TG-16 CD and Super CD games to be offered on VC worldwide

Yeah, it's becoming more and more clear that there has to be some sort of storage solution in the mix or pretty soon one of the VC games available is going to exceed the internal memory.

I hope so. All I want is the ability to hook up an external hard drive or thumb drive. That would be the sweetest thing ever.
What storage problem? Just delete each game after you play them and redownload later!

I hope Nintendo's "big" announcement this month is a storage device (or more SD functionality) but I'm betting it is going to be the Japan-only VC games.

From Kotaku

The TurboGrafx-16 is a nice addition to the Virtual Console. Don't get me wrong. But it'd be nice to have more. Hudson know what I'm talking about! They've announced that, starting next month, they'll be rolling TurboGrafx CD and TurboDuo games onto the Wii's retro catalogue. Games from both systems will set you back 800 points, and the plan is to make them available across all regions. Yes, Europe and Australia, that includes you as well. As for games, Yes Book I & II and Chou Aniki will be amongst the first available. Took them long enough, but between today's other announcement and this Nintendo finally seem to be coming around to just why we were so excited about the Virtual Console in the first place.

So it looks like.. starting in October..? But they don't make it clear if it's October for everyone or not..?

Book I & II and Chou Aniki are the first games though. Never heard of either of them .. sigh

Then his response would have to change to "Download half of it, play the first half, delete it, and download the second half!"

 No kidding.

I think I remember reading about the TG-16 Ys games when I was a kid in EGM or something. I still remember the screenshots.

Oh man.

I wish I could see the look on lilboo's face when he finds out what Chou Aniki is.

Y's books 1 and 2 are classics...I hope the music is spot on...Probably going to be tough to do, no?

Anyhow, This is great news...Gate of Thunder and Lords of Thunder!!!

Ys (Ys Books I & II) are pretty fun, if shallow, side-scrolling RPG type games. They remind me of the NES classic Faxanadu, but marginally improved.

Cho Aniki...shiiiiiit, boyo. Lemme put it to you this way: you know those "International Male" catalogs you have sitting around your apt? Take those and R-Type, and blend until creamy.
DRACULA X: RONDO OF BLOOD NOW, PLEASE.
Thanks for the obvious, overhyped nonsense. Personally, I'm hoping for "It Came From the Desert!"

!!

I just searched it.. oh man DAY ONE PURCHASE JUST FOR A HEARTY LAUGH!!!!!

$8 to be WELL spent! I look forward to this! :applause:
I've actually seen this before on sites, I just never knew the name of this game series. Too funny!

Haha, Chou Aniki!!!

Are you kidding me?!

I actually had a PSX import of one of them.... I was just curious...

Hehe, found it. I had this one:

Heheh, it will be a spectacle.

And I'd care about Dracula X potentially coming out on the VC if it weren't headed to the PSP... there's really nothing aside from Castlevania that I'd want from the TG16 CD.

JB Harold Murder Club !

That game plays just like Phoenix Wright, except more life-like since the interogations are at police HQ instead of the court room. The characters aren't quite as over-the-top, but the fun and intrigue is the same.

Ys I and II aren't side-scrolling. The only side-scrolling Ys game is Ys III, which is the only game in the series you could even remotely compare to Faxanadu. Jeez, dude, don't advise on a game that you don't know the first damned thing about.

Someone yell at this troll the same way they would yell at me for busting into a thread and bashing a game that everyone else likes, for no purpose other than to get a rise.

There is no way - NO WAY they'd put this game on the Virtual Console.

A release in the Japanese region wouldn't surprise me at all, but I seriously, seriously doubt that they'd make Chou Aniki available across all regions.

Bah! I merely glanced at the title and saw "S--- CD", clicked the link, glanced and saw Snatcher listed and nearly shat a brick...until I found out it WASN'T the Sega CD that was being added. :( Granted, a good chunk of the games sucked, but having Snatcher or Lunar would be awesome.

I can't tell if you are aware or unaware that Snatcher was available on the Super CD or not.

Because it was. Meaning it could appear.

Only in Japan.

Name one Japanese game that ventured into the US VC that wasn't available in the US before.

Battle Lode Runner.

Next question please.
Battle Lode Runner.

One that WASN'T virtually import friendly. With Snatcher, they'd have to actually work on a translation for the Super CD version since you couldn't really just bring it in untranslated.
One that WASN'T virtually import friendly.
Then make the question clearer next time.

Throwing on a bunch of modifiers and additional qualifications after the fact makes it look like you don't know what you are talking about.

They already have a translation in place. I don't know anything about translating ROMs and the like, but it's already been done, and they could use it as a template for another version. That's at LEAST half the battle.

All I know about ROM hacking for languages is that you've got to balance translating it correctly with data size limitations. As in you can't just erase the Japanese next and put in English - it has to fit in the memory allocation provided.

I'm not saying it will come out. I'm saying it is available, and if someone wants to be given the task of translating it, then the possibility is there. Of course I don't think Nintendo will actually do it - it requires time and money. And as they've repeatedly shown, this is not something they are readily willing to do with the VC, since the VC represents almost pure profit, and taking away from that would be a big no-no in their eyes. (Ad replacement in Wave Race and other small modifications are about as drastic as we'll get, I imagine.)
One that WASN'T virtually import friendly. Lost Levels, Super Mario's Picross, and Sin & Punishment have started a trend.

Let's not forget that Super CD's version of Snatcher ended up being somewhat censored for the Sega CD version for a few paticular reasons (panty snatching, finding a porn tape and Katrina actually being 14 and not 18, as well as seeing her in the shower). :p

Maybe to happen in Japan. Not likely to fly with the US version unless they chose to give it the Sega CD style edits.
Oh man.

It's the best game to ever appear on Broken Pixels.

You know what's the hardest part about playing Chou Aniki?
Telling your parents you're gay.

That would be completely bad ass.

I believe that it's confirmed for Europe, but not the US.

I heard it was Australia. Well, either way, it bodes well for a US release.

Nintendo Of Germany (and probably every other major European branch office) has sent out a newsletter saying that they will be celebrating the Hanabi Festival. Over the course of this festival they will release the games previously unreleased in Europe.

It started last Friday with the so called "Mario week" featuring:

- Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (NES, 600 Wii Points) (limited release, only availabe until Sep. 30th)
- Mario Picross (SNES, 900 Wii Points)

Starting Sep. 21st will be "Ninja week" with:

- Ninja Gaiden (NES, 600 Wii Points)
- Ninja JaJamaru-Kun (NES, 600 Wii Points)

The festival's last week is starting Sep. 28th. It's called "Sci-Fi week" and will be featuring:

- Sin & Punishment (N64, 1000 Wii Points)
- Gradius 3 (SNES, 900 Wii Points)
The chances of Cho Aniki coming to the North American VC are less than zero.
I think I need to start a letter writing campaign to Hudson Soft USA then. It could be the first M rated VC game.
