Didn't see the topic for Target's Blus/DVDs featured and on sale this week, and in any case there were quite a few $9.99 blus on sale that aren't in the ad...any thoughts on whether Speed Racer is worth the $10?

I'm not sure all of these are valid in store (didn't see Pandorum or Shawn of the Dead in store, on sale or otherwise), but I did see Speed Racer and Kung Fu Hustle for $9.99 along with most of the rest of these. Most of them are the usual suspects for sales (along with the ones on sale for $14.99)

Target Blus under $15

I left out all the TV movie and whatnot.

There's lots of stuff online for $10.xx, $11.xx, $12.xx etc. as well. The $14.99 stuff is mostly blus that have been on sale/discount for cheaper either past or present. Although there are a couple of 2 packs like Predator/Commando for $15, better than the $10 each they are in store this week...

seems like the same stuff that's always $9.99 with the addition of Law Abiding Citizen (man this must've flopped), Collateral Damage and American Gangster. I might actually be in for American Gangster.

Thanks Sarang and VipFreak for the intel on Speed Racer and Kung Fu Hustle...and yeah Scorch, I hear you - that's why I said these are mostly the usual suspects that have been on sale/discounted constantly and at numerous retailers.

I think I got most of these when they were previously $9.99 or even less at Target on sale before the holidays last year with the $5 Target coupon off any blus = $4.99

But I did pick up King Kong this morning.

But not bad prices for a lot of these, in case people missed out on sales on them previously. Hopefully amazon will pricematch them within a couple of days.

Just watched Law Abiding Citizen last night and it was passable until the last 5 minutes, then it turned into a mediocre film.
Many of these tittles have been $10 on amazon, there is a thread about them if people are interested.

I don't know anyone else who has seen Speed Racer, so this is me, saying

Speed Racer is the most visually stunning movie I've ever seen, and it would be a disservice to your blu-ray player not to own it at this price.

The final race is better than drugs, and I've tried my fair share. Seriously, this movie is just insane.

Anyway, thanks for the list!

Call me crazy, but I enjoy watching Law Abiding Citizen.

speed racer is tempting, but i'm in the process of moving and am unsure of what movies i already have :/ (that's when you know your collection is growing out of control!) haha

I saw the movie. As someone that saw random episodes of the cartoon and did not like it, I can tell you that the movie was a huge surprise. It was pretty damn good. Even my wife enjoyed it. I'll definitely see if my Target has it.

I've never seen it. Although, now that I think of it... I just remember I was confusing it with the animated panda one... (never seen it too). Well, I guess it could... but I've never seen a movie that's been censored before. At least that I can recall.

My local Target's selection blows, so I highly doubt I'll find any of the movies I want from this list. I really hope Amazon price matches these!
Too bad the DNR in Speed Racer is an atrocity.
The movie itself was an atrocity....and I actually knew someone who worked on it... I fell asleep during the movie ...glad I only wasted time Netflixing it.
In for King Kong! I really enjoy that movie, and I'm surprised that it gets so little love.
Its a tad long, not that good anyway, and many of us have owned it on HD DVD for the past 4 years.

Kung Fu Hustle, if anything, for me.
I've seen Kung Fu Hustle a 100 times, and I never knew they made cuts in the region 1 version either. :hot:

http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/kung-fu-hustle-region-1-cuts.html

^^ Here is an article describing the cuts. Nothing too drastic, which makes it kind of odd they bothered with any cuts, especially since the movie is rated R.
I believe the Axe-Kicking version on DVD restored some of the bloody scenes but they have not ported this version to BluRay yet.

Are some of the older titles (pre-2000) really worth buying on blu? I don't think they shot these in hi-def in the first place so is there any difference from getting them on cheaper dvd's (or vhs!)?
I too really enjoyed law abiding citizen. Thinking of getting if amazon pms
I also enjoyed LAC. The movie was seriously a very good modern thriller up until the compleeeeetely nonsensical ending.
I haven't seen Lock Stock n 2 smoking barrels that cheap. I have never seen it but may do a blind buy on it.
It's a fun movie. Also recommend watching Snatch if you haven't seen it.

Dude, PLEASE tell me you're kidding. You're right, the movies were shot on film, which has a much higher resolution than 1080.

Yeah, i've seen, enjoyed, and own Snatch. Just have never had the chance to watch Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels.

1. To the first page question, I did not see the ultimate hunters edition.

2. The regular first release blu ray predator did not scan at register for 9.99, I'm in NYC.

If anyone knows different let me know. Thanks.
Don't buy "Kung Fu Hustle" people. The U.S. version is censored. Get the HK or Korea version instead. Neither are censored.
How's the quality of the English subtitles on the HK or Korea versions, though? While any cuts/changes are annoying, the ones listed in the link Walt Jay posted seem reasonably minor overall. I'd honestly rather deal with a few minor cuts that I probably wouldn't even notice anyway than have to watch the whole film in Engrish.
Yeah, i've seen, enjoyed, and own Snatch. Just have never had the chance to watch Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels.
I own Snatch as well, but enjoy Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels considerably more. I thought it was the more clever and amusing movie of the two, overall.

heh, shows how much i know about filming... thanks for the info :)

Sorry if I came off like an ass on that. I'm a self-confessed film snob. I've got a buddy who's a filmmaker and won't even bother to screen his stuff (privately or in public) unless the projector is at least a 4K. 1080 just isn't good enough for him. After seeing it first hand, I'd have to agree.

Earlier this week I bought Kung Fu Hustle and 2001: A Space Odyssey for $10 each. I rented 2001 before on Blu-Ray and it looks unbelievably amazing and definitely a must own. Don't really care about the Kung Fu Hustle edits. Also Kung Fu Hustle came with $10 movie cash for current releases like Eat, Pray, Love, The Other Guys, and SALT, so it is definitely worth the $10.
No, it's the third one: Tokyo Drift. I was hoping it was the first one as well.
I saw the second and third ones for $9.99 today.
Damn! I recently payed $19.99 each for Hot Fuzz & Shaun of the Dead :(
If your within the return period from where you recently bought them, just buy them at target for $9.99 and then return them to the other store using that receipt.

Target had Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Running Man Blu-ray for $9.99 a few weeks back. I snagged the last copy :)

Haven't seen any post that yet.
