Welcome to the Steam deals thread V12, where we talk about just about everything except what games are on sale.
Please wipe your feet on the way in...

Summer Sale PSA: If you're new to Steam sales, be sure to check out both Enhanced Steam and Spoony's Official Guide to Steam Sales before you ask a question and/or spend more money than you'd care to say.

Before you ask, if a game is already a featured deal (daily/flash/community) that's the lowest it will go this sale. Feel free to buy without the worry it will get a better discount later on.

Needs to have it's MSRP slashed in half and put at 80% off. Otherwise, just play Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

But - that's still only 33% right now... :(

I hope...it gets a better percentage-off deal as a daily, as well.

75% off would be a good start... ;)
I've barely bought anything this sale and haven't used up my card money yet. I'm going to be a fakecag and buy it if its $30.

I thought Killing Flooor DLC was just a way to support the devs for continuing to support it after all these years.

It seems like most people complaining about lack of DLC sales are just completionists who just want +1s to their steam account. I said the same thing about Skyrim but if you actually liked the game you would have bought it already and not regretted it because, you know, you played the game and liked it.

But hey, 75% or bust right? Games are for collecting, not playing.
Well, the Killing Floor DLC is more or less superfluous (and arguably overpriced, especially when compared to the cost of the Killing Floor Collection) and I'm only missing one, so yeah, I'm gonna hold out for 75% off.

The main complaint is that the new game is right around the corner, and some of the DLC is pretty old, so I don't think it's ridiculous to think that they should hit 75% off right about now, much like the base game. What's worse is despite the base game being the only thing to see a flash sale, it eats up a flash sale spot that could be used for another franchise.

And you say how one should buy the DLC to support the game? You mean the game they're abandoning for the sequel? What point is there to paying for their support of the game now when they're moving on? You wanna support them? Buy KF2 and the million DLCs that'll come out for it. Simple.

It's because DLC sales is the only thing we can look forward to on steam sales.
Pretty much. A lot of stores either don't go out of their way to put it on sale because the profit margin isn't that great or just don't sell the DLC at all. It's harder to get good sales on DLC.

Fun game, but it's been bundled a number of times so don't buy it unless you're getting the collection with the gorillion DLCs.

It's also noticeably cheaper from foreign traders if you're into that sort of thing.
What was the DLC missing out the "complete" collection you got?

Skyrim isn't really a good comparison because it actually adds content to the game KF DLC is all cosmetic and while I do want to support the dev, I don't want to at 50% off. Even at 75% off I've still paid close to $30 in pure cosmetic DLC just to support them on top of the $20 that the base game cost. With the missing DLC at 75% off it would still be another $10 to them for $60 total support. I think that's pretty good and don't care to pay an extra $10 because they don't like 75% off.

What was the DLC missing out the "complete" collection you got?

The only DLC that wasn't included was Mrs. Foster. Which is extra silly seeing as you could unlock Steampunk Mrs. Foster during the Summer Event last year...

Pretty much. A lot of stores either don't go out of their way to put it on sale because the profit margin isn't that great or just don't sell the DLC at all. It's harder to get good sales on DLC.
I have another theory.... I think that store give steep discount on base game to hook you in and rip you off by offer no or very little discount on the DLC. Recent case in point, Space Hulk.. 90% discount on base game and 2-pack but none on the dlc.

Guys.... guys.... I feel so dirty.

I want to buy Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. It's not even on steam!

This is what crappy Steam deals do to me!

(...but the game looks so fun)

I thought Killing Flooor DLC was just a way to support the devs for continuing to support it after all these years.

It seems like most people complaining about lack of DLC sales are just completionists who just want +1s to their steam account. I said the same thing about Skyrim but if you actually liked the game you would have bought it already and not regretted it because, you know, you played the game and liked it.

But hey, 75% or bust right? Games are for collecting, not playing.
I usually give two shits about stuff like multiplayer skins. But I'll buy stuff like additional characters with different gameplay, extra missions, and bonus content.

I've been waiting for various DLC packs to go on sale because devs are holding off on putting them on sale when their games are featured as regular deals on Steam. Klei wouldn't put the Mark of the Ninja SE DLC on sale, for example. I complained in their game forums and got yelled at by white knights. I'm waiting for that game to go on a deeper discount so I can get the DLC for a buck.

I missed that one. :'(

Thanks for the reminder! :(

Does anyone remember when Lara Croft + TR series of games were like 90% off or so one day?
Both of those were epic. Another classic was the Valve Complete Pack being 25 bucks on the holiday sale a few years ago.

fuck you Steam for the Vampires The Masquerade Bloodlines and JAde Empire trollings!!

Did it have Community Weapons 2?
Yup. The store description lies, it has everything except for Mrs. Foster. Enhanced Steam tells me so, and it tells me I own it when I add the Weapons pack to my cart. I even just added all the DLC to my cart, and the only one without the orange text is Mrs. Foster.

It's also in my DLC list for the game in my Steam Library.

How dare you ask for a sale on DLC! You should be grateful that the poor starving indie developers make anything for you at all!

Exactly! (though I deleted those thoughts from my post to let the main point stand clearly)

Is Rayman Legends region locked? It's practically free over in Mother Russia. Might see if I can get help from one of my comrades if it isn't region locked.

Well, the Killing Floor DLC is more or less superfluous
That's kind of what I meant when I said the only reason to buy is it to support the devs - I mean, character skins in a first person shooter? You don't even see it 90% of the time, so what's the point other than +1 or supporting the devs? There's really only 3 DLCs that add actual content (new weapons) to the game, and they're a little pricier because, you guessed it, some of the profits go to pay the modders from the community who designed those weapons. I've only used the weapons in Community weapon pack 1 but I found the weapons to be only marginally better than the default ones. The rest are character skins or weapon skins. I find it ironic that people complain about all the pointless first person skins in Borderlands 2, even though they are much cheaper, but people are outraged that they can't buy first person skins in Killing Floor at 75% off (at $1.25 each, as opposed to Borderlands $0.24 per skin).

And you say how one should buy the DLC to support the game? You mean the game they're abandoning for the sequel? What point is there to paying for their support of the game now when they're moving on? You wanna support them? Buy KF2 and the million DLCs that'll come out for it. Simple.
Where did they say they were abandoning it? I haven't been following KF that closely so I'm genuinely curious. Also if they were abandoning the game why would you pick up the DLC, even at 75% off, for a "dead" game? For the +1?

I think it wasn't before it officially launched on Steam then they restricted it after it released if memory is correct.

It is for Russia, but some people are selling ROW copies cheap. Not sure how. I managed to get a copy for 2 TF2 keys from this guy, but he increased the price a bit afterward.

It's assumed because they've stopped releasing DLCs for some time and the sequel is imminent for an Early Access release (read: unfinished). Would be silly for them not to focus on the sequel.

And it's not the +1 as much as I'm only missing ONE DLC. Just one out of the 19 available. So I guess it's an OCD thing. :p

Hmm, that's a bit suspicious. I'm all for saving a few bucks, but if the game gets yanked from my library a few weeks from now, it'll end up costing me $6 instead of saving me $4. Guess I'll pay full price.

What do I care though? I'm using card money that some badge whores gave me.

Thanks anyway to you and stupidproz.

If it did get yanked from your library, which is extremely unlikely, Valve would reverse the trade for you and you'd get your items back. Anything done in the trade window doesn't have much risk.

Hmmmmm.

EDIT: And I did it. I blame you spoder if this blows up in my face.

Do you guys think I should go bat shit crazy and buy the Pinball FX tables now, or should I wait??
I hate saying "read the OP". But... "read the OP"

What's the ruling on Killing Floor?
Excellent co-op shooter. It's gritty, meaty, and very fun (684 hours on record). Weapons feel awesome and the bad guys are to be feared. Don't worry about any DLC just get the main game. It's all you need.

Yeah, that's me. I tell everyone to skip the BL2 skins, but I get angry at 50% off Killing Floor DLC sales. It's all about the discount discrepancy between the DLC and the "whole package"... not the fact that they are pointless skins.

You don't get a +1 from skins though (I'm sure you know this). And I don't think they are "abandoning" Killing Floor, but instead focusing on the new game. I'm sure they'll still have another seasonal event or two to support KF.

It's only been ~8 months since they released their last DLC, and if you look at when the various DLCs were released, they release about every 6 months, so while they're a little behind schedule, it wouldn't surprise me if they released some more DLC for KF1 around the time KF2 hits EA (perhaps as a preorder bonus?) Although yes, they probably are focusing on the sequel, I feel it's highly unlikely that they completely abandon the first KF seeing as they built quite a big cult following with that game. Plus it's not like it takes a huge amount of effort to design a skin or two for the game, which is all the KF DLC amounts to anyway.

I guess I should say that by "abandoning" I mean in terms of further DLC and non-critical patches. I don't doubt that there'll be at least another event or two. But they're clearly not going to be dumping much effort/money into the game anymore.

I'm eyeing Serious Sam 2 Legend of the Beast for the same reason. I have all other SS games and DLC except that one, but I'm not sure if I'll go back to SS2 at any point

Finished State of Derpcay.  Overall an enjoyable game but with a ton of unfulfilled potential.  The concept of upgrading your base, recruiting people, improving their abilities, and scavenging for supplies is solid but the base game is so easy that they can all be ignored or just given a casual pass.  I guess the Breakdown DLC focuses more on this but they should have made it the center of the game.  A lot of good ideas and design concepts that feel shallow the more you play.

Might pick up Lifeline if it comes up again as a flash.

Some people like cosmetic stuff even in first person games. You'd be surprised.

If people want to buy DLC at full price to 'support the devs' they have the entire rest of the year to do that. Would it really kill them to put it on a deep discount once or twice a year? For some of use we really look forward to these semi annual sales to get some of the odds and ends on sale that don't normally get discounted, like DLC. Even if it's just OCD or whatever can't we have that much?

Also, it bugs me not even because of this particular game, which quite frankly isn't my thing at all, but because it's indicative of a growing trend among indies to take a queue from one of the slimier aspects of big publishers like EA and Bethesda to get people hooked with dirt cheap base games then stick it to them for the DLC. I know this particular DLC isn't really necessary at all but the more developers that do this sort of thing the more other ones will think it's okay, even the norm, and follow suit.

Yeah, that's me. I tell everyone to skip the BL2 skins, but I get angry at 50% off Killing Floor DLC sales. It's all about the discount discrepancy between the DLC and the "whole package"... not the fact that they are pointless skins.
Yes this. It feels like a newcomer who waited can come in and get everything cheap but the loyal fans who bought earlier get penalized.

If they can discount the DLC inside the package deeply then why not ala carte? What's the logic? Because people who already own the game are a captive audience? It's like they figure oh well they already own the game anyway we don't have to try that hard to get their business. That sucks.

They probably won't be dumping a bunch of money into it, no. Tripwire has been good about supporting their games though, and I don't think they'll completely cut off KF until KF2 is totally up and running (it's getting released as Early Access, remember).

Edit: You've got 1.9 hours in the game, are you sure you feel comfortable talking about what's going to happen when the sequel comes out? :bouncy:

Still too expensive. 75% or bust. :p

Edit:

In regards to KF1, it's best to consider the game dead from a development standpoint. Any events that show up will just be rehashes of earlier ones. And that's fine! As long as the game is functional then let them work on the sequel.

And when that comes out KF1 will become a ghost town. Just like Left 4 Dead 1 did.

Tripwire supported the hell out of KF for years, any money you spend on KF1 skins will just further help develop KF2.
That's not the point. I don't care if you like them or you want to save the kittens and help Killing Floor 2 or whatever. It's about parity and fairness and treating your loyal customers like you treat newcomers.

You know Mooby if this was one of the 3,000 games you hate instead of one of the 3 you like you would be joining in and taking a dump all over them.

so what's the logic of bundling Call of Juarez Gunslinger + Far Cry 3 - Blood Dragon? are they related in anyway?
Same publisher. Ridiculous set pieces. Shooting dudes in the face.

The point is only a FakeCAG would waste money buying DLC to the first game when the second has been announced. So, ultimately, the price is irrelevant.

They're both low priced games ($15) that were released a month apart, and both were very successful for Ubisoft, especially considering they were both low-budget games (for them.)

I enjoy the series, but you're right. There are plenty of areas where the game can be improved upon. You're also right about it being kinda easy once you set things up.

One of my problems with it the game is that nobody ever takes any initiative. You can affect the immediate area around you but not much else. It's a rather static world in many ways. Sure, you can recruit people from enclaves, but that's about all you can do with them. They never seem to improve the stuff they are willing to trade and are completely useless at taking care of themselves.

The people in your own group are no better. Anybody not controlled by you is a moron who gets themselves in trouble constantly and many can't go five minutes without turning into a crybaby. Oh, and the best part: That guy you leveled up to be the baddest zombie killer in the universe, who can take out hordes all by himself? Well, he turns into a complete screw up when you change to other characters.

Think the guy who has maxed out physical or gun skills might actually take care of himself when you have to let him do his own thing? Nope, he defaults back to the skillset that all the other useless bots have. (this usually amounts to flailing repeatedly until said zombie dies or they do)

Holy cow. That wall of text might just work for my review of the game with a few tweaks. :)
