Valve Is Changing Steam Sales

"games will just be at their lowest prices for the duration of the sale. No daily deals or flash sales, whatsoever. After rumblings that Valve will be changing the way it conducts Steam sales for the upcoming autumn and winter sales, Eurogamer confirmed it by way of a notice Valve sent out to Steam developers and publishers" (kotaku)

What the...?

Did we know about this...?
yes

Dark Souls was hardcore for not pausing during accessing menus. With Assassin's Creed Syndicate Ubisoft takes this step further and doesn't pause during loading screens.

Yes, you can absolutely die (well 'desynchronize') during loading screen.

I guess Valve is trying to cut-down on glitch opportunities. :p

If one-price is set at start of sale, less glitches will happen!

This means, I don't have to buy stuff ASAP or on an impulse, afraid a deal won't come back. I can wait til close to the end and see if anyone else wants to match Valve or beat them.

Though, I do wonder if say someone decides to best Valve on an on-going deal, if Valve will switch the price and match or best someone else. If Valve did a price-switch, I guess Valve could refund the difference in say Steam Wallet GabenFunBux to those who bought too early; which might be a lot of work for them and we know how Valve Support works in Valve time. They probably won't price-switch if someone tops them during the sale - b/c that might piss off a lot of people, who bought early on in the sale.

If anyone MysterD wants a box copy of the old ass Freelancer game it's going to be on lighting deal in about a half hour so 7AMPST/10AMEST on Amazon. No idea how much but the regular price is $17.77.

http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000NJFMR4/ref=gbph_img_m-3_8982_222f8b10

It says it's a Prime Early Access deal so I'm guessing it's going live to Prime members first and then if there's anything left the masses get their sloppy seconds.
MysterD already owns retail copy of Freelancer PC.

If anyone for some reason doesn't own Freelancer PC, they should. Freelancer is basically, more or less, Morrowind: The Space Sim. StarLancer (much more linear) and Freelancer (way more open-world in space) were basically my first real space-sims and actually got me very interested into the genre. Very accessible; lots of fun; tons of action; and still runs great on W7.

Hmmm. I should install it on my crummy W10 laptop. It probably could run it, I'd guess.

Okay it's $12.97, like $5 off. Shipping is free if you have prime but still, eh.

"Meh" at $13 for an old game.

I think I paid like $20 for it, not too long after release - i.e. after a few months.

EDIT:

Microsoft really should re-release Freelancer on GOG, Steam, W10 Store, and any other digital channels.

Freelancer looks like something I'd get from playfirebay
I would except then I'd feel compelled to play it if I went to all the trouble to click through 40 porno popups and download the damned thing. I wish it would come to Steam so I could buy it and then ignore it forever.

I want to slap anyone talking crap about Freelancer.  It certainly wasn't Privateer but it was a pretty decent game.  Fast Forward 10+ years and expect to sell it for $15 is LOL worthy.

So I can't be bothered to sift through all the console faff.  Are there going to be any decent Black Friday deals on PC games at Amazon or wherever?

Any good hardware deals coming up for BF?  I need a large, fast, quiet hard drive.  4 TB or bigger.  Might also splurge on more RAM if I see a good deal

aye, not going to lie.......I'm dying for an internal 6tb hard drive deal. For some reason lately all the internal hard drives are like 20-40 dollars more than the externals. It's silly. I already have the external for backup but now I'm trying to find an internal. (Yes I could be an external and open it up to use the drive but it voids the warranty. I only do that when out of warranty)

What stores do you have near you? Or are you doing online only? I'm sure Amazon and Newegg are going to have good deals, but Microcenter and Frys will be places to go too. Right now in their pre-BF deals Newegg has a 3TB WD Red for $99.99. Fry's is going to have a 4TB Seagate for $88 on Friday or a $88 4GB HGST on Thursday. I think the Seagate is in store only but the HGST will be online with voucher.

Unfortunately, there are no Fry's or Microcenters in my neck of the woods. Which leaves pretty much only Best Buy. So online it is. I think WD or Seagate only, as I don't trust any other brands. And I'm only after 7200 RPM drives.

I know some stores leak their sales in advance. Was hoping to catch wind of something too good to pass up.

EDIT - and I am not the type to try to beat the crowds on BF. Much prefer to order comfortably online.

The games that I download take-up too so much HDD space.

And I ain't even downloaded all 1000+ of my Steam + Origin games!!!!

Some of these newer AAA titles take up 30-50GB, for crying out loud.

Really, if I'm being honest, it's to install Steam games that will be ignored.  But I feel better knowing they are ready if I ever want to .... play them.

Microcenter will usually have deals online as well

Also if you got usb3 ports theres nothing wrong with using an external for normal use. For the longest time I used an external 3tb usb3 for my game install drive. I also wouldnt worry about it too much if you miss them or they are in store only. Much like games, once you see that lowest price you know thats what they are willing to sell it for, so chances are you can find it for that same price again online within a month somewhere (one of the many reasons going anywhere for BF is just plain dumb, theres no deals worth that and the deals that are there have either been that price before, will be again shortly, or its a complete piece of shit to get you in the door)

I had enough hard drive space before I started hanging around in this thread.
I do a lot of this, as well - download Steam-game; it's in backlog; who knows when or even if I'll play it.

If a game has DLC's or a Season Pass that I'm missing, I likely won't even think of uninstalling the game until I get all of the content; especially if it's huge in size.

I also have a problem w/ even uninstalling games I've already finished; again, especially if they're big in size.

Always be careful when buying stuff from Fry's. They used to frequently take returns that had been opened and just re-shrinkwrap and put it back on the shelf.

Categorize? I aint got time for that.

I think the Hitachi will be online too. Microcenter hasn't posted their BF ad yet but they sell stuff online too.

I also avoid BF crowds usually.

Between movies, music, and games I have a 2TB drive at about 75% full.

Yeah, I find that if you deal hunt you can find the same or better pricing either online on BF (without having to go to the store) or in the weeks before or after BF. Sometimes you might pay a little more, but don't need to deal with the hassle. That said, sometimes BF is about the experience and not necessarily the deals.

If I'm not actively playing a game I uninstall it. Takes maybe 30 min to download the biggest of AAA titles.
I used to do that in Seattle, here in Atlanta Comcast has a 300GB bandwidth limit each month so at the risk of sounding like a Russian, I have to be careful about what I DL or I get charged overages.

I guess this is kinda a Steam deal.

Yesterday I bought a solar powered bluetooth speaker from Amazon and they offered me an $80 Amazon gift card if I applied for an Amazon Visa Card. I ended up getting the speaker for free with over $20 left in Amazon credit.

You may be able to apply for a card and get the same deal when you buy a digital download.

This is as much a steam deal as ur faec is

Amazon ALWAYS hassles me to apply for a credit account and offers some $80-$100 credit for doing so.  I assume the credit is contingent upon me keeping the account open for however many months and I don't need/want another line of credit so I always pass.

Speaking of, one of my credit card banks keeps sending me emails saying they can increase my limit by 5k.  Offering to lower my APR as an enticement to use my card more often seemingly hasn't occurred to them.

That's because MOST people are idiots and would fall for the former rather than the latter. Pisses me off to most ends. Same reason when you call technical support they make you redo everything you've already tried/thought of... because the average idiot would fail to notice things like power lights and on/off buttons.
