Why is it ok to have these kinds of games, but if I did a picture version using real life models, everyone would be up in arms... (or.. at least one arm raised, with another in a questionably compromised position)

 
You guys think it's worth upgrading from an i5-2500k @ 4.0 GHz to an i5-6600k/corresponding DDR4? I'm thinking about picking up a GTX 1070 but I dunno if it'd be worth overhauling the rest of my system. 

I think going from an R9 290 to a GTX 1070 should help with 1440p but I have doubts about the rest. My CPU/mobo combo is about 4 years old though.

Not really. I posted awhile back that going from an i5 Sandy bridge to like an i7 Ivy Bridge makes some differences, though most are minor. It's the point that some games will be a bit more stable at staying around 60fps compared to the i5. You can probably squeeze just a few more frames out to have a better average. If those small differences mean a lot to you then you'd rather go for the i7 Skylake. If not, stick with the 2500K and OC it a bit to like 4.5 GHz if you can.

Going from the R9 290 to the GTX 1070 is definitely more of a worthy upgrade.

I agree with ShadoEX. The only reason to upgrade a cpu is when it starts bottlenecking the gpu, and the i5-2500k won't bottleneck the 1070. You also won't notice any difference between DDR4 and DDR3. I would buy a 1070 now and wait for a significant jump in cpus before starting a new build. Look at the benchmarks on cpuboss and reviews of skylake on anandtech and others. The consensus is that Skylake is not worth it.

 
Thanks for the input everybody. Seems like the performance increase for me is not worth the price.

I'm at 4.0 GHz without a voltage increase but I guess I could look into that.

Back on the topic of PC games... Steredenn from the Humble Monthly is pretty fantastic if you enjoy shoot 'em ups and games with rogue-like elements. It's definitely challenging if you're in the mood for something like that.

 
Good to see Sonic Bundle is coming soon. I suspected there was going to be a SEGA bundle approximately 2 months ago. Well not SEGA but Sonic instead is still ok.

 
RE the upgrade, there is more to it than just your processor

My 2600k was running ok, but I had a z68 mobo, which didnt even have native usb3, it used a separate chipset on the motherboard, so usb3 performance was so-so. That alone had me wanting to upgrade for a while. Also the 2600k was bottlenecking my 970, sure not by alot because with the highest built in auto-overclock I would eek out an extra 10fps, but the bottleneck was there. I dont particularly attribute it to the speed of the processor, more so DMI2.0 and still being stuck on PCIE 2.0. Which was another reason to upgrade so that I could have pcie3/dmi3 for a gtx10xx card.

So for a modest upgrade price after 6 years at least now Im updated to the current latest mobo/chipset/proc technology and using all stock intel chipsets including alpine ridge so I dont have much to worry about as far as compatibility and stability

The only thing intel has hinted at for the 200 series chipset is just the addition of a couple more pci lanes and usb ports, so nothing drastic to be missed IMHO when those roll around at the end of the year

The secret behind the game is that you get dropped off at Gay Island, and the 7 asset flip baddies you fight are all part of the Gay Militia. That's why they all have matching uniforms and their muzzle bursts are so pretty. There are no objectives in the 10-minute game because fighting The Gay is mission enough on its own. And there's no extraction because you've been exposed to The Gay and can't risk bringing it back.

Game is such complete garbage that I literally just wrote a more detailed and plausible scenario than the devs.

I looked into the subs on SteamDB and we may have a problem.

There's four subs: One with the $1 tier, one with BTA tier, one with the third tier and one for the assumed second week bonuses.

However, there's also a FIFTH sub that gives you the contents of all the other tiers (excluding the Yogscast DLC.) So depending on what Sega thinks, we may be stuck with a bundle we can't add money to and that only gives you one key (like that Focus Home one from a while back.) This key cannot be redeemed in Japan or Korea. So... who knows...
