Welcome to the Steam deals thread V12, where we talk about just about everything except what games are on sale.
Please wipe your feet on the way in...

Summer Sale PSA: If you're new to Steam sales, be sure to check out both Enhanced Steam and Spoony's Official Guide to Steam Sales before you ask a question and/or spend more money than you'd care to say.

Before you ask, if a game is already a featured deal (daily/flash/community) that's the lowest it will go this sale. Feel free to buy without the worry it will get a better discount later on.

You will hit 600 soon...if you buy games the CAG way - when it's REAL cheap!

Oh, and I'm sure buying stuff full price helps, too. ;)

EDIT:

I voted for Platformer, Female Protagonists set.

TR 2014 is pretty good, I must say.
I rolled my eyes at the category title a bit, but voted for it so more people can get the awesomeness that is the Giana Sisters.

Also, it should be a historical low for They Bleed Pixels.

Was hoping TR 14 wouldn't come back up til the end, so I'd know there isn't anything else I really want. Don't know if I can willpower to pass on it again, especially with the way the sale is starting to turn.

EDIT: Apparently the Blackwell sale was good in more then one way, got one I was missing and got a booster for Convergence.

Nice job duping your friend for $10 profit!
I believe what he meant with his statement was that his friend didn't listen to him about the bundle sale, and instead bought it for $10 from Steam when the sale was over. The wording could have been a lot better, but I believe he was throwing out how much he paid for comparison reasons.

How is Delver? Looks like a dungeon crawling Minecraft. Was watching Vahnkiljoy play it a little bit ago on twitch and seemed fun for what it is. He said its has been updated and plays a lot better than when he first beat it. Just looking to see what you guys think.

Laney says it's shit because you finish it in 10 minutes and the "fun" is playing it over and over to get a better score. Avoid at all costs.

Double post, but it looks like Ubi is doing more downgrades for PC versions of their games like they did with Watch_Dogs.

Ubi shows time and time again that they don't care about the PC market, first their CEO claims a 90%+ piracy rate, and now this shit.

Looks like consoles are going to hold back PC ports for the next few years because everybody knows this new console gen's gonna get stale quick in comparison. :wall:

Edit: My bad, Snake Eyes posted the exact link earlier. Thought this link was different/

Does that site have any credibility because that isn't an actual line released to the media, but a website claiming it was told to them by a developer working on said project. Considering the poor website design and the fact that it isn't frequently updated, I get the impression that story is just that - a story someone made up to capitalize on the Ubisoft downgrade shenanigans.

There actually is a line still left in the code commented out about some sort of setting that says "This is PC only, who cares".

That's not something someone pulled out of their ass. Someone at Ubisoft left it in the code.

The Golf Club, Next Car Game, and OOTP 15. Still massively disappointed at that community vote.
Almost the same as mine except I have Age of Wonders III (not paying $19.99 for it) instead of Next Car Game to go along with OOTP 15 and The Golf Club

Double post, but it looks like Ubi is doing more downgrades for PC versions of their games like they did with Watch_Dogs.

Ubi shows time and time again that they don't care about the PC market, first their CEO claims a 90%+ piracy rate, and now this shit.
While I can't comment on the validity of that particular article, I find it interesting that there are four different articles on the main page all slamming Ubisoft. The author writes those like he has a personal axe to grind against the company and it comes off as sensationalism.

Truth be told both stories in question in recent posts do have actual merit.

I'm sure piracy rate is really high, I don't doubt 90%. You have to remember in other countries the piracy rate is around 99%. Though I don't see how it matters, the only numbers I would really be concerned with is what it cost and what it made. If a game is pirated by 100 million people but made you 5 million in profit does it matter?

And anyone who knows anything about game or software development knows that internal teams find bugs all the time, and they are not always fixed. There are lots of cases in the game industry where a certain level had some game crashing bug or problem and instead of fixing it, they just axed it from the final release. Seemingly complete character models and animations, complete levels, unused music and it's still in the game's installation files.

Probably. But it's only 4 out of 11 articles. And I feel like Ubi's the only one who's been really doing stupid stuff lately.

Would it really surprise any of you that they would hold the PC release back to better market the console version where they arguably make more money? Whether the particular claim is true or not, we can gather that Ubisoft, much like Activision, doesn't care much for the PC market. You only need to look as far as Splinter Cell: Blacklist for more evidence of that.

Looks like consoles are going to hold back PC ports for the next few years because everybody knows this new console gen's gonna get stale quick in comparison. :wall:

Also assassin's creed is always laTe on pc and has at times had performance issues in the past

Oh every AAA game these days is held back because of consoles. Even if it's not as blatant and intentional our games are crippled by their shitty hardware because it's the lowest common denominator that publishers have the games built around.

Of course it does. If it had made you $50 million in profit, you could have perhaps opened a new studio, hired new developers, put a couple extra new games into the hopper, whatever.
From the perspective of "will we release another..."

Piracy will always exist. There are countries where you can't buy a legitimate physical good even if you wanted to.

But from a business standpoint, you don't let missed sales deter you from actual sales. That's why Ubisoft citing piracy rate is garbage. It's not a figure that matters.

I was pretty excited at the idea of a Steambox (building my own, none of this pre-made expensive stuff) once SteamOS was officially released, then today I installed Steam on my Linux (work) computer to see if I could idle for any cards while I worked.

Out of 432 games only 71 work on Linux (and of course none of the games that I still have card drops remaining)...

I laughed out loud at this. I cannot bestow enough likes. Thank you!

There's also the fact that no real study has been done as to how many of those pirated copies would have lead to an actual purchase. I have pirated 4 games in my life, two that I already owned but couldn't find the CD for (Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3), one that my husband remembered playing when he was younger and I couldn't find a legit copy anywhere (Rails Across America), and one that didn't have a demo and I was on the fence. I don't even remember the game, just that it was an FPS (I decided not to buy it)

"Will we release another at the expense of developing and releasing this game since we can't do both and this one made a slim profit so I guess we'll do ShooterMan: Part IV and take the safe route in lieu of taking a chance on this new idea".

Stuff doesn't exist in a vacuum.

Edit: And that I'll leave at that and let you get the last word in since the only thing worse than a shit Steam Sale is a shit Steam Sale and a boring debate on game piracy.

Unless/until Valve really gets that translation layer working well and on a wide-scale, Windows will always be installed on my HDD and used as my main gaming OS. (but it's totally rad to see stuff like Witcher 2, Civ and the new XCOM pop-up with linux versions even if they are late to the party)

edit: I also think that Valve or some other dev could really help things along with a SteamOS/linux exclusive game...even if said exclusivity is only for 6-12 months. But a move like that takes the right game and some serious balls so...

Someone called "*redacted*" sent me a trade offer. Whoever you are - your profile is private, so forget about it. I've posted my link at various places I frequent and if you're not a regular, part of the site's Steam group, or a friend of a friend, then you're not getting my cards. :speaktothehand:

Edit: And he messaged me here saying that he was a poster here. Which is true. But that's another topic. I'll remove his name, but I still won't trade with anyone with a private account.

It's not like Valve has a high profile IP that they've been dicking around over the sequel for a decade or anything.

I started building my living room PC last night (hereafter referred to as the FlowBox until I think of a wittier name) and it'll run SteamOS once I get things up and running.

It wasn't until last night that I noticed how few fancy titles are on Linux at present. All stuff from my current library (Mark of the Ninja, Guacamelee, Bastion etc.) is hardly gonna convince Mrs Flow that this was a worthwhile investment.

I really, really need Witcher 2 to pop up on a re-hash sale or a flash. (We've had a daily, haven't we?).

There's an interesting idea. SteamOS exclusive for a few months. Launch it in conjunction with the OS. Or even release a free DLC that's SteamOS only temporarily and release the main game for everybody to cut down on the whining.

It'd be pitchforks and torches time if they did that...totally crucified. (I'd love it though if only for the reactions)

Last I tried it, Witcher 2 ran like absolute ass on linux. (Ubuntu 14.04)

True, and if you take the time to read the code above it and below it, it makes sense why they wrote it in there. Some asshat stupidly took it out of context and just posted that tiny little snippet just to make Ubi look bad.

Wow, a foil Summer Adventure card dropped for me. I'm too cheap to complete the set (each card is going for like at least $2) so I'll probably just sell it.

Thanks for the free steam money, Gaben!
