This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

Mafia II was great unless you were just looking for GTA 1955.  In which case I guess it was less great.

Mafia III looks... like something I can wait on.  I'll be honest and say I just want my Mafia stories in the Godfather/Goodfellas/Casino vein and Mafia III looks to be all about NOT doing that.   So I'll wait for it to be on a $5 sale or wait for reviews saying it's the best thing since sliced bread before picking up a copy.

Technically, its a closed beta as its invite only. :) (Though with an easy invite process via preorder.)

As to why there is a wait..? They obviously didn't plan for the number of testers that showed up and didn't have as many servers live at the start. Publishers always seem to aim low on the amount of servers needed... Its one of the reasons why online games always seem to have a rough start. Also it could be because no one can trust Ubisoft when it comes to reveal E3 footage (which is true), its a game that very little info out in the open (also true), and, like I said, it was really easy to get a code even in its closed state as Amazon provides beta codes for free with their preorder policy. Also there could be a chance people are sticking around and playing allot of hours in the beta... I played allot more than I thought I would.

All in all its not necessarily a bad thing... I myself have not seen any major bugs, and nothing I would consider critical even on a minor level, I've also not see any server issues either. I turned on the FPS counter yesterday (via the uplay software itself) and my frames have been damn steady. All in all its been very solid. Granted, "beta" is a misused term since the game comes out in 5 weeks. (Can hardly blame Ubisoft for it though... Everyone missuses it in this day in age.)

Now I do suspect I've seen some hacking, though not in the level 8 PVP zone (seems like allot of people are playing it right even though there isn't anything for them left to do), as I saw one DZ (PVP/PVE area) littered with people wielding RPGs but I've never seen an RPG drop via loot or via pickup, but there's no anti cheating software engaged right now... (Allot of people think Ubisoft isn't showing their hand in regards to this and might be curious to see what people pull off hacking wise anyways... Hell, not allot of punishment going on right now considering everyone got in for free so I'm all for them dropping the banhammer when people have spent money on the game.)

These reviews are seriously making me want to get a copy of the game, but I don't want to drop that much cash, especially since I have a sneaking feeling there will be an Enemy Within-style expansion at some point. Firaxis is like Bethesda with the DLC. Guess I'll have to go play EW again to try and hold me over until the inevitable GotY edition this fall.

Sadly, GMG could have had an easy sale this morning but (maybe luckily) the code for 27% off expired today. (seeing 20% off a few locations... Guess I'll wait a few days and see what shakes out.)

Yes. I signed up when the Division was announced, I didn't get in the first day of the beta (PC).

one advice, if u are planning to play solo n head into the dark zone, don't trust any1 unless they are in ur group, since there are no friendly fires.
because it is the 4 th day of the beta, alot of people had gotten familiar with meta, are are geared up pretty well.

since literally not much to do. they have resorted to griefing and becoming rogue for the payout by suriving the timer. extraction zone is a hot spy for campers, so don't reveal urself until the helicopter arrives to pick up the item.

inmate got killed a few times, because he let his guard down.

it is quite easy actually do some of the encounters, n establish ur base of operation, n that that one hopsital msission main mission

I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately, with all the great reviews, I'm guessing we're going to see the discounts dry up as retailers start trying to cash in on that sweet pre-release hype. We need a $.99 glitch for this.

RE: The Division. (Sorry I had no idea I had this much to say about it)  
My gf and I played it last night for about 7 hours. I hope they did remove the random NPC/mob encounters for the beta because running through the empty streets go old rather fast. I'm not looking for Suikoden levels of random-ass battles but it definitely felt like it needed more shooting/combat.

I would have gotten a lot more done on my own, but my gf was in her inventory after every fight/loot comparing this kneepads and backpacks like crazy. She also changed primary weapons and re-modded them abut 18 times. :sigh: When she discovered the appearance tab and how many coats and pants she had found I got up and tended the woodstove and split some firewood for 20 mins.

On the other hand, not playing with a friend probably would have bored me very quickly since there wasn't many thugs to fight.

Anyway, we did all the missions and side missions and 95% of the encounters and then went into the darkzone. I did enjoy the NPC fights in the DZ but felt they needed to add a lot more there as well. We extracted some loot a few times, thought someone was trying to steal our stuff the second time and chased him off. Turns out he just wanted to extract as well so we didn't have to cap him after all. Got into a firefight with a couple of red-skull tagged players right after we had extracted (they attacked us) and managed to kill one and the other ran off to (to later be shot by someone else according to the chat log).

Then, as we were leaving the DZ (or thought we were - we went to the entrance not exit) we were jumped by 2 more guys. My gf was diddling with her inventory again and I was 'keeping watch'. She completely ignored my warnings that two red-tagged guys were running very fast our way. 2 grenades later and a shotgun blast to my character's head later I was re-spawning. I was then informed that she thought I meant NPCs and she had time to finish modding her gun and that it was my fault we didn't win that fight. :/

All-in-all I liked it alright. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of randomized encounter/fights, but if the Dev said they turned that off then I suppose that'll change (I still think that's incredibly stupid since a lot of people were probably turned off from the game for a lack of fighting). I , also, would have loved it if there was more of a take back the city block-by-block vibe.

Oh, and I would have killed for a skateboard/bicycle or even goddamn razor scooter after the first hour. There is a reason they have cabs in cities - running around everywhere gets old really quick.

I still plan on buying it - but probably not as a day one purchase.

I don't block regular ads -- just popups. I like websites I visit to be able to make a few pennies with ads that aren't obtrusive. Cheapy's crossing the line with me here though, and I may have to begin blocking.

Save those stupid mid-forum ads for people that aren't logged in/registered.

As YBX87 says you really should do some leveling... (And you got to do at least two missions... The first is really short, run to site, hit a button a few times, etc. The other one unlocks grenades or maybe a power/ability)

Its possible to hit lvl 7 in a fairly quick manner... Also DZ can be brutal with base gear. None of the gear you get can be used till you got back to a base of operations/Hub and why you can fast travel to a BOA/Hub you cannot fast travel back to the DZ. (Seems like a mistake to be honest.)

I was informed that the wife has plans for me tonight so I might not be able to get online till stupid late... There are rumors of a open beta in mid February... If true you might want to check out the single player tonight to give you a head start on it. (There is two leveling systems... One you lvl in the DZ (which is hidden) the other in the campaign/co-op area which is the level others see. I feel its the more important one.)

If you do want to do the DZ there is a matchmaking system... It seems like it is only located in the first hub. (Its off to the right. its between the gear and the weapons vendor.)

I didn't learn anything new from these but I wish I had known them day one.

Probably Mooby's fault. All those posts about FO4 Amazon prices must have triggered the new ads!

 
You guys didn't hear about the Division crap right now?

The server pings the computer for your XP bonus' and ammo info, so apparently you can give yourself constant ammo and make yourself impossible to kill.

 
i dont understand why there has been so much talk about this tom clancy crap when we already have a shooter that is way better, Battlefront...  and we all know origin > uplay!

but sseriously, when inmate n i was running in the lvl 8 dark zone, since i finalyl hit the max lvl 8 in beta, which is the highest lvl u can get. alot of players who are rogue n griefers are deck out in good gear. when i was trying to help out inmate when he was swarmed by the same group of griefers, by flanking them. i could barely get the player
's health down by much at all. n i was using my shotgun almost literally at close blank range.

Yeah, here's to hoping it's just because it's a beta, and some stuff that's suppose to be server side isn't active, but 5 weeks from release...? I sort of doubt that.

Ubisoft's most recent multiplayer game, Rainbow Six Seige, is a hacker/cheaters paradise... With anticheating measures are taking screenshots and sending them to ubisoft support. (Which is horribly funny in an unfunny sort of way.)

Anyhow, sounds bad... and is bad. I've been luckily and seen none of this but only a fool (or an Obisoft's employee) would suggest this isn't a huge fucking clusterfuck.

Just not well thought out.  Being the Master Race and all, you'd think someone would think about all the dingbats that do this for fun.  (the griefing, not the gaming)

But.. it is what it is.  Wasn't going to buy into this anyways but it reinforces why I stay away from FPS' anymore and multiplayer in most cases.  It's fun when it's just a handful of friends acting stupid and drinking.  It's another thing entirely to cheat your way to leaderboards and "creds".

I would punch the kid in me if I pulled this crap in Golden Eye back in the day.

main reason for the griefing is because there is repercussion for , being closed beta. also the missions/pve stuff to do outside of the dark zone is very limited. so people are bored as hell. lol

trust me if u are in a max of 4 man group roaming around, most players who are solo, or in a smaller group will be heistant to engage u. there are even loopholes people found to get more than a single 4 man group together in to the same dark zone instance to play together. even though u can only have 4 player max in a gorup, but u can get two 4-man team squad into the same dark zone instance. essentially a 8 man fire team just not in typical group setting.


 
I'm all for harsh anti-cheating measures in FPS games. If a multiplayer game (especially on the PC) doesn't have cheat protection and poor oversight I'm probably not going to waste my time playing. Ubisoft... good lord.

That's hugely disappointing. I didn't know Rainbow Six Seige was that bad.
