Current Trade in Promos:

GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Yeah, its gotten to the point for me that I just hope and pray that Amazon price matches any new items on sale at Gamestop. You may get it slightly crushed from Amazon in a bubble mailer, but at least you are getting a sealed and unused copy.
Indeed. In the future, I’m just going to get BB to price match GS’s low inventory items. I’ve never had an issue with BB shipping and I’m pretty confident I would be able to reach their customer service, which I can’t say about GS.

Pretty sure every place requires ID for trade in due to property laws.

Finished my flips until next year I think. Sitting pretty on some decent trade credit and can use the points to buy toys on clearance for donating this time of year. Gamestop may not intend it but they are going to be quite generous.

Almost none of the stores around me ask for ID. Maybe because I give my phone number? It still happens occasionally though, in which case it may be because of local laws.

Careful with that. The reward certs will take off from the original price, not the clearance price, so their value will be greatly decreased. I'd use the reward certs for Amazon cards or something else that's full price so you get their full value's worth.

Good to know, thanks for the info! I may just use some of the trade credit to buy toys then and like you said use the certs for gift cards.

So playing Rage 2, but not feeling it imo. Combat is fine, but the open world kills the game for me.

Enemies are pretty brain dead and just rush you. Driving is clunky, just not good overall.

Bought it as part of B2G1, so rather not return it. It was around $30 for 3($18) games.

Is the $5 extra for ps4 games still going? Tempted to trade in for $7 + $5 bonus for $13.

Funny how I had a way better time with anthem and that was $4...

Reward certificates still work on Amazon cards? I was under the impression that was killed months ago

GameStops on Indian reservations don’t take ID. Find your nearest casino, then “search here” for GS in the area

Confirmed for XB1, PS4, Switch games, today.

Took the last of the "multiple" copies of games I got on the 4F$20 special in today. Also traded in the last of my games B2G1 from Black Friday that were duplicates.

With everything said and done, I got to keep 9 $55 games (with original cases -- yeah I bought multiples, just to ensure one would be complete), several cheaper $40 "good" games, a bag of T-shirts (B1G1), and a couple sets of the new pairs of Joy Con controller colors (full price, but the colors pop!).

Pretty much broke even on store credit, and I think I'm about done for the month - some wiggle room if there is a Christmas special, but I'm not counting on it. Some people have mentioned another Pro-Days style sale - meh. If I'm trade banned .. then, pfft.., Elite expiring very soon anyways.

That wouldn't happen 'til Christmas anyways. I'll be sure to drain the account beforehand.

I might need to spend some points so I can continue to read Game Informer on the toilet.

Best Thanksgiving ever!

Trade that fucking garbage in. I bought it for $20 when it was on sale a couple weeks before BF and absolutely hated it. Easily the worst game I've played this year one of the worst this gen. I got screwed and traded it in instantly this week when it was only $4 base, but now that its $7 it's a no brainer. You'll feel better that the game is no longer in your presence.

I received and empty switch case that I get from B2G1. Now I’m waiting to see if I can get an exchange or a reimbursement.

Did wrong math. $7 +$5= $12.
Also trading in madden 19, paid $10 and will trade in for $7 after bonus. $19.90 total after PUR.

Of all the multiple GS stores, I've been to, only 2 ever asked for ID.

The first was to sign up for a PUR (Power Up Rewards) card.

The Second was in a seedy part of another town - the one and only time I went there - I can see why I never had a desire to return - the employees were super cool, but the customers couldn't be bothered to pull their pants all the way up - while playing cheesy Hip Hop at a volume I could hear all the way from the XB1 section to the PS4 & Switch sections I was shopping at.

At the second location, I did challenge them, asking why they needed my ID. They said they would decline the trade if I didn't have an ID.

It's probably one of the locations shutting down next year, as a guess. I suppose the crime / theft rate is bad. I went during the day -)

Every other store I've been to, when I make a transaction, they ask for phone number, I pull out my PUR card, they scan it, and there are no questions regarding an ID. Even stores I've never been to.

The city that I normally go to, doesn't have an ID policy but the city the opposite way has the ID policy at both of their Gamestop's so I would imagine it's a town by town thing.

Similar situation except I received the wrong Zelda game. Waited on hold for 45 minutes, had to hang up. Called a local store and they said to call. Called again, waiting 23 minutes and they are sending the game again and asked me to return the wrong game to a local store after I receive the correct game (I don't understand how that will work...I walk in and say you guys messed up, take this and I'll leave?).

My account got flagged. Started flipping today and when I got to the 3rd store(up to this point only traded in 8 games). Some guy came from the back and said he was going to call all the stores in the area give them my name so they would not take trades from me. He said I wasn't trade banned but he knew what I was doing. I asked how he knew he said" the system saw that I bought and traded the same games in the same day".
Today I wiped my tears and went back and bought/traded a batch under alt. account. Found out my main account received 30 day trade ban. I asked a manager how did my account get flagged. He told me games bought and sold in the same day(same account) get red flagged. Take it for what its worth. I might do another run today before closing.

Stores only ask for Id here if your receiving cash...if your receiving credit it just your number and signature confirming the trade

Different states and cities have different pawn laws.

Damn, hope mine doesn't get flagged as I did a set of 8 games today. That being said though, I've bought and traded in plenty of games on the same day and have never had a problem with it, so more than likely it was a nosy ass employee who wanted to try and get on the good side of someone. I'm sitting on a ton of Switch games to trade in and I'm waiting for a possible stealth bump next weekend to off load them and I would hate to lose Elite Pro trading for any part of what little time it's left over something like this.

There was some kind of recent change since the last time I traded anything in, and now in my area you have to not only show ID, but fill out some weird form saying where and when you got the game(s).

Many 1st party Switch games were dropped to $39.99 MSRP during BF. IMO, once a game is dropped in value for sale, it will NEVER recover.

GameStop chose to not discount any titles (and keep the difference on any sales). But Target, BestBuy, Walmart did discount a bunch.

The discounted titles are many (Odyssey, Zelda, Octopath, Kirby, Mario Aces Tennis, Mario Party, Splatoon 2 and several others .. The full list was around page 685 in this thread, written on the Thanksgiving weekend).

BUT the titles that did not get cheapened by Nintendo (and might actually have a price bump), are:

Mario Kart 8

Mario Maker 2

Pokemon Shield (++ 35 base already, probably capped)

Pokemon Sword (++ 35 base already, probably capped)

Super Mario U Deluxe

Super Smash

Maybe Yoshi's Crafted World too; I can't remember if it was discounted.

Other good ones are the Mario Olympic's games, if you can ever grab a used copy.

Essentially, IMO, once a game is discounted for BF, it NEVER recovers decent value. The only way out is lower at that point.

If you are expecting a price bump on the games you're holding, you might want to sell sooner than later -- value will likely go down. Outside Pokemon, the GameStop offer is more than what you can sell them Brand New on EBay (for the Nintendo discounted titles).

These two things have nothing to do with each other or what the poster is looking to do. What exactly was the point of this?

I ordered several games for pickup during black Friday weekend and they took 2 days to let me pick up the games, when I took off the sticker price under it was a sticker saying it was on trade hold that was for 6 of 18 games I got, Im glad they didn't cancel my orders and just let me wait

I don't expect a price bump on any game that is globally worth less, even if GS chooses to keep the sale price high?

I suppose it could happen, I just feel it's unlikely.

It's pretty ridiculous neither Pro or Cag16 work with the 4 for 20 online.

You also cant search for online availability for whatever reason, so that kills the 4 for 10 online.

Do reward certs still work on other store gift cards? I tried to get a variable amount Papa John's with a $25 very, and it didn't work. I wasn't sure if none work anymore or if it's just the variable amount ones don't work.

I got these joy cons from the Best Buy glitch but GS trade in is about $24 for each pair? That's waaaayyy too low.

If they are grey/grey or blue/red, they are common.

May as well sell / trade. The old colors are not in demand. [reason why BB was selling cheap]

You missed the trade bonus last month, +$10 per Joy Con....

If they are unopened, I'd take them to a local pawn shop. You would probably get $30-$40. Or $10 if it's shady AF.

A gamestop manager became suspicious of my account and notified the district manager.

A buddy of mine who works at gamestop told me all the stores in a 100 mile radius were on group chat talking about my account.

Think my account will get banned lol?
Well it's been about 3 days and I still have my account. Traded some games in today and no trade ban.

Warning to those who are flipping with multiple accounts I use my elite pro to purchase and pro accounts for trade in All got the nuke today.

If you have multiple accounts and have used your ID to trade in on any of them your ID will be linked to all those accounts no matter which ones you trade in on.  So if you hit the trade limit it will hit all your accounts that are tied to your ID you used to trade in with.

You just need the right ID and you are good.

We don’t need ID to trade in for credit. I purchase only on my Elite pro account, and trade in on 4 different pro accounts to make sure I don’t hit the 5 and don’t think they hit 2k limit, 5/8 of my accounts got nuked

Gamestop can also trace your trade credit. Let's say some random junior detective got suspicious and reported you to LP. They may be able to see all the trade credit from your alt accounts were used on your main elite pro account. But you are the first one I've heard that got banned this way.

I know which store reported me last night as I was trading in last night a girl say something wrong with my account and went to the back room a few mins later came back and did my trade, I went to trade this morning punch in my number and my account didn’t come up, the kid at the register was trying to lookup my account and show me the screen, when they put ur last name and zip code in all the accounts pop up and they can select one , I can see the rest of my not ban account all with similar email and similar address lol. Told him none are mine and did my trade in without account today lol

I'm all for flipping for fun now, but if you're using more than 1 account than you absolutely should be banned, for your sake. Find something more productive to do. You cant even buy GCs anymore so no idea why youd want much at GS anyways.

PA, We don’t need we need ID for trade in
That's wild. Im in north Pittsburgh, not too far where the crazy lady dances with the cane in vacant parking lots. It's probably too cold tonight for her to be jiggin'. You here in P-town my man, if so we can dance with that bih when it warms up
