Stupid K-Mart return policy

I just found out K-Mart's return policy requires you to return items at the same store you originally bought them from.

Which means I have to drive 30+ miles to return the games I bought on a whim, even though it doesn't state ANYWHERE in their return policy on the receipt or in store.

They're less advanced than GameStop...

Sounds like the store didn't want to take the games back unless this was just implemented. Less than 2 months ago I returned a game I bought at another K-Mart

I would wait a day or two, and go back. You could have had a lazy associate who just didn't feel like doing the return. We used to do this all the time when I worked at a different retail chain, just because we didn't feel like dealing with a customer.

its not in their return policy....you got screwed

Only thing I buy at K-Mart are bandai america Godzilla vinyls, and those comes in fairly open packaging so no need to return em since I can inspect em for damage. I fear that store though. It smells like rednecks and most of the vehicles outside are trucks or half-broken cars. (No joke.) Then about 50% of the people inside are 300lb+ obese.

so nice of you to profile people, and hate on them, lol

just call the number and complain

Hopefully that's not true or some new rule as I buy stuff from stores at home and school so I end up doing returns to different stores.

I've done the returns to a local store thing before with games I bought at out of town Kmarts, just so if I truly wanted one of those clearance games, they'd be at my LOCAL store for me to easily grab.

Last time I went in my local kmart, I'd say there where 3 people of a healthy weight. I'm also not lying about the amount of trucks too. Plus, if you listen to or happen to see the disputes among the people there, I'd say redneck definitely fits. May be YMMV for this experience though.

Trust me I understand completely, I'm about 45 mins from you

Interesting. I was about to return some of the Kmart clearance games that I ended up getting cheaper (like EBA from CC) and planned to take them to the closest store. I don't think I've had a problem like that before - I've returned a few things there. In fact, I went there and adjusted some prices (did return/repurchases) when the games dropped in price a couple months back using receipts from 3 or 4 different Kmarts ;). The ONLY store I've ever had not take returns from another location was Gamecrazy. I've done it a few times at EB/GS.

there's actually quite a few store chains that do this, some just won't enforce it.

It's because if you buy an item at Store A, and it's defective and try to return to Store B, it actually counts against Store B's numbers (not sure how). So they don't like taking things back from other stores. Rather then discriminate against taking back only defective things, some stores will deny all returns from other stores
I think the REAL question is..

Why did you buy something from k mart?
You're kidding, right?

The only problem I have come across with kmart is their absoultely no return without a receipt even if it has a kmart price tag on it but a lot of stores are doing this now so thats in the past. Unless the store has a sign up stating this is their policy I would call corporate on them.

I snagged a core 360 for 224.xx(somehow I managed to get 20 instead of 10). That's the extent of how much I've even used my associate discount there in a year and half. They usually don't give sears employees 10% off of sale prices, so it's basically a useless discount. I'm not driving to the local k-shithole to save 6 bucks on a game. Like they'll have it anyways.
You're kidding, right?
Ha, let him wallow in his ignorance ;).

I'll give him a hint: I've gotten a big chunk of my 360 collection from Kmart at dirt cheap prices. I've been enjoying one of those ~$5 games this week - Tomb Raider Legend.

I called up the customer service line and they told me the same thing. I didn't have time to argue so I left.

Well, I'm going to try returning some stuff today with 2 receipts that aren't from the store I'm going to. We'll see what happens. I'd hate to have to go to the original stores for this as I only have a few days left on the 90 day return period.

this isnt true. ive returned many games to different stores that i did not buy the games from. they really screwed you over on this one. time to call corporate..

A month ago I tried to return a couple of the clearance games to another Kmart (A) near me and they wouldnt accept it. They offered me store credit, which i didnt want. They told me I had to return it to the Kmart (B) that I had originally bought it from. It sucks because I went to Kmart (B) to return the items I bought from there and returned other items from another Kmart (C) there with no problem.

Well, djkunai, with all your luck flipping games to GR and finding awesome clearance deals and whatnot I don't feel too bad about this but I was able to return 4 games from 2 receipts neither of which was from the store I went to. They had zero issue with it other than asking the supervisor if returns were allowed on games ("yes, if they are unopened").

To top it all off on one of the receipts I had used that 10% off "New Mover's" coupon and they did not remove that discount. I guess that is simply applied to the total and since I only returned 2 out of 8 or so items they didn't even notice it. I'm not sure they'd even know how to handle that if they did, actually.

Now there's a couple of extra EBA and Contact sitting at the "best" Kmart in my area awaiting further drops ;).

I stepped foot in my local K-Mart a couple of weeks back only to see if they had a 60GB PS3 (some guy said the one by him had 4 on the shelf). Sure enough they had a new in box (covered in dust) 60GB sitting between the 40 and 80GB models. I snatched it up since BC is the most important thing for me.

However, one poster is right. It is redneck heaven and there was ONE cashier working mid-Saturday morning. With over 10 people in line you can tell how much they're hurting money-wise. I wish they'd roll over and die. I thought Wal-Mart was bad but K-Mart is Wal-Mart's BEE-OTCH.

My funniest K-mart experience, when I was trying to get Mass Effect early:

Me: Hello, I'm calling to see if you have Mass Effect in stock.
Ghetto-sounding woman: Ya lookin' for what?
Me: Mass Effect.
GSW: Do you mean the system or the game?
Me: .........um...the game?
I think the REAL question is..

I'll venture a guess at trying to flip them, only to find the value is crap.

How many things were you trying to return?

Well, you guys can put down Kmart all you want, but it was by and far the best game retailer for me last year. I filled out my 360 library quite nicely with $4-$7 games from there ;).
