The CAG Backlog Support Group.

I'm glad I found this thread. With the new year I was feeling the need to focus more on my backlog. In the process of setting up Backloggery. I have a modest goal of completing 20 games this year. Currently playing Dragon Age II as it has been in my backlog for three years and I felt I should finish it before playing Inquisition.
Depending on how many games and how much time you have, you may be able to knock out a few short ones in a weekend. 20 is a totally doable goal.

This is an amazing thread. Glad I clicked on the link in your Sig.

My backlog was getting out of hand last year. I had about 20 unplayed games on my 360 and another 10-15 on my One. I decided to trade my 360 for a PS4. And now in a span of 4 months I have 8 untouched PS4 games to go with my unplayed One games, with more incredible exclusives coming for the PS4 later this year. With a girlfriend, work, and gym time, I rarely find time to game as much as I used to. I think my solution is to stay away from 50-100 hour open world games as much as possible and focus more on bite-sized games so I can work through my backlog quicker.

Just wanted to vent. Thanks guys.

Done with Dead Rising.  I haven't felt that accomplished since I beat Ninja Gaiden: Black.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER:   If you decided never to play this game again and would like to maybe give it another try, do not, I repeat, do not play without a guide!  Especially if your play time is limited and you have a backlog.  There are things, moments, and situations in this game that I would have never discovered, that are critical, and that make the game much less frustrating than when I didn't use a guide years ago.  I used IGN's Dead Rising guide along with YouTube ONLY when I found myself stuck for more than 30-45 minutes.  There are some people who have figured out ways of making the worst battles and missions the easiest.

It was a pretty good game and I understand why it has the fan following.  I also understand why it generates so much disdain.  The save system is critical to progress.  I found myself being very particular of knowing when to save and when not to save my game.  Sometimes saving can involve a minute or two of thought because I wanted to make sure that I was saving at the right time and in/at the right place.  As I've mentioned before, I had to re-start the game but I still had all of my skill upgrades and level-ups so it kind of made it easier for me to get back to the point was at before I had to start over.

The escort missions can be frustrating and troublesome but perspective is key.  I played not being dead set on rescuing people.  If I had the time and when it was convenient I would pursue.  If I didn't have to hold their hand or carry them on their back I would not walk close to them.  If they start calling for help then I would make my way back to help.

Another issue I had was the zombies.  They grab you...a lot.  When walking from point a to point b you just have to say to yourself that a zombie or two is going to grab me AND it may be at a time when I SERIOUSLY don't need them to.

Last but not least, the convicts in the park re-spawn.  Yep, you heard it right!  If you kill them and think they are dead permanently, think again.  The good thing is once I learned how to take them out the first time, they became a piece of cake every time after.

The story is good.  The cut scenes were great.  I found myself actually caring for some of the characters.  The villains are some of the best I've seen in a video game.

I'm so looking forward to playing part 2.  I've read there are some issues that have been resolved.

Now on to Sly Cooper!

I have knocked out a couple of games in the last two weeks

1. Kirby's Triple Deluxe

2. The Evil Within

3. Far Cry 4

4. Danganronpa 2

5. Tales of Xillia (2nd Playthrough)

Once I get the platinum in Tales of Xillia, I will try to finish up Fire Emblem Awakening, Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus, and Zelda Wind Waker Hd. I'm very close to beating all three games, so I am hoping to knock them out this weekend :)

ok after being sidetracked so many times i have finally beat persona 4 golden and that game was amazing definitely one of my personal favorites and is a must own game for the vita. Well now to do decide what i should start on next :whistle2:k

Arggg... this is the bane of my backlog - bought it with my Vita and the furthest I've got into it is about 10 hours. I'm always afraid I'm doing something wrong and start 2nd guessing my decisions. Then comes a week I can't play and it's start over time. 100+ hours is just soooo daunting.

How was Danganronpa 2? Never played the first but the 2nd looked really interesting when it came out.

yeah it was a long game and there is so much grinding to do but i loved every minute of it i will say is that the only boss i had trouble with was shadow mitsuo and one more thing it only took me 50-60 hours to beat the main story. I might start a new game on higher difficulty and i might try to platinum it later on cause i really enjoyed it.

It was really, really good. Better than the first one for sure, though the first one is really good too. You don't have to play the 1st game to get understand the story for the second game, you just wouldn't understand the occasional reference to the first game.

It was probably my favorite vita game of 2014, I highly recommend it!

I tried, I really did. It charmed me in the beginning. I made it passed the first of the 5 (the frog) and a little ways through the next level. I kept dying! The one hit kill from the enemies and ESPECIALLY the death by water - even when he's touching the edge of a platform - just soured the experience for me. I was really looking forward to this too since I'm an Infamous fan and......

....OK fine, I'll give it another shot!

That problem with the water will be solved soon

Working on ff13-3 right now about half way through snows quest and then all thats left is the final chapter thing I read.

Beat Far Cry 4 for the 2nd time. First was on PS4 and now i beat it on Xbox One. Dat final showdown mission

Better in some ways worse in others.  The writing outside the plot is extremely well done especially sidequests.  The gameplay is mixed.  It starts out much slower than 13-2 and the lack of party members is a major blow.  The battle system is faster some of the time but anything without weaknesses or overly resistent enemies take forever to kill.  Money and drop rates are pretty low.  Sidequests prettymuch force you to waste time since they can only be done during certain hours.  The warren being one of the dumbest since its locked during almost all hours of the game so you have to wait till the day is over every time to get in there.  Some sidequests have to be repeatedly back an forth each day and the seer one required you to go back at a specific time even but I forgot.

The atb gauges fill too slowly until you get accessories to increase the speed.  That slows down combat considerably especially against tougher enemies.  Decent spells being locked behind enemy drops and the occasional rare chest also annoy me.  Unless you look at a guide you'll be stuck with tier 1 spells for some of the game.

Charging for teleporting was stupid especially when there are so few options.  I prefer xillias quick travel system.

Its time stop system is good though and whoops the pants off the mess that was majoras mask.

All in all its a decent game but I would of preferred a mix of it and 13-2 but with human party members and actual ai set ups like in tales of or ff12.

First off I just want to thank everyone for keeping this thread strong for the last year. I really appreciate everyone coming here and sharing their stories and giving encouragement to other people trapped in BacklogHellTopia. I figured since the end of the year is coming...we should maybe post our favorite games, that we knocked out of our backlog. It doesn't have to be games released in 2014, but maybe a top 3-5 or 10 if you are so inclined.

Just going through my list quickly, my highlights, in no particular order are:
FarCry4
Diablo 3
Transistor
Lego Marvel
South Park Stick of Truth
Dead Pool
Outlast

Thanks again everyone! Let's make 2015 the year we destroy our Backlogs!
I didn't beat many games in 2014, but my favorites would be The Wolf Amongst Us and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. I really dug both (only played SP in AW). The other few games I beat are ones I enjoyed, but I didn't think they really stood out either.

I keep meaning to pick up GTA V. I still haven't played it. I thought I might get it as a Christmas present but that didn't happen. Right now I'm still trucking through Suikoden 2.
No need to think of any other games when you are playing Suikoden II. It is still one of the only few games I would rate as a 10/10.

So finished A Bird Story yesterday and Tales of Hearts R today. Good weekend for gaming. Might even finish Rhythm Thief tonight. I'm realizing now just how many games I started and didn't finish last year. Hoping to clean most of those up before starting new games.

You were absolutely right! So I've really got the hang of it now. I just beat the second boss (big armed dog) and I'm starting to see a lot of where Infamous gets the gameplay from. ALSO, even though I recently sold the Jak & Daxter collection, I'm thinking about purchasing it again because of this game.

Mirror's Edge is much better. Really cool game that I plan on going back and playing again someday (due to limited game time, I rarely do this).
So far it seems to be about timing and trial and error.

I've also finished WANTED: Weapons of Fate. One of the shortest games ever. It was filler for buy 2 get one free used sale. The game was ok but nothing to keep.

Now along with Sly Cooper, I've started Ninja Blade.

Jak and Daxter is really fun

Again I like 1 the best, 2 is like wtf happened, and 3 is good. You'll get burnt out playing it after Sly though IMO

Bayonetta 2 is done. It was good but i didnt think it was really awesome or mind blowing though. It got kinda repetitive but the graphics and framerate are great.

wat du fack!? Why did snakey got banned?
No kidding. He was a long time member.
He has been banned before, and he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way in other threads. He made a lot of inappropriate comments, and I think people started reporting him to the mods.

I personally never had a problem with him, but like I said his "sense of humor" didn't sit will with every member.

ah, I see. He was a cool guy (from what I read from him). Hope he's able to come back, and not have any problems again.

On Topic: I finished the main story in Captain Toad. I want to 100% it but its gonna take a long time. The Time Trials are ridiculously difficult to beat.

I finished Suikoden 2 last night. Great game start to finish. I have all the PS2 games but I'm holding off on playing 3 right away. Right now I want to focus on Wonderful 101 and Pokemon Omega Ruby. Besides I've barely touched Smash Wii-U

I finished about 15 games last year not counting expansions like Burial at Sea and a few others. I'd like to clear 20 games this year, but that's going to be tough as my time is limited with work, a wife and a kid. I just finished Killzone: Mercenary last week though, so I'm off and running. My console backlog isn't too bad. I have to finish GTAV, and Diablo isn't even opened on Xbox One, I'm pretty up to date on PS4 outside of some downloadable titles like Strider and Dead Nation. I have to start Freedom Wars and finish FFX on Vita. There's too much to mention on Steam.

I usually focus on one main single player campaign per console. I'm playing Dragon Age on PS4, and Wolfenstein on PC. I haven't decided on what to tackle next on Xbox yet. Too much Titanfall/Halo 5 Beta/Evolve Beta.

So by chance while thinking about my next JRPG to go through I found my old DS Lite with Final Fantasy III. I forgot that I was half way through it about a couple years ago. The dungeon I'm trying to beat is tough as nails especially with Phoenix Down's being super rare in the game. But damnit I'm going to beat it.

Decided to start hdn 3 victory since I have it digital from that cheap psn sale last year.  So far its soso writing is quirky but sometimes it feels like they drag conversations out instead of getting to the point.  Combats kinda bare bones.  basically feels like arc the lad 4 meets xenogears.

My backlog is taking a big blow today. I'm buying at least 6 games from the PSN flash sale, but the good news is I finished Titan Attacks. I plan on finishing a couple games this weekend, but we will see how it goes.
