Wow, I don't know if they underestimated demand for the Mad Max SB or what, but I got to my store at opening and they didn't have any on the floor. When I asked about it, they said they only got 3 and they were preorder. I find it hard to believe that they only had 3 preorder slots but there were none available for purchase.
I am. I think demand was seriously underestimated for this SB and we're going to see it scalping like crazy. Online pre-ordering was massively screwed up like it was for Thor 2.

I pre-ordrered one in-store and I'm calling the store at 10AM sharp to make sure they have it set aside, as I don't think I'll be able to go to the store to pick it up until Thursday.

There were only three Mad Max steelbooks when I arrived at 10:45. Thought for sure I missed out but they were on the back of a cardboard display at the front of the store. Now two left in Allentown.

The store I pre-ordered it at finally tracked down my pre-order and said mine was the last copy in the store. :whistle2:$

They have it aside, marked as a pre-order, so it should be there when I get to the store on Thursday.

The pre-order for this Mad Max SB has been so screwed up, I'd think that Best Buy would have learned by now.

What happened with the preorder? I was gone when it was announced and they were long gone by the time I found out a week or so later or else I would've placed an order.

Not surprised BB has fucked up again with their preorders. Last 2 times I preordered a steelbook (Insurgent and Hunger Games Mockingjay P1), I preordered using the card slip they have instore and both times they were not set apart for preorders and I had to pick up a copy off the shelf. Also both times the system would not accept that it was a preorder sale so had to have the manager do a cancel and rebuy.

This time I was planning to pick it up instore using the website or at least order online but looks like those options are unavailable.

Up for pre-order on the 9th, disappeared in a couple of days. Appeared to go back to being available for pre-order a week later, though it wouldn't let you ship nor would it let you pick a store for in-store pickup. Been that way up until a day or two ago when it changed to "Sold Out Online" or "Coming Soon". I had to order at a different local store since my home store had all of their pre-orders fulfilled and pulled their pre-order cards.

I never, ever order pre-order in-store unless there's no option to do otherwise, like this one. I always do online pre-order with shipment, since BB seems to have fixed their SB shipping issues in the last year+. Otherwise, I'd do online pre-order for in-store pickup as a backup.

Either way, the online order has an audit trail behind it, you know when it's been picked for in-store pickup and if not, you can get them to ship for free. This time around, it was a colossal mess for how it went online, unless you were lucky and pre-ordered in the first day or two. Doing a pre-order in-store with a pre-order card, there's much different auditing if the order is ready to go or even picked For an in-store pre-order, they should force you to have a MyBB membership, so there's an email address and phone number that would be tied to the pre-order. They email you when it's picked and hold it for a week like an in-store pickup order. Issue solved.

Surprised it was this hard for you guys to get Mad Max. Mine actually came in Saturday.

I can swing by Best Buy after work for you guys, but the chances of seeing one is slim to none, it sounds like.

This was definitely a clusterfuck. I hustled over to the Fox Hills Westfield Culver City mall Best Buy at 9:30 just to be safe, first one there until 9:45. When doors opened at 10 am there were half a dozen people waiting to get in. I went to the "New Releases" display stand which was the only one in the store that I knew of (there are two entrances to the store and both used to have new release display stands...not anymore) and there were only two copies of the steelbook available. I grabbed one and handed the other to the stranger behind me. The staff indicated that they were "checking the back" to "bring more out", but who the hell knows if they even had any more outside of the preorder allotment. Two of the other five people that waited with me were definitely disappointed at that point, and soon enough a few people straggled in through the mall entrance looking for it. This location is one of the prime Best Buys serving the Silicon Beach tech community (along with the other Culver City store and the old ass West L.A. store), so really it should have been stocked with dozens of copies of this. Unfortunately that was not the case.

I'd wager that outside of the odd rare outlier store where we will hear anecdotes of people stumbling upon one or more later today or even later this week, if you didn't get one at opening or confirmed preorder, it will more likely than not be grim odds getting this at Best Buy.

Best part was, I checked out BestBuy.com this morning for shits n giggles, and saw on the steelbook page here that I could not only "check stores" for its availability, but it had the "Add to Cart" magic yellow button enabled for ordering at a bunch of stores! Of course, clicking on any of said yellow buttons did fuckALL i.e. nothing (EDIT: just tried again and now after some delay it's showing a small red banner near the top of the page indicating it's not available). Well played, Best Buy, well played...

I'd try to get there sooner rather than later if I were you. IMO there are no guarantees until it's paid for, in your hands, AND you're in the car racing away laughing like a madman Mad Max. And yeah, we'd all think that Best Buy would have learned by now, but that's just crazy talk! They will never learn. Can't wait for Avengers AoU next week :whee:

Good thing I was there right at 10:00 AM opening because Best Buy did not put aside my paid-in-full preorders from a few weeks ago.  So I grabbed the last ones from the shelf.

Same old incompetent shit.  Don't sell pre-orders if you can't follow through on your end.

My pre-order is paid in full and it's "supposedly" sitting at CS with my name on it and my pre-order information on it, which I gave them from the receipt, including register # and transaction # so they could find it without question. If I can make it out there before Thursday, I will, though said store is 15 minutes from work, is on the way home, though I likely won't be able to break out from work during the day nor be able to hit that store post-work in time before close. It's not a high-traffic store due to location and there are two higher-traffic stores within 10 minutes of that location, which is why they still had pre-order cards out last Monday. One of those two stores is my "home" store and they have much more of a clue than a number of the other stores in the rea.

If it's not there when I make it to the store, there will be a large amount of hellfire rained down at that store, plus BB Executive Customer Relations, which I will call from the store and make sure they get the gist of why I'm calling the BB corp office.

Same thing happened to me. The only store in the area that didn't set them aside and they claim that they cancelled the release of the steelbook. They just did the refund and ushered me out the door without even offering me any compensation like the other stores said they should've. I plan to call up there and talk with the manager about seeing what he can do for me. Any nice CAGs out there have a spare for price plus shipping. PM me :)

Speak your mind with your survey (if you were able to purchase one), that is what I'm about to do.

When pre-ordered my copy in-store (option online was long gone), they knew my email address from my RZ account because I received the CinemaNow code in my email later that day without having to give it to them at the register. So they know my account had one on pre-order, but I think that means shit...

Put me down as one who did not get their in-store preorder. Employee said they only got 3 and gave them out first come first serve on preorders. Stupid job. You're the reason I can't have nice things....and also the reason I can

Wow, that's ridiculous. Is there any way nowadays to perform online inventory checks of local stores (semi-accurately) via Best Buy SKUs or Product IDs for items like this that are "no longer available"? There used to be a method of opening the store search page for another item then replacing the SKU number in the address bar with the item you were actually looking for, which would bring up the local search for the item you actually wanted.

FYI the SKU for this is 4264306

Lots of horror stories starting around page 54 of the thread here

I was lucky enough to get my pre-order, but it was sitting on the sales floor. Also, did not work correctly to pick up, they had to do an exchange instead of a pickup.

Wow I really hope I don't have any problems picking up my Mad Max  steelbook

Same thing here. Heard he horror stories over on the bluray.com forums so I ran to the store when they opened. There were two guys waiting out front and I was a little worried they were competition based on my experiences with the GotG steel but it turns out they were there for other stuff. Right up front there were only three steels, which I grabbed (one for my pre-order, which I correctly assumed they didn't pull, and two more for friends) Went to the register and showed my receipt for the pre-order, which was paid in full, told the cashier I wanted to use the receipt for one of the three I grabbed and pay for the other two. This threw everything into tizzy as the SKU's for the pre-order was different (considered a bundle due to the Cinema Now code) than the SKU for the steelbook by itself. The cashier had no idea what to do so she called her lead who didn't know what to do either. She had to call corporate to figure out she needed to do an exchange. So what should've taken 1-2 minutes took about 15. Just glad I was able to get one but wish the 3D disc was included. Hope the Age of Ultron steel goes better than this.

According to their support they are "working hard" to get everyone their copies and to check with their local stores to work with them. Sounds like a canned answer and likely won't amount to anything. Anyone hear any news of a restock on the horizon?

A restock would be nice, but they've taken the listing completely off of .com, my wife and I are on vacation and was hoping to grab one here, Went early Tuesday but they were all out, guest service said yhem got none, someone at the registers said they had 6 but sold out at opening.

WOW...that thread reports a guy on eBay selling a bunch of them for "only" $59.99 each. And note the Best Buy blue colored shirt he is wearing in the reflection off the pile of MM: FR steelbooks...
*sigh* really sick of scalpers, ESPECIALLY when they're employees, I'm sure these never hit the floor. Haven't they limited these to one per person yet?

Edit: Just looked on ebay out of curiosity and found his, he's actually selling for $79.99, which he "handpicked" from the warehouse.

Apparently that ebay seller stole that pic from that bluray.com forum thread. An actual Best Buy employee posted it much earlier in the thread...not sure if that employee bought them or just took the pic of inventory at a particular store to share with the forum.

However, here are the details of Best Buy's attempts to "make good" on all the people that preordered via the in store cards or online in-store pickup that got completely screwed. $10 giftcard...

After reading the posts in here, I am very glad I called the store for my pre-order yesterday and had them put one aside.  My plans for this morning changed and I was able to run over to BB before work and pick up my steelbook.

I'll echo my sentiments from what I found in-store:

* My pre-order had to be done as an exchange and not a pickup fulfillment due to the bundle SKU shown on the pre-order card, since the SKUs didn't match.

* The CS rep who checked me out was the same one I talked with on the phone yesterday and she told me that 4-5 people weren't able to get their pre-orders fulfilled because of the system not working to let them know about the pre-orders.  She said they weren't pleased.   Mine was the only one pulled and set aside at the CS desk because I had called them first thing to put it aside, plus it was the last copy in the store at the time,

* The only way I was able to get my pre-order pulled and held was giving them the info off of the receipt showing the register # and transaction # of my pre-order transaction.

* The new display rack had a nice hole for the item matching the SKU # of the steelbook without any copies there.

Basically, had I not called yesterday, I would have been shit out of luck.  Thankfully, the SB copy I picked up had my name all over it, plus my phone number and a back-office print of the receipt. I didn't think I had any reason to think it was going anywhere, though hearing the horror stories, I'm glad I'm done with it.

BB online ordering for this movie can go suck a big bag of sweaty balls.

Says available for store pickup too? Just ordered one.
I'm trying to fiddle with ordering one now for in store pickup as well - it initially shows multiple stores to select from yet each of them switches to "not available" when selecting a particular store...except for the Woodland Hills store, which is also the only store that shows up when I add more than 1 to my cart (3 is the max). So, if anyone in L.A. is looking for it, I would try to place an online order at Woodland Hills - or get over there posthaste with fingers crossed.

When you put it for in-store pickup, it goes to check inventory, which I think for this item the 2nd day of release, is likely a bit "fluid" to say the least.

You can always toss one out there for in-store pickup and make them do the work for you, taking a chance that it will get picked or not picked. The backup is that if it isn't available for in-store pickup, you can move it to another store or get it shipped for free.

I did the preorder card in store a few weeks back. I went to pick it up yesterday and they didn't have it. Turns out the sku on the back on the preorder card is different than the sku on the actual steelbook. System never triggered them to pull it according to the general manager because of the different sku numbers. He was able to get one from another store for me. Since I had to go back today to pick it up, he took it down to $10.

The SKU was a bundle SKU for the CinemaNow copy and the SB That was the reason why they had to do a exchange since it wasn't the right SKU.

You just had to go back a page:

My online order for the MM steelbook came as the 3d copy. Called customer service and they were no help.
Guess that was too hard to click back one page.
