So, between this morning and now, I assumed I'd have missed a lot of new talk.

I assumed wrong.

So, the gist is that everyone pirates and no one pirates.  Pirating is totally wrong, but is actually ok.  The Steam sale still sucks.  The teams are still rigged.  The dailies are rigged.  The flash sales are rigged.  The community votes are rigged.

I can't wait for the Fall Sale.

Hoping it comes around again. After the previous sale, they ran failed community votes as daily deals for the following week or two.

If that doesn't happen, there's always Winter. All-star game is another possibility.

I think I have an extra Vanguard Princess key lying around you can have if you want (It was generous for you to give me Monaco a bit back). I want Sudeki and Misurugi as well...man Sudeki is old but looks like a decent turn based RPG.

I remember Sudeki being really fun back then. Very short though and the ending left a ton to be desired.

Mitsurugi is already 75%. I mean, anything more would be better but I'm fine with that.

Well I'll be damned, pink is actually leading today... may be seeing an extra 15-20 gaben cents in my future.

I sure hope over the last 2 days we get a few more chances to buy GTA and BioShock.  The likes of Double Dragon, Strider and Ikaruga are way too niche to deserve any sort of deep discount.  Screw the nerds who want to play those old outdated things.

Also, while it's not a particularly deep discount, and probably won't see lower during the sale, but if Ikaruga never gets its time, I'm going to throw another recommendation for Crimzon Clover.  For my money it's a better experience than games like Jamestown, Sine Mora, or even Ikaruga for that matter. It's an extremely solid, if extremely challenging, shmup and if you have any fondness for the genre you owe it to yourself to at least give a look even if it's just to wishlist it for the winter sale.

OoTP and Dynasty Warriors were the only games I really wanted this sale. I've picked up nothing else except some DLC and the super cheap Can't Stop Laughing Bundle.

I may actually reduce the number of games in my backlog if Steam keeps this up.

It makes a lot more sense from a business standpoint to discount games that have been good sellers and will continue to be good sellers, then to discount some indie title that maybe gets 10% of purchase volume that the best sellers will get. Which is why you see the same popular titles go on sale, instead of some relatively obscure title that probably only 10-20% of the Steam userbase has even heard of.

If Steam was a supermarket, they would want to discount stuff that is appealing to a larger audience and they already know sells well, then to discount some niche product that, if you're lucky, maybe 10-20% of your customers might buy. I think some people tend to forget that as CAGs, we are a relatively small portion of the Steam audience and most likely not their primary target audience, since we're all about saving money while Valve is all about making money.

Yes, my extreme weeabous nature strongly desiring 2 games developed by companies headquartered in California. Ikaruga is included mostly because it was another one that's unlikely to see daily/flash after failing in the community and fit the sarcasm font tone.

I disagree with nothing you say, this does not mean I like it and will refuse to complain about it. Mostly just feels like between GMG, GG, Steam, Amazon etc, you can get those games along with Borderlands among a few other (which I happened to pick up this sale) on sale any given day of the week. I personally would like the opportunity to pick up games that rarely see deep discounts and maybe people can take a chance on these mid-range games that are generally too big for bundles, but too small for high profile sales. They may eventually get picked up as a daily deal somewhere down the road, or show up on GMG for an even better deal after a 20 or 25% coupon code, but, it's summer sale and therefore everything is the worst when it's not exactly what I want when I want it...

I'm starting to feel the same way. Although at least that F1 game that was in that community choice group is on a flash deal so that gives me some hope. OOTP 15 is really the only thing I still want from this sale.

Eh, I don't know.

I mean - GOG has had some of their best deal in this sale...for older games + classics. And of course, switching deals every 1/2 hour and every hour; while having many games on sale last for 2 hours - that's a cool and interesting concept. And it can lead to more impulsive type of buying.

DRM-FREE deals are always tough to beat, IMHO - b/c you don't have to deal w/ limited installs, online connection needed, or any of that bullcrap...especially for Single-player based content!

On the other hand - Steam's had some decent deals, themselves. Gone Home has had its best deal here; and System Shock 2 is ultra-cheap right now (for those who missed it). Payday 2 4-pack was a great deal - as I split it w/ 3 others, resulting in the end of me spending $4.50 for it. Though, Steam's deals are rotating daily (main deals) and every 8 hours for Flash + Community deals. This gives buyer more time + chance to buy. And also - some of their deals, Amazon has gone ahead PM'ed (Price-Matched) - and I wound-up buying from Amazon b/c I had either Amazon GC's built-up from Bing (done that a few times already - i.e. Age of Empires 2 HD + The Forgotten Expansion); and/or stacked some Amazon Promo on top of the Steam-PM deal (SR4 - killer deal there).

Personally - I don't think we'll ever have that feeling of "What an Amazing Sale" again where we buy so much and feel amazed...especially since we buy so much + backlog so much, so often here on CAG. That certainly doesn't help matters - as there are killer deals...on stuff we already owned! Those deals do NOTHING for us. We just seek the deals we want and need, when they come along - and just keep it moving.

IMHO - so far, from what I picked-up this Summer from GOG, Steam, Amazon DVG, and GameFly...I think I'm doing alright here, overall. :D

I'm amazed at just how much control the game allows.  You can play anywhere from barely running anything to making decisions on everything apparently.

Yes and no. There's not tons that I'm looking for but past sales had been good for getting me to buy stuff outside my "to buy" list because I'd say "Hey, that game is 80% off? Sure, why not". This sale hasn't had that for me at all. The cheap games are mainly junk and the "better" games are 30-66% off which doesn't inspire impulse purchasing from me.

It's indicative of a trend of crappier discounts now that Steam is catching on with the mainstream. There's less they need to do to bring you in.

Think of it like "relationship weight". You gain it because you're comfortable enough in your relationship you don't maintain your body for the purpose of attracting others.

Sure, until Steam catches me madly humping GetGamesGo.

Too far? I'm just sayin', GetGamesGo, I'm not entirely happy with my current relationship and there's an opening there if you can make the move and take it.

I know you're being semi-facetious but again, Valve does not cater to your personal wants, they cater to the lowest common denominator, and the LCD doesn't check sites like GMG, Amazon, GG, etc.

Most of my real life friends who use Steam have less than 50 games, and they only picked up a couple things during the sale, and they were all things that have seen multiple sales already (Dungeon Defenders, Tropico and Mount & Blade). They aren't glued to deal sites like us CAGs are, so during the sale they just buy things that they've heard from others are good (AKA more well known titles that have probably been discounted before, not some obscure low-profile indie title that's never seen a discount), instead of thinking "75% or bust/it's been bundled 4279x times already". I'm pretty sure a good majority of the Steam userbase is like that, they just buy what they want when they want it, instead of worrying about whether DLC will be discounted appropriately in the future, if it's headed for a bundle, etc.

EDIT 2:

According to ITAD - this is the cheapest KOTOR, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy + TFU invidually have been.

If you are buying NOT all of these, buying what you need separately, and not using PlayFire money - looks like the way to go.

Edit: Some lunatic I'm Steam friends with has contributed 630 points so far. To Blue Team. Versus the 0-5 points everyone else on my Blue Team friends list has contributed.

One of my friends is a Level 141 Steam collector. He's contributed 2525 points to Green so far and he's got a Level 71 Adventure Badge.

Yeah. I've been watching the flash sales and votes hoping against hope, but with 3 days'ish left in the sale, I'm getting discouraged.

I'm amazed at just how much control the game allows. You can play anywhere from barely running anything to making decisions on everything apparently.

There is definitely a lot to do in OOTP. My gripe in years past has been that they'll add some really neat stuff in a version, that stuff won't exactly work as intended out of the box and need some tweaking, but it doesn't get that tweaking because the next year's version there's all kinds of new stuff. So it's been a few seasons since I played.

I've heard good things about this year's version, so I'm willing to give it a shot at $10, if I can but get a crack at that.

 
I got Long Live The Queen in that flash sale earlier today. I gotta say it's pretty cool especially since you get to have people executed.

A Kawaii Desu visual novel in which you get to have people be viciously mudered. 10/10
