I'm not sure how much power a 960 requires but Nvidia-wise that's probably your ceiling.
Here's the 4GB EVGA GeForce 960 SuperClocked requirements straight from the box:

  • 400 Watts PSU minimum**
  • Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, or 8.1
  • PCI-E 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 compliant mobo w/ one graphics slot
  • One 6-pin PCI-E power connector or two available hard disk power connectors.
** = Minimum suggested PSU requirement based on PC with an Intel core i7 at 3.2 Ghz.

And of course those are completely bullshit/made up just like your other techno babble.

The Strix even uses a bit more wattage versus the shitty EVGA model too.

The system with the 970 doesnt even use 400 watts.

It's best to pretend the App Store in Windows 10 doesn't exist. Why the hell would I want to play Asphalt 8 on my PC when there's Burnout Paradise on Steam, which isn't straddled by mobile fremium design elements.
You can play Wordament or Snap Attack though, which are both awesome!

I think this is it. This is the point where the goddamn genre jumped the shark.
Sometimes I stop following this thread for days at a time.

I wish this was one of those times.

I hate breaking in a new monitor. All the colors need adjusting, it never looks level and there's no fuck ing remote. Life's hard.
Whatcha get? How much VRAM does it have?

My 8GB of VRAM on my 390X has been awesome for the clicker games I've played since I bought it.

I started playing DOTA2 today. Holy crap is it a lot more involved in comparison to the other MOBAs I have played. Which of you master race bastards are decent at it and want to teach (carry) me?

Does my monitor have VRAM?

EDIT:

Does anyone recommend just going right into Win 10? Is it THAT spectacular? I'd hate for some of my porn porn to be non-backwards compatible.
I cant say I recommend it, but I have no reason to dissuade you from doing it. I jumped in last night when it became available and have had no compatibility problems at all. I went from 8.1 to 10 and everything was where I left it and it was basically like a long restart except now I have the 10 bells and whistles. There are a few things that immediately jump out as positives, no negatives yet.

How are any modern games running in Win 10?

Any better? Worse? Same?

I havent played much yet. Im playing a lot of Castlevania Mirror of Fate, but its played everything Ive thrown at it so far or at least that I had installed prior to the upgrade. Crap like TF2 also played fine. Id say the same, but I dont foresee there being really discernible differences from 8.1 to 10 in terms of gameplay right now.

I have the beta but haven't fired it up yet. Does account progress/unlocks save back and forth between the 2?

I'm going to finish the tutorial now that my wife dragged the brats off to bed. I'm most of the way through reading this guide that people recommended. I also tossed in $10 of GabeN bucks towards The International and bought the Compendium. I still have to do a bit of research on this as well to see if I can manage some free unlocks.

I've been running the Win 10 beta for several weeks now and it's been stable and pretty much just like the current release version. Tried a bunch of games and no issues here with anything. It's basically just like being on 8 but with some extra UI stuff here and there.

I did have one friend on Steam claim that GTA V ran terribly for him on Win 10 and he ended up going back to 8, but he also noted he has an AMD card and AMD has not been that great at making drivers for it.

Nvidia here and I've noticed they've pushed several updates for Win 10 drivers on Nvidia over the past few weeks and can't say that I've had any issues at all.

Edited to add: If you do the upgrade from 8 option (I did) it does retain your Win 8 setup for some time and allows you to revert back should you find you have problems. I haven't encountered any myself however.

Lifehacker has a good method for doing a clean install of Win10 Upgrade.

edit: this is the correct article on cleaning leftover hard disk space, post install.

Sometimes nerds just make shit too complicated. I just did the install right on top of Win 8. Didn't back anything up but it automatically saves a recovery point so you can roll back to Windows 8 just as it was when you did the update if you decide to. I had no reason to do that but it was nice that the option was there.

Anyway it's just super easy to do that way, didn't even feel like an OS upgrade that but more like a patch.

I know nerds would have a shitfit about that and consider it a dirty install or whatever but I haven't had any issues at all and I'm glad I did it this way instead of fussing and doing backflips and spending a lot of time on it.

The whole install process is pretty foolproof.  I tried installing it on my shitty, dying laptop twice and both times the thing overheated and shut down and Windows just reverted back to Windows 8 upon start up with no effect on my files.  So I think for the vast majority of people it should be fine.  I'm sure some people will have issues, but that happens with everything in life.

I got an error something similar to this:

"Could not install Windows 10.

(some alpha numerics I don't remember)

The installation was not successful. In the FIRST_BOOT phase an error... blah blah"

So I am going to save this shit for another time. Good night and good luck, ladies and gentlemen.

Thanks for your opinion Motoki. ;)
You're welcome. And by the way that Lifehacker guide is old as shit and outdated from the early beta days. The stuff it says about needing external media to recover and not being able to downgrade etc is obsolete because they added idiot proof easy restore point recovery in case shit goes wrong or someone hits the panic button later on into the beta after they wrote that article.

Hey thanks, I linked the wrong article. I meant to link this one. ...it's actually just a menu option.

heh, okay that makes more sense now. And for anyone deleting all that old install info just be absolutely sure you are staying on Windows 10 if you do that because it makes the Win 7/8 restore point/roll back option go away since you'll essentially be deleting all that backup info.

I ended up doing that but I waited a little bit to make sure I really wanted to stay on Windows 10 before I did that.

oh my god, installed windows 10, booted up dying light, AND MY TRAINER WOULDN'T WORK!!! i had to download a different trainer, which then worked. how can i play Dying light without my one hit kills and infinite stamina? it's official, windows 10 is truly a nightmare!

not sure why ppl install Win 10 and bitch about it?

What was your expectation? Win 10 would make ur breakfast or something? Or make ur games faster?  I doubt it.

look, if u want to try something new and feel adventurous, then install it.  If not, then stick with whatever OS ur currently using. It would save ur time, effort and ur sanity.

given M$ release record, wait until SP1 for Win10 for the OS to mature and be usable.
