GS FAQ

Where is the weekly ad?
They ended the weekly ad for more rotation of deals. Please check the homepage and deal link for the current deals.

I can't find a trade in value for an item?
It might not be tradable or calling a store to find the value may be the only option.

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

Are there trade limits?
Yes, $500 cash minus some electronic trade ins and or $2000 trade credit in a rolling 30 day period.

Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

It's been awhile since I traded games in to GameStop, and I've not really been keeping up (and their website isn't particularly transparent). As far as maximizing values for games traded in, I assume the best return is to pre-order a game during trade in. Not factoring in Pro, is that a 20% or 30% boost to the base value currently?

I'm probably going to trade in the Series S I got from the Verizon deal toward a PS5, but I wanted to see if it was worth it to part with some Switch games temporarily while values are inflated to cut the remainder down. Thanks!
Sounds like you're right

Pre-order with high value games to get 20-30% bonus

Play game for 1-2 months (longer if Switch game)

Trade back towards next pre-order

Depending if you're in a crappy state that charges tax on the pre-credit total, you can treat GS as a rental store for nearly nothing. Just rolling the dice if your game is going to hold its value.

I also tried trading ps5 and did not get the bump only in series s , switch and series x.

it's finally happened... I finally got a disc only New game. The employee even apologized LOL.

Wonder how fund it's gonna be to get this fixed, especial since it's got a $0 value (B1G1F)?

I have one of the most Wanted games in Elden ring for ps4. Am I correct that it trades in for $27.50 and if I use it towards a pre-order for a 20% bump, I will get $33 total trade-in credit? I can then just cancel the pre-order before the game comes out?

Torna is even more of a insane boomerang but for the most part the boomerang list hasn't changed. Still have those rare games on it like Guacmelee, Monster etc.

I got $91 for FF16 and Pokemon Scarlet. That will help me out on October 20th when I buy Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros Wonder.

I called my local store to see if they had the PS5 fat and the guy said yeah it’s $500. I asked him to check and he said yep, $500. I imagine the $50 discount happens during check out?

The store I went to today didn't think the Series S counted and was surprised when it rang up.

If anybody has traded 2 Xbox Series S in the same transaction, and got the $50 bonus for both please post.

Good and bad news with my trade ins:

Good - was able to dump a Series S, my launch PS4 and my launch Xbox One, plus $40 in points to cover tax (thanks PA) + $80 cash for a PS5 + an extra controller
What did the Series S trade in for? The bonus is towards PS5 only right?

Traded an original Switch Red/Blue Joy-cons (online said $143 trade but only got $110) with two extra Joy-cons and an Xbox Series S, walked out with a PS5 with disc drive for $15 and some change - the extra $50 trade credit applied to each console

Sorry, I couldn't find an answer but is the $50 bump for a Series S still good this week?  The ad banner is still on the site but couldn't find any fine print on how long it was supposed to run

I think gamestop and the USPS are run by the same people

Something is wrong with the label causing it to cycle around the USPS distro centers.  Dirt/smear of some sort can cause that.  It’s not like a person is looking at the package.  The scanners are having an issue with the label.

while i am sure you are right, it is pretty common for my packages to arrive in missouri, go to kansas, then come back to missouri. or even more common a package will ship from kansas, go to KC, MO, then back to KC, KS and again back to missouri. while i am sure they have their reasons, it is just a ridiculously wasteful process. this time being worse because I could have walked to St Joe by now and picked the package up.

Back before they got the new distribution centers whenever something was shipping from just a state away it would go around the outside of my state through multiple states instead of just going north and then arrive about 4days to a week or more later.

$143 is the V2 version of the Switch... model HAC-001(-01) is V2 you had HAC-001.

USPS is the WORST shipping option if you get it for GS.  They frequently will pick up packages once a week AT BEST at many locations.

it's weird because the first few skus on this list are ps5 consoles, but I haven't seen anyone report getting the bonus $50 when trading in a ps5.

I have bad timing as I seem to keep going to gs during their lunch break
My store has a note on the door that they go to lunch between 1 and 2 each day. So not sure if that is the standard time or if it's more random for other stores.

Finally got around to doing some trades today, been a busy weekend. Ended up with close to $300. Debating between a Q lite whenever it comes out or saving it for the super switch 2.

random thought but I cancelled a bunch of preorders yesterday and 2 of them were listed as not on file. i don't know what those games were, but in case people were hoping eventually pre orders drop off or something, they dont.

It’s got to depend on store because mine doesn’t open until noon and I would find it wild if they decided to go on lunch break after only being open for an hour.

Can I exploit the B1G1 free offer and return the one that was bought and keep the free one via online order to return in store?

The person at the mall GS I went to today took their lunch sometime before 5PM. The note said they were coming back at 5:35PM.

The last store was around 2 or 3PM but I always seem to show up right after they leave for lunch.

Did GS.com stop charging tax on trade credit orders if your billing address is in a state that doesn't charge tax on trade credit purchases? I just realized my pickup order from a state that charges tax for trade credit purchases doesn't have any tax.

Went in today for a discounted new PS5 controller. Price matched Walmart to save 99 cents (true CAG), used $5 reward certificate, used $5 monthly coupon and 2 gift cards. I reserved Mario wonder for a penny since they were cool about the rest.

Anyone know the max balance limit for a trade card? I'm nearing 1K after that MW bump. Hopefully values hold till tomorrow, I got 1 more round to make. Fully paid off MK1, my receipt didn't come with a beta code 🙃.

Had to go to a different GameStop after associate told me they don’t do trades half hour before close (is that a really a thing). Sucks if that really is a thing for that store/employee; the other store ended up benefiting from that weird rule! It was annoying to drive that far and had to go to another one but I ended up walking out with a PS5 without paying a dime and added MK1 for preorder trade bonus (would’ve gotten StarField but I’m playing that on GamePass)! Happy camper right now!

Unless things have changed drastically, the balance limit should still be $1k.
