Finally got around to playing State of Decay, thanks to uPlay needing to update (thus skipping Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood some more). Very early on but liking it so far despite my apparent terribleness at it, found some tips that are helping like the dropkick which made combat muuuchhh easier right now. Seems I got to get out of my usual sneak everywhere mentality as it wastes a lot of time that could be used for useful things (again helped by learning how to do the dropkick). 

The graphics are a bit on the questionable side, at least at first. Getting more used to it now and not as ehhhh...by them. Liking the gameplay so far, kind of a zombie game I can actually like.

I think the losing votes thing is perhaps an over correction to the last couple sales. The last couple pretty much every vote ended up as a flash sale or daily, so they attempted to make it "matter" this time around.

We've heard devs speak of the way things are handled before. They give a base discount if they want and if they get featured a deeper discount, so no, it's not some strange conspiracy.

I don't think it's a conspiracy. Since it's Valve we're talking about, money is the only motivating factor.

From my understanding Valve asks developers/publishers to submit the games and discounts they will agree to before the sale. I know they can set and change their own discounts whenever they'd like throughout the year. Although I'm not sure if the same is true during events like these of if there are restrictions.

We haven't seen any of the devs or publishers discount games to match the same discount as they had when they lost the community vote (Fox's Jade Empire reference is a good example). I dunno. I was bored and thought it was an interesting late night observation. I'll probably question my ramblings tomorrow.

Why I love State of Decay, by: Me

One dark night I was helping an inept NPC to get where he wanted to go.  I'd borrowed a police cruiser they no longer needed.  I was speeding down the highway when I suddenly saw a huge horde of zombies.  One car accident later,  I'm  upside down in a nearby ditch and the fight of my life commences.

Wave after wave came at me (ok, maybe 10 or 12).  Surrounded, I flail wildly, bashing away at anything near me.  Down goes one, I get bit, down goes another, I'm running out of stamina.  Whack, bang, smush!  Sluggishly I swing my weapon at the last remaining one.  I don't have anything left in me.  A solid hit connects and down he goes.  I crush his rotten head into a pulp and scream victory to the darkened skies!  I limp to a nearby vehicle and return to my base.  I'm bruised and "hurt" but I am undefeated.

Ya, it's corny.  Those situations are the reason I play that game though.  It's such a rush to pull out a victory and survive what seemed to be impossible odds.

Depends on what you mean by 'anime'. [customspoiler="spoilered for excessive line breaks"]If you just mean visual novels and the like, Hanako and Christine Love's stuff would be my first (maybe only) recommendations on Steam.

If you just want something with an anime art style, the Naruto game is supposed to be solid.

Carpe Fugal's games are really difficult but definitely worth checking out (Recettear especially).

The Ys games have received a lot of praise, but I've only played the first one so far so that's the only one I could give any personal recommendation for.

The Agerest games are sort of guilty pleasures, but if you can get past the grinding there's some enjoyment to be had with them.

Fairy Bloom Freesia is a really enjoyable arena fighter (think single player Smash Bros with more depth) with a lot of replay value.

Magical Drop V is a very charming and fun puzzle game that's dirt cheap right now and I'd definitely recommend picking up, though apparently the online is broken so that's a bit of a shame.

If you like shmups the eXceed series is one of my absolute favorites (the 3rd game especially; you can skip the first), and the Gundemonium games are also really good.[/customspoiler]

Not sure if any of that is what you were looking for, but hopefully it gives you some ideas.

It's probably only a few things, but the Delta Force games all have 8 hours left. The dailies from today are at 32 hours. Most things I've seen are ending on Monday but some seem to be a bit earlier.

Speaking of non-highlight games on sale, I think I will be getting The Yawhg.  I've been following this game for a while and it looks like a blast.  It's kind of a weird hybrid board game - story telling game, where you play with multiple people and work together in order to stop some impending disaster; but in this game it's more about the journey (and the great choose-your-own-adventure style of decision making).  There are stats so it's not completely a visual novel; it plays unique and it has great art style (Emily Carroll of His Face All Red fame).

Watch the Giantbomb crew play though it twice. There doesn't seem to be a wide variety of events (they ran into the same ones multiple times), although some do seem to be stat reliant in their outcome, which is nice. However, some events (particularly bad ones) seem to always have the same outcome (the lady in the alley for example). This leads to the scenario where you hit an event and say "Oh, I know what to do here for the best possible outcome."

It's very neat for a first playthough (preferably not solo), but after that I only really see it as a show piece for others who haven't played it yet.
