUSIVELY PRO-Competitive so maybe we'll get a bundle or monthly deal, in a year. Where detroit deserves to be.

It’s Konami, they’ll figure out a way to fuck it up. There isn’t a publisher out there that hates its properties more.

Quality and Fortnite don't go in the same sentence.

Any-hooo.  Considering I rarely buy games within the first year of launch then I can't say this affects me much overall.  Unless Humble starts only giving Epic keys.

I wish I could, even in the vaguest definition of the word, trust Sweeney/Epic/their communist overlords owners with my business, but it's too bad that Tim looks like a mix between 80's Jeffrey Combs and those guys that are court ordered to stay no less than 100 yards away from areas where children congregate. You know the ones.

I've been playing Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition. Better treatment than I'd expect it to get from Konami anyway, especially after the PS3/360 collection.
