ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Darkness is $26.99 before coupon & Edge, trades in at $25
HoV is $17.99 before coupon & Edge, trades in at $25
Bigs is $24.99 before coupon & Edge, trades in at $32

Don't do Darkness.
 
just go to the blockbuster website and it say's in tiny print on the gamerush page

i think some are finding darkness clearanced for $9.90 at toys r us, so look there if you can. mua/forza is too much trouble for me to print covers. kinkos and staples both denied me saying the images are copyrighted. im sure there may be some employees who don't give a damn tho.
 
marvel/forza bundle is the best, The bigs is second best.....,
By the way an update on my situation, AMY did not work today, I check my history receipt again and noticed she flagged my account when I wasn't even there during that time.
maybe she doesn't like that I periodically been trading games in there. oh well if she pisses me off, I'm just going to tell her to put my 114$ on a value card and I'll rent at another BB
Because thats the store I usually rent from.

another thing it's the older people(mid 40's) who are managers who are giving me problems like they have nothing better to do

does anyone know how much the ps3 systems they sell at BB? like what versions

from the site posted earlier in the thread, so far I've flipped 5 MUA/forza 2's(4 different stores)
since today was basically the last day to actually use the 25% off coupon at GS

Getting them's the easy part.... getting BB to accept them...is another story
I suggest that you go to different stores and also try to make the transaction as simple as possible to avoid getting flagged/banned
 
Yeah, I had no trouble with my 4 copies of monster madness to one store awhile back... so I dont think theyll care that much. Thanks though.
 
I still miss the 7.00 Monster Madness days....(PM'ed at Sears for 4.16 or something crazy) got my PSP and quite a few games with that little gem of a trade in.

I'm hoping another gem like that shows up soon... but till then I'm out of the trading game, too much hassle printing covers and finding boxes, etc etc. Keep the posts coming guys, just saying thanks for your efforts :)

Just bought around 9 copies of Motorstorm. I'm going to use a label maker on the discs that says "Buy your used games from GameFly" over the "not for resale" and then just print out regular covers.
 
just got my 40gb ps3 finally!!!! found a store in the valley had one left, and the General Manager rung me up, I was sorta worried considering I had 450 in credit but he didn't even care and ended up chatting about hd-dvd instead!:lol:
 
how to turn credit into cash (1:1 ratio) YMMV?

ok a little backstory, I bought a wireless 360 controller for $50 and I found that there was a DS Lite in stock at another BBV so I decided to return the controller (sealed n all) b/c i needed some more money for the DS. So when I returned it, the manager asked how did i purchase it. I said using store credit (it doesnt matter cause i'm buying a DS from another store anyways). The manager then said did i want it in cash or on a debit card. I said umm... can i just get it on the value card. the manager said he couldnt do it, so in the end I walked out with $50 cash.

So this may be YMMV or there might be an bug where you cannot load money onto the card from a return. So I bought a DSLite about 3 days ago and I'm planning to return it later tonight and I want to see if it will work again. Will tell you guys what happens later.
 
Id say when you guys get banned print out the trade agrement and put it on the car windshield of whoever banned you.
Just a fun idea.
 
Okay what is the best value right now? I currently have 636 bucks and dont know what to get with all of that? Should I bounce on the 80gb PS3 and ebay all the extra stuff? Or should I jump on the 40GB or should I look for DSLites at regular blockbusters which I seriously doubt exist? How is the 80gb packaged?

1 blockbuster put something on my account saying I had to trade in games with original artwork. All the artwork I printed out was from cdcovers, but I was running out of in k so everything printed out pink.. It was funny they accepted them..

I could already have a PS3 for probably 20 bucks less than what I spent on Gamestop to get to this point. Some fker at gamestop wouldnt let me use the 25% coupon on separate transactions. He said it was 1 per day and I said fck off. So I could of had 3 Copies of HOV, 2 Bigs and 1 F?MUA instead of just 2 HOV. Then I decided to buy a fcking Darkness at gamestop thinking it was worth 32. Traded it in at blockbuster and got 25 and spent 18.99... WHAT A WaSTE of time darkness trash was...

Yeah, so you say. My local GS's split the bundles up, which is hella lame. They literally cut the cover in half, put the Forza side in one case and the MUA side in another case. $29.99 and $17.99 each. It's these kind of practices that make me not shed a tear over ripping them off when I get the chance. Survival of the fittest.
 
actually how do you know a CAG or someone else didn't trade them in like that....

They have at least six identical "bundles" in one store. Your claim is possible, but highly unlikely. Nice of you to give the corporate machine the benefit of the doubt though. Keep sipping that kool-aid.

All GS stores I have gone to in this area have all the bundles split.
Pisses me off.

Was going to get some more HoV's today, but had to take wife out for dinner.
Oh well.
 
I have 4 more Marvel/Forzas to trade in and 1 of The Bigs and I will have turned $137 cash into $344 GR credit as long as all of this goes thru. I'm going to wait for a Wii or grab a PS3 now, or trade my old PSP in for a new one and pay for the rest of it with GR credit and then buy a Wii later. Lots of decisions...

All depends on region, some of the GS I've been to have the MUA/Forza bundle cover, but the sticker only says Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I also asked them about it and they said, "its how we sell it". Then I noticed a load of Forza 2s with no cover arts... =/

Some stores do split it, especially since they can make considerably more for it.
 
All the GS in West Michigan area split the bundles.
I directly asked at a couple of stores for the bundle and they told me they split it because they make more money that way. Sometimes being that honest with customers isn't the best policy.

2 or 3 at a couple of the stores I frequent.
 
I've cleaned out about 6 or 7 of the combos from 2 GameStops near me. I don't feel bad about taking all of them since they have been there for a long time and nobody else picked them up since the coupon became available (i Just started buying them the past couple of days). There's still one left at one of them, but there are dozens of forzas and marvels sold individually at these two stores.

I was trying to pick up the last two tonight before the store closed, but the guy told me "You're only allowed to buy one copy per game." I was very suprised, but I just picked up The Bigs to replace it which will give me a decent amount of money.
 
I checked the wiki and there wasn't a recent price for it, so I guess I'll ask:

I can get $70 at GameStop for it, but all my credit to buy the new one is at GameRush.

If they split the bundle, then they should give you the value of BOTH games when you trade it in.

Well, it has been a while since I've set foot in my local GameRush/Blockbuster store (Yes, it still has a GameRush section, recently been reorganized too). But I did notice two used game prices that stood out to me for the 360:
Virtua Fighter 5 Online: $39.99
Stranglehold: $29.99

I was tempted to pick up VF5, but I decided against it for now, since they had quite a few used copies of it.

Gamestop ad just popped on website, used game of the week is MLB 2k7 for $16.99 minus edge card it'd be $15.29. Doubt this is worth what Motorstorm was getting last week.

So.... any word of Lost Odyssey for purchase? :D It's not getting the best reviews, though, which is leaving me a bit nerved. What do you guys think?

oh and how the heck did that guy find a 60gig..... they only sell 40 and 80's here.... which sucks and all the 80gb's are that stupid bundle for 599$

Well here is how the day went. Arrived at bb this morning and purchased the PS3 80gb for 649.99. It ended up costing me roughly 300 bucks. About an hour later I received a call from a bb manager telling me my account had been suspended and to call him. I called him and he had done a thorough investigation of my trading over the last few days, but the thing that jumped out at the DM was the fact that some of the artwork on the front was printed out. That is was really fcked me over, was printing out the artwork. Anyways I was able to have my trading account unsuspended but have to make sure the artwork is original and I cant do massive dumping of games like I had been. 7 HOV, 5 Bigs, 6 Forzas etc....

What the fck can I do with this big stupid PS3 bundle that cost me 649.99 bucks? Can I return it and get cashback?
