Getting back on topic- Here are a couple of points I wanted to add.
1. I recall a lot of Adult DVDs are going for $35-50 a pop at the store. That's a lot more than the legitimate movies you find at Best Buy which cost millions of dollars to produce.
2. I don't know why some people in the Wired video keep refering to themselves as Artists. Is Porn really an Art? Some of it is perhaps but seeing a guy lick someone chick's taint doesn't fall in my personal defination of art. Thats just me though.
3. If the Porn industry fails, I think people are still gonna upload amateur videos of themselves (which seems more realistic than the overproduced, bad acted professional stuff).
4. Do people really sympathize with Porn actors and directors?
5. This article on CNN mentions how Porn is driving technology:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/04/23/porn.technology/index.html?npt=NP1
So I find it kinda strange that they are one of the last industries to deal with the piracy issue.
1. Blu-rays are 30-50ish, DVDs tend to run in the 20 or less range, with fancier packaging being 25-30, or the rare odd title like Mandy Candy (Kimberly Kane + Mandy Morbid = win. Hell, anything with Mandy = win) go for 30ish.
2. Some stuff is more artsyish, it depends. A gangbang isn't art, but some porn is a bit more unique than others. I still want one that has Combichrist for a soundtrack.
3. Amateur videos are terrible. If I wanted to see some random people have ugly, sloppy sex, I would look out the window.
4. Most of them I can care less about, but there are a few I like. (Mandy Morbid, Kimberly Kane, Joanna Angel, many people on BurningAngel, especially Misti Dawn and Jessie Lee, rest of the industry can go rot.)
5. Meh, they've been trying to deal with piracy for a long time actually, for the longest time most places felt it best to ignore it and hope it gains them more customers, instead of going the RIAA/MPAA approach of pissing off all of the customers.
