GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Damn. Was too early for the additional 30% trade in towards Link's Awake pre-order. Atleast the +$5 still worked. And the action figures were already on sale.

Went to trade in some retro games at my nearest gamestop store and was told he couldn't take them.

I said "Why not?"

His response: "They're too old." (Mind you it was 2 ps1 games - Dino Crisis 1&2 and 1 ps2 - GTA Vice City Stories, all on the trade in app)

I said, "Since when did you stop taking in retro games?"

Him, "Well as long as I've been here we never have."

Needless to say he got a negative survey. I ended up trying the mall GS 5 minutes away and had no issues trading in.

That kind of stuff gets so frustrating. As they are employees, they should know the rules better than the customers do.

Had a similar experience (similar in that the person didn’t know their own stores policies) at Walmart where the employee wouldn’t price match their own website when the item was sold and shipped from Walmart and wasn’t an online special. It wasn’t that she was unsure of what to do that ticked me off, she was very negative about the whole thing like I didn’t know what I was talking about when it came to price matching.

If you are unsure of your policies, check with a supervisor. Don’t tell me “Walmart doesn’t do that” if you have no idea what you’re talking about.

The manager of the store I reserved a Kratos Nendo at did NOT want to sell it to me because 'it shouldn't be part of the sale'. He told me corporate glitched some of the old skus with the updates and that some figures shouldn't be included in the sale but are. Initially refused to scan it and told me it wouldn't ring up $5 but I eventually got him to and voila, $5. Proceeded to grumble about customers ripping the store off and 'taking off with high priced items' and was super salty about it.

Sure he did bud.

Hello. This my first post and i want to say thank you for all the deal's the past few week's. Also to who posted the 14.99 and under switch list you the mvp.

I was denied when trying to trade in some Gamecube games. The girl scanned the games and said that they couldn’t take them. I rarely trade in at this GS so I don’t know if it’s something new. I had no other choice since this was the nearest store that closed at 7pm. I would’ve gone to my go to store but it closed at 6pm.

Sounds exactly like the manager of the store closest to me (and the old manager of my previous home store). If it was really glitched there would've been an e-mail and the items would've been pulled, they're just butthurt you're getting a good deal.

Is anyone else having issues placing an order on the new site? I tried three times tonight and couldn't get through checkout. Once it gave me an error, and the other two times it just booted me back to another page and emptied the cart. Is this just me?

sounds like he wanted it

Was able to get an Ultimate Gamer Gremlin, Imperial Jump Trooper, and a surprise dancing Porg lol (that thing was $50? insane). Wish my stores had more neat stuff but can't complain for $15. GF loves Porgs and we didn't know it also waddles forward. Greatness.

Soooooooo.... someone just redeemed shop points off my account. I now have to change my password apparently but what are the chances gamestop will give me my points back? Or is it not even worth the hassle for 5000 points?

From my experience, retro games have to be manually searched in their system. If they try to scan the bar code, their system is going to give no product information due to them being so old. Sounds like an employee that either has no clue what they do for retro trade ins or just didn't want to bother with searching for the titles.

Same stupid shit happened to me. I ate the 5k points and changed my password... But actually, the idiot redeemed for a Google points card he never got to use because I redeemed it. I never in my life wanted Google points but at least it's mine!

I had 50K points redeemed about 2 years ago and a phone call was able to get them back. Was pretty shocked how painless it was to be honest.

did you go on the website or app and check to see if they are games they are supposed to take? they don't take everything. and with gamecube games they can't take them if they are scratched at all because they don't fit in the disc polisher machine.

What android porn app do you all have installed that’s giving specific hacker groups/nations running Google Play and only Google Play scams your passwords?

Man... I've been reading about problems with the site for a while... but it's completely borked.  I can't even view the weekly ad.

To confirm, the $5 toys are good all week?  Not sure if that's what was corrected, or the 2/$5

i question this because i buy gamecube games regularly and they are clearly resurfaced just like any other retro games i buy.
I used to work for Disc Replay who refurbished the hell out of some discs and can confirm that Gamecube discs were refurbished like all the others.

Some machines you have to put an insert into the tray to prevent the smaller discs from sliding out.

I trade in all my GC games that are too scratched to play. Stacks and stacks. Sounds like the other guy was lied to. But we all know that would never happen at GS.

As to them not taking some GC games by scanning them... Make sure they're scanning the actual game's retail bar code, and not an old GS used bar code on a yellow sticker.

Has anyone figured out how to check games that are in-stock and available for shipping without clicking into each individual game? You used to be able to browse by “available for shipping” but it seems they removed that feature.

Use the GS app to do a search, click on "Filter," click on "Availability," then check "Usually ships in 24 hrs"

I was told that every single non-bluray based games game that is returned to the warehouse is ran through the resurfacing machines by a higher level customer support after I had issues returning a batch of gamecube games that were chewed up.

The Thinkgeek rewards certificate doesn't work on the clearance Roblox sets. Any idea if it works on used games?
It does on some New and some Used games. I have used 2 of the coupons online so far, one for me and one for my wife. About half of the games work. What I did was add something like this:

Step 1: Add Shenmue 1+2 (PS4) to the cart (code works on this game for sure)

Step 2: Go to checkout and put the code in (voucher should apply and you should see the discount)

Step 3: Assuming Shemue is not the game you won't remove the game from your cart, the coupon will still be active

Step 4: Either search for the specific game you are wanting to get, or just browse the selection of the system you play most. As you are scrolling through the list you will see the games that the coupon applies to. They will have something like "Thinkgeek voucher applied! Take $25 off your order!" Some of the used games even had "Free" listed by their price for my coupon.

I didn't get to really use the coupon on a game I wanted, so I found ones that were $30 or less. Games I know for certain it worked on besides Shemue: Tales of Vesperia PS4, The Walking Dead Collection (not the one which hasn't released yet), The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Complete Edition, God Eater 3, Skyrim Special Edition. There were others, but these are the games I was debating between that's why I remember them. Hope that helps anyone that doesn't have a Gamestop store near them!
