CAG Group Buy Hosting FAQ

Q: I see all of these CAGs hosting group buys for people. What's that all about?
A: It's a way for CAGs to help each other get the best deal. One person will buy the bundle during the first week, then they will buy four gift copies at the highest tier during Happy Hour. This person is referred to as the host. They then try to sell these to participants for a fraction of the price of buying the "beat the average" bundle individually, plus some extra to distribute the cost of the initial bundle purchase in the first week. The host gains money back, and the participants get the full bundle for a fourth of the cost. Everyone wins.

Q: How do I host one?
A: To host a CAG group buy, you must first purchase the Indie Gala full BTA (beat the average) bundle in the first week (this has been changed since the previous bundles). This will allow you to purchase four additional bundles for the price of one during a Happy Hour, as stated in the Happy Hour post above. Now, it does matter how much you initially spend, as you must purchase the full bundle in order to purchase full bundle four-packs during Happy Hour. Then, once Happy Hour starts, you buy a gift copy for the current "beat the average" price, which will be listed on the Indie Gala page. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK "IS IT A GIFT" TO GET FOUR GIFT COPIES.

Q: It's asking me for multiple e-mail addresses. What do I do?
A: Just skip that part. The links to the gifts will be added to your account page (which is another reason why you must always use the same e-mail address when ordering from Indie Gala). Most hosts will send out the gift URLs to their participants in a PM.

Q: Is it hard to do?
A: No, it's very quick and easy. Just keep track of which gift URLs you have sent to which people, and you will be fine.

What are people's cutoffs for the group buy? I'm not confident that Spoder's 1.20 will be reached again so if there is enough interest at a higher price I may consider picking up a 10 pack. It seems to be hovering between 1.50 and 1.65 lately, at least all the times I've checked.

Well, there's plenty of time before the weekly ends, so I may buy it anyway. I figure there's no reason to buy it now, and it's best to wait until the last day.

Honestly, right around $1.20. I might go as high as $1.30, but that's about it.

Well, there's plenty of time before the weekly ends, so I may buy it anyway. I figure there's no reason to buy it now, and it's best to wait until the last day.
Exactly. There's still 5 days left. I'm not sure if it will fall back down to $1.20 again, but it's certain to drop below the current price before all is said & done.

Finally picked up this bundle and only owned two games out of everything. All these games will probably get some game time when I have some months with no internet and steam in offline mode. Thanks Fox.

Not quite. They bought off congress and arranged to have have the 2013 calendar changed to June 30, 31, 32,... 36, July 7, 8

Also 4th of July has been canceled in a supreme court ruling. The leading opinion was that since principals set forth in the Declaration of Independence such as:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

were no longer relevant to present-day USA, so there is no reason to celebrate on the Fourth of July. The date itself is dubious.

July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress had finally resolved

That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.

It should be noted that a bunch of British men wearing dresses and wigs wrote amicus curiae opining that the whole matter is illegal and everyone involved should be hanged for treason against the crown.

Since the Indie Gala Summer Dream bundle doesn't seem to be getting much lower, I've decided to host a 10-pack ($1.50 per bundle). Further discussion in the Indie Gala group buy thread.
I've had some folks PM me, but I still don't have enough for 10 slots. This bundle will be over in two and a half days so I'm bumping this: if you want in on the group buy (now ~$1.40 per bundle) PM me by tomorrow at the latest, otherwise I'll have to cancel it and just get a regular bundle at $3.00.

Is it normal for them to extend Indie Gala weekly deals? lol the Summer Dream deal got extended by 3 days.
Indie Gala doesn't know what "average" means, and they don't always pay attention to their own countdowns, either. I think they've extended a few bundles before, and I know they've extended many of their deals on the Indie Gala Store by several days. I remember looking at one on the last day it was supposed to be offered, debating whether to buy it... and the next time I clicked on the page, the countdown had jumped back up to four days left.

That said, having more time to decide whether to buy or not is never a bad thing...

I've also been playing around with the GalaGiveaways. I noticed in the earlier part of this thread there was some negative feedback regarding it, so I had some doubts (not about Gala crew, but about the community). Maybe I've just been lucky, but so far I've won 2 giveaways (Postal 2 and Eleusis) in the past couple days and both keys were sent within 48 hours, and both were valid so far so good. I have only done 1 giveaway myself so far, still waiting for feedback on it so I can't speak on a seller/giveaway perspective yet really but it seems legit so far and I have not encountered any of the problems mentioned in the previous posts yet. Figured I'd just throw my feedback out there, if you had a bad experience before you might want to check it out now and see what you think or if your new to giveaway sites and want a small community (with decent odds of winning) check it out.
