AMARILLO, Texas - Texas-based Hastings Entertainment Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Company officials say the reorganization filing includes its parent company, Draw Another Circle, and sister brands Movie Stop and SPImages.

A statement posted Monday on the Hastings website says the Chapter 11 process will help prepare the business for an intended sale, while providing protections and financing to continue operations. Further financial details weren’t released.

Hastings will no longer accept or honor deposits for movie purchases and will no longer rent games. Hastings gift cards expire July 13, 2016. The company’s buyback program has been suspended.

General
Question: What is Hastings / GoHastings.Com?
Answer:
Founded in 1968, Hastings Entertainment, Inc. is a leading multimedia entertainment retailer that combines the sale of new and used books, videos, video games and CDs, and trends and consumer electronics merchandise, with the rental of videos and video games in a superstore format. Currently there are 146 superstores. Hastings also operates www.goHastings.com, an e-commerce Internet Web site that makes available to customers new and used entertainment products and unique, contemporary gifts and toys.

Question: Gee, this is a really long FAQ. Doesn't Hasting have their own FAQ for customers?
Answer:
Hastings does have their own FAQ. You can read Hastings' official FAQ by clicking here. However, this FAQ goes into many details that Hastings' own FAQ does not. So be sure to read through all of this before asking a question!

NEW!
Question: How can I filter and sort Used Video Games to remove the out of stock items?
Answer:
Find the "Stock" dropdown menu option when browsing the used game selection and choose "In Stock." Games that have been purchased in the past day and are now out of stock may still appear.

NEW!

Clearance Video Games are in New condition; Plus $2.28 shipping per game

Game / Item Condition
Question: What is the difference between "used" and "previously viewed" items on GoHastings.Com?
Answer:
"Used" games and movies are items that have been traded in to a Hastings retail location by a customer. "Previously viewed" games and movies are items that Hastings has rented out to customers at their retail locations but are now selling to the public.

When it comes to video games, most CAGs report no real difference between the two other than some ancillary stickers, but both "used" and "previously viewed" games are subject to being scratched, abused, or incomplete depending how well it was previously taken care of.

When it comes to movies, the "Previously Viewed" rental versions often lack features from the full retail versions and may come in different boxes, have different UPCs, have white barcode stickers around the center ring of the disc, etc.

You may encounter a situation where a customer has purchased a "previously used" item from Hastings, then traded it back into Hastings, thus making it a "used" item. This practiced is frowned upon by most customers, but Hastings has shown next to no incentive to change it. It mostly happens with movies.

Question: Do used and previously viewed video games come complete with the original case and manual?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com states as follows:

Due to the nature of used products; booklet inserts, digital movie downloads and manuals are not guaranteed in our used video games, movies and CDs.
However, the vast majority of CAGs have reported that a large majority of their games do arrive complete. Incomplete games are more of an exception rather than the rule.

Question: Are used collector's editions and limited editions of games guaranteed to come with extras like bonus discs, statutes, and other items?
Answer:
No. Hopefully the used CE and LE games would at least come with all of the discs, but this is not guaranteed. And there is absolutely no guarantee other physical items or "swag" will be included for these used copies. However, CAGs have reported that they have purchased used CE and LE games and received all of the extras. If you order a used CE or LE and it does not come with the extras, just contact customer service and ask about a return/refund.

Question: What condition do "used" and "previously viewed" discs come in?
Answer:
Mosts CAGs seem to get games in good, playable condition if not better. However, there have been cases of receiving a game so scratched up that it would not load/play. These games can be returned to GoHastings.Com at no cost to the customer for a full refund.

NEW!
Question: Are New condition games factory sealed or gutted and re-sealed?
Answer:
As of mid-2013, Hastings retail stores have adopted a policy of gutting games then storing the game discs, manuals and DLC papers separately. This is so they do not have to lock up games or put security cases on games yet still allow the customer to physically handle the boxes in-store. When a new game is sold, Hasting will either re-seal the game or they will place the game in a bag that cannot be opened if you want to return the game as new.

Shipping
Question: Why are my items shipping individually? Why does GoHastings.Com include a shipping charge for each individual item ordered?
Answer:
Hastings does not have warehouses for fulfilling internet orders. All items are shipped from individual brick and mortar retail stores. If your order contains multiple items, your order may ship from multiple locations at different times if one location does not have all of the items you ordered. Because items could ship from more than one location, GoHastings.Com charges a per item shipping fee. Yes this can be frustrating, so its best to either get over it if you intend to shop at GoHastings.Com, or if you can't get over it, shop elsewhere. Like all "deals," include the shipping price per item into consideration for the total cost of the game being purchased.

UPDATED!
Question: How much is shipping per item?
Answer:
Video Games and PC software ship for $2.28 per item.

CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays ship for $1.29 per item.

Books have a per-order charge of $3.00 plus $0.99 shipping per book ordered.

Game Hardware, Electronics and Trends have a per-order charge of $1.99 plus $0.10 shipping per ounce for each item ordered.

Full shipping information, including expedited shipping prices, can be found HERE.

Occasionally, GoHastings.Com offers free or reduced shipping promotions.

Please note, books used to ship for $0.96 per order with no per item charge but Hastings discontinued that pricing scheme as of January 10, 2014. CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays used to ship for $0.96 per item, but Hastings raised that price to the current cost as of approximately May 25, 2014.

Question: How long does it take GoHastings.Com to ship my order?
Answer:
Standard Shipping:
Order processed within 48 Hours
Shipping time is 3-10 Days

Priority / Expedited Mail:
Order processed within 48 Hours
Shipping time is 2 - 3 Days

Question: What service does GoHastings.Com use to ship items?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com primarily ships items using the United States Postal Service (USPS). Video games ship via USPS First Class Mail. Books, movies and music ship via USPS Media Mail. Larger orders may ship via UPS.

Question: Will GoHastings.Com give me a tracking number for each shipment?
Answer:
Every shipment usually has a tracking number associated with it. If you did not see a tracking number in the shipping confirmation email, check your order history on GoHastings.Com.

Question: What will GoHastings.Com ship my items in?
Answer:
It will vary. Hastings might use a yellow paper mailer with bubble padding on the inside. They might use a white plastic envelope with bubble padding on the inside. They might use a stiffer paper/lighter cardboard envelope with no padding. Hastings will try to jam as many items into any of the above envelope options as possible, resulting in frequently damaged books, broken game/movie/CD cases, etc. On rare occasions, someone at Hastings will have the common sense to put larger or heavier items into a box for safer shipping, but even then they will neglect to use padding. Hastings used to ship items in a white plastic poly-bag with absolutely no padding or protection, but after numerous complaints, the company claims these are supposed to be phased out and no longer in use. They still pop up from time to time.

Order Cancellations / Out Of Stock Items
Question: Why was an item cancelled out of my order? Why is that item back in stock right now?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com fills their stock from their Hastings brick and mortar retail locations. Additionally, GoHastings.Com sells items on Amazon and eBay. Their online inventory system is antiquated and does not update stock instantaneously across physical store locations, GoHastings.Com, Amazon, and eBay. Therefore if someone bought the same item first in store/on Amazon/on eBay, their order will be fulfilled first and your item will be cancelled if there is not enough inventory to go around, even though you thought the item was in stock. Yes this sucks, but now you know about it so you can simply choose not to shop at GoHastings in the future if you can't deal with it. No need to endlessly complain about it in posts. Consider writing a letter to the president of Hastings, whose contact info can be found below this FAQ.

Because Hastings' physical store locations accept trade-ins for the used items that they sell, an item that was out of stock may quickly come back into stock if someone trades in the same item, or if someone returns the same item. However, as stated above, GoHastings.Com has an antiquated online system, and they will not be able to fulfill any items on your order once they have been canceled. You will have to re-order the item, at which time the promotion you initially ordered under may have expired. You can try to contact customer service to see if they will create a new order for you with the price point your originally ordered under.

Question: I just ordered something and now it shows as out of stock, either on my order history page or on the item's page. Will my order be canceled?
Answer:
Probably not, but it is still possible. GoHastings.Com updates its inventory count immediately when sales from the website are made. Therefore if they had one item, and you ordered it, it will now show up as out of stock on GoHastings.Com. However, if someone ordered it off Hastings' eBay or Amazon Marketplace listings first, they may fulfill that order first and cancel your order. Also, if someone walks into the store and purchases the item before it is pulled to ship to you, your order will be canceled. Additionally, store employees may not be able to locate the item and thus cancel your order for that reason. Hastings also has a problem on their website where items in your order history show as out of stock, sometimes regardless of the actual stock. Your best bet is to take a deep breath and not worry about it.

Sale Pricing
NEW!
Question: How can I tell if one promotion or discount is better than a different commonly offered promotion or discount?
Answer:
The following guides are only for video games since they take into consideration the $2.28 per game shipping price. You will have to do your own math for music/movies, books, trends/electronics and other shipping sales.

Remember, stock and prices fluctuate constantly and may not be the same by the next sale.

The math in the Buy 2 Get 1 For $1 deal assumes you choose three equally priced games to maximize your potential savings.

Question: GoHastings.Com totally raised their prices prior to the sale! OMGWTFBBQSauce! Should I call the police / attorney general / president of the United States?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com claims to not raise their prices prior to sales. Their pricing is based on algorithms that consider things like supply, demand, competitor pricing, market rates, etc. If a game was $10 before the sale and $15 24 hours into the sale, chances are there were only a couple of copies of the game and someone bought one when the sale started, thus affecting the supply and demand. You are not the only one monitoring a Wish List on GoHastings.Com. However, there have been some clearly documented instances of raising prices right before a sale, especially with books rather than games.

Promotional Deal Codes
Question: Why is the promotional code not applying to my order?
Answer:
Certain M-rated games carry the disclaimer that "This item is only available for purchase by customers age 17 and older." If you have such a game in your cart, be sure to check the box by the "Check Out" button that says "I am at least 17 years of age" before clicking the "Apply Promotion Code" button to apply the promotional code.

Additionally, some promotional codes only apply to select qualifying titles. Be sure that your order only contains such titles. Occasionally the GoHastings.Com programmers miss something and games that are supposed to qualify do not work with the promotional code. If this is the case, please contact GoHastings.Com. Contact information can be found below this FAQ.

Question: Can I use more than one promotional code at the same time? Can I stack promotional codes?
Answer:
No, you can only apply one promotional code per order. This prevents code stacking. If there are two promotional codes valid at the same time that you would like to use, you must place two or more separate orders.

Question: What time do promotions normally begin / end?
Answer:
GoHastings.Com operates based on the Central Time Zone. Weekly promotions usually start on Sunday and usually last the whole week. Various other promotions may have different start times and durations. Promotions usually begin at midnight Central time. However, sometimes the new promotions take a while to go "live" on the website, so always double check your order that the correct discounted price is shown.

Order Problems and Contacting Customer Service
(Including Returns/Replacements for Wrong Item or Damaged/Defective Item)

Question: I am trying to place an order and have entered my correct shipping address, billing address and credit card info. The check out page says there is a problem with my information and I need to correct it, but nothing is incorrect. What is going on?!
Answer:
This is a random error that seems to affect some people and not others. There is no known cause for it. People have reported it occurring with different credit card companies (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc.). Some people think it has to do with what web browser you use, so perhaps try a different one. Some people have reported they can't place orders from computers or IP numbers located out of the state where their billing or shipping address is located. The bottom line is there is no fix for this problem from the customer's end. Your only attempt to get it resolved will be to CALL Customer Service. Contact details for Customer Service can be found below this FAQ.

Question: GoHastings.Com sent me a defective game or the wrong game. How do I return it? Can they send me a replacement/correct item?
Answer:
Contact customer service to initiate the return process. Customer service contact information is located in this post, below the FAQ. GoHastings.Com will not charge you to ship the game back, and they will give you a full refund, including what you paid initially for shipping. In some instances, they will simply refund the cost of the item and let you keep the defective or wrong item for free. GoHastings.Com will not normally send you a replacement item if you received a defective or incorrect item. They will usually tell you that you must place a new order, at which time the promotion you initially ordered under may have expired. You can try to contact customer service to see if they will create a new order for you with the price point you originally ordered under.

Question: Something went wrong with my order. How do I contact customer service?
Answer:
Customer service contact information is located in this post, below the FAQ.

Question: Should I call or email customer service?
Answer:
CAGs have reported mixed experiences with both calling and emailing Hastings Customer Service. It is up to your preference. If you are contacting them regarding credit card issues, it may be best to call rather than put highly sensitive information in an email. If you call during business hours, your issue may be resolved right then over the phone. You might also have to wait on hold for a long period of time during peak hours. If you email, you may have to wait up to 48 hours to get a response, especially if you email over the weekend. Often the email replies fail to understand your entire issue with your order. Customer Service contact information is located in this post, below the FAQ.

Question: What is GoHastings.Com return policy?
Answer:
The GoHastings.Com website states their return policy is as follows:

All items purchased through gohastings.com may be returned for a full refund of the purchase price, if they meet the following criteria:

  • All new items are in original unopened packaging.
  • Return of product is within 30 days of shipping date.
  • Returned product(s) must be in the original packaging and include any manuals, cabling and accessories in saleable condition.
  • Video Game Systems that are found defective within the 30 day window must make a return using the manufacturer's warranty.
Shipping and handling charges are not refundable.
Note: Products purchased through goHastings.com may not be returned to a physical store location for refund.
However, this can be confusing considering used items, such as games, come in opened packaging. Normally GoHastings has no problem with returns for defective or incorrect used game shipments that are promptly requested. At the very least, if a game item was found to be defective within 30 days of the shipping date, you would have a good argument toward customer service that you should be able to return the game item. Abusing the return policy to replace your own broken items with items from GoHastings inventory wouldn't be a good idea.

Question: Does GoHastings.Com collect sales tax?
Answer:

Question: Where are Hastings brick and mortar retail stores located?
Answer:
Question: Are the online prices the same in store? Are the online specials valid in store?
Answer:
Generally speaking, no. For used items and for some new items, GoHastings.Com uses algorithms where prices can change multiple times in one day. Hastings retail locations have their own set prices. See your local store for more information. Additionally, online special sales and promotions are not valid in store. Sometimes Hastings runs the same pricing online and in store for certain items.

Question: Are the brick and mortar retail location advertisements valid online?
Answer:
Generally the prices in the retail location advertisements are not valid on GoHastings.Com. Sometimes Hastings runs the same pricing online and in store for certain items.

I have a game in my shopping cart and it says its out of stock, but I'm still able to complete the checkout process. How would this work, exactly? Do I just not get it and get refunded, or do I get a copy whenever it's in stock, or should I just not worry about the out of stock?

Lol, the code is for 50% off? Hastings upped the minimum price of every game to $7.59 so you are basically paying the non-sale price on anything cheap. Who knows how much the other titles went up, but Mario Party 8 is $45.

Good job, shitty company, good job.

Yeah last night I saw some small time shitty Wii game that I was mildly interested in for $4.99. It had been that price for at least a few days.

This morning I see the email about the DotD and go back and look at the game, since $4.78 for the game (with shipping) would be a good price. Better than straight up free shipping! Oops, the game is now almost $12 before shipping.

What a joke.

And if you guys haven't noticed, they changed the website to potentially allow for in store pick up, though it doesn't seem like any stores currently offer that option. This change means you can't get a heads up on what items are going to come into stock overnight anymore from the website since the "check for availability" box that used to appear when an item came into the system before the item was listed as in stock is gone. You still might be able to get a heads up if you see the item on Amazon Marketplace, since those still get updated a day before their own website.

Their system is also updating closer to 3 AM Eastern these days, so if you want to try and snag any stuff, you have to stay up extremely late.

Hastings has always priced their used items similarly to their Amazon Marketplace listings, but now they're making the website price higher than the Amazon Marketplace price + Amazon Marketplace Price Shipping. So for example, if you wanted a book and it's $4 on Amazon Marketplace from them, you have to then pay another $4 in shipping. $8 for that book. When you go to the GoHastings website, the book will be priced at over $8, plus Hastings will want another $4 in shipping for that book, making it $12. Same thing for that crappy Wii game I was talking about above. So basically there's no point in ever paying full price from the GoHastings website unless there's a coupon/promotion. And then you realize the % off coupon is saving you less money than it could be because of this new pricing scheme.

They've also "updated" the Wishlist by turning it into a multi-page ordeal. So instead of one continuous scroll, you now can look at 20 items or something like that before you have to click to go to the next page in your wishlist. Because THAT'S the feature their shitty wishlist was missing. Not anything like being able to sort it or make sub-wishlists. Pages. Eliminating the ability to Ctrl+F on the whole wishlist. Way to go, person in charge of the website. Addressing the important issues. :wall:

Thanks, picked up some books and DVDs, the one used blu-ray I found that I was interested in the code didn't work on it of course, willow, maybe because it is a combo pack.

41% off used games code is up:  NOTAHOAX  valid 4/1 only.  Some good Wii U games (Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros) are in stock as of posting and are ~30-35 after coupon+shipping.  Majora's Mask is ~$25 after coupon+shipping.

Not really much of a deal since they have spiked the prices on a lot of thing in stock by about 50%, which is weird since they don't normally do that with the general % off promotions.

Just got my copy of skyward sword. Came in replacement case that was shattered, no manual, box art is some promo display copy that isn't the actual box art. Pretty disappointed. Probably not going to shop here anymore.

for me it does seem like with older games it's more miss than hit. newer games (like within the past couple years) I haven't had an issue.

I did some in-store trades today, and they wouldn't take the one game that was disc only, but I also saw plenty of disc-only games in the store, so I'm not sure what the deal is. Luckily, almost everything I got from last week's BB B2G1 free sale on used games was complete with original case/cover art, except for a 360 copy of The Crew. Hastings (B&M) is giving some excellent values right now on some games that other stores have had on sale.*  Unfortunately, the selection and prices at Hastings leave a lot to be desired, even with their current in-store offer of 30% off used games.

* - I can confirm that at least many of the values on this page are accurate.  I traded The Crew (PS4, X1) and Far Cry 4 (PS4, X1, 360, PS3), and got $40.25 each, plus the extra $10 from this coupon for trading in 3 PS4/X1 games.  Also, even though it isn't listed on that page, NBA 2K15 (PS4) also got $40.25, which was a nice surprise.

I got Tales of Graces f, Ni no Kuni, Valkyria Chronicles, and Heavy Rain: Director's Cut in today, all complete and in excellent condition other than the stickers.

I got my limited edition Killer is Dead for Xbox 360. It was brand new, literally, sealed with a "used" sticker on it. Can't beat that for $6.
Got a brand new copy of muramasa "used" for vita. Sealed.
I've gotten new games from them when ordering used before too but they also re-seal used games. Don't get why they do that, it seems kinda dumb.

I've also gotten foreign games from them before... I ordered a copy of FE Awakening and got a copy from the UAE. It looked pretty much just like the US version, and I didn't realize it was an import until I stuck it in my 3DS and got the error.

so they send me the regular dark knight trilogy on bluray instead of the ultimate collectors edition boxet I ordered during the 41% off sale. I emailed them and all they could do is offer me a refund that might take up to 3 weeks after I returns the item. I think it's just ridiculous they can't offer a replacement at the same price point.

I ordered the Transformers Cybertron games from GoHastings about a month ago. Ordered them in the same order, but they shipped separately, because that makes sense.

Anyways, my copy of War for Cybertron was in good shape with the original case and artwork, but it is missing a manual. I thought about calling up my local Gamestop, but whatever. The manual that comes with it is pretty useless anyway.

They ship from actual stores I believe, so if one store doesn't have both games they ship from different locations, I think that's why they charge shipping on each item as well.

Yeah, their shipping system is ancient. You might get everything from different stores, but then again you might get it all from the same store and pay the same amount in shipping fees. That's why the books are non-deals now. Most of the time I'd get all of my books in one shipment of 8-10 lbs for 99 cents flat. But now I'd be charged $4 base and $1 per additional. Same order might cost me $20 in shipping alone now.

That makes more sense. I figured they were shipping from separate locations. Or Hastings was trying to irritate me. One or the other.

I ordered a game from their 4/1 sale. Just came in yesterday. I forgot I even ordered something. They shipped it from one state over. Ridiculous.

Today only, 15% off with code "TAXMAN". It doesn't sound like much, but it'll work on new books, movies, music - just not games. It works on used everything, though.

Wow, I took my stupid pills this morning. I must have spent 20 minutes looking for something I wanted too before giving up, haha.

I've got to rant about this company. If you don't want to read a long winded rant, then skip this post entirely:

The other day they had 50% (or was it 40%? I think it was 50%) off used Wii and DS games. To my surprise, they had one Wii game in stock that I've been trying to get for some time. With the discount plus shipping, it was a good deal, so I added it to my cart. This is sometime around 11:30ish PM my time, which would be 1:30 AM where their servers are. I decide to check my wish list to see if there is anything else worth buying. I come across a hard to find used book that they have priced at $6.99. Even with the $3.99 for shipping, it's still a good deal for that book and I didn't think it would last until the next book promotion it might have qualified for.

So I go to check out with my Wii game and book. I go through all of their pages of check out. I get to the final page. I take a screen shot of the pricing like I do every time I order from them. Why? Because I've been caught a few times where I checked out and for whatever reason, the promotional code decided to disappear/not work despite working through the rest of the check out screens, so I am then charged a much higher price. I've warned about this problem numerous times in this thread and it's probably in the first post FAQ. I figure the screen shot of the order with the submit order button below should be good enough proof for Hastings that something went wrong if their system charges me a different amount. That way it's not just my word like I'm trying to pull a fast one on them.

I click submit, and lo and behold, I am charged a different amount than the final screen said I would be charged. You see, I had the unfortunate timing of clicking the submit button right at the same moment they apparently did the nightly price update on that book. Instead of $6.99, as it showed when I clicked submit, it charged me what they wanted the price to update to, which was $20-something, which was not a good deal. (Thankfully the actual promotional code for the Wii game worked fine.)

I think, ugh, this is annoying. I immediately shoot an email off to CS explaining the book was $6.99 when I submitted the order, but then the order complete page charged me $20-whatever for it. I ask them to either fix it so I'm only charged the $6.99, or take the book out of my order all together, because I'm not paying $20+ for that book since I did not agree to that in the slightest. I attach my screen shot of the final page before I clicked submit that showed I was agreeing to purchase the book for $6.99. Furthermore, if you look at my order history, it even shows the book's price as $6.99, quantity 1, total price $20-whatever. It literally makes no sense - the space time continum of their poor check out system got disrupted to produce that kind of result.

Instead, customer service replies and basically says I was an idiot and I was looking at a thumbnail price which wasn't reflecting the new current price that I would have seen on the item page. (Nevermind the fact I never use their thumbnail popup system and always just open a new tab with the item I'm interested in looking at.) And somehow I ignored that price difference through the entire check out process. It's absolutely ridiculous. They tell me if I don't want the book I can return it since it already processed through their system.

I reply back letting them know I'm not stupid and asking them if they even looked at the screen shot I attached to my email. I explain again that the price was $6.99 through the ENTIRE check out process, and only after I clicked submit did it say it was going to charge me the increased price. I remind them that is not the price I agreed to pay, and ask them to fix it or else I will file a dispute with my bank. I also remind them it's absolutely ridiculous their check out system has the capability to charge the customer more than the customer agreed to and that it's likely a violation of their credit card processing agreement, and that perhaps a company this inept shouldn't be allowed to accept major credit cards.

They reply back saying they'll do me a "courtesy" and refund me the difference so I'm only paying the $6.99 (plus shipping) for that one book. They then explain that the reason this happened is because I added the book to my cart before midnight, but then checked out after midnight. I'm pretty sure neither of those are true and my transaction occurred during the 1 AM hour. And it doesn't matter what time you add something to your cart or check out. The nightly price changes, or "fluctuations" as CS called them, happen on a rolling basis that seems to take somewhere between 1 to 2 hours to complete. I can't possibly guess when or if they were going to change the price of the book I was attempting to buy. Their response is a complete lie and a complete lack of understanding about how their own website works.

They then tell me that my previous email was "hateful and demeaning," and that I need to be professional if they're going to reply to any of my emails in the future. That is what really set me off. I was steamed at their first response to my first email, because their response was utter nonsense. It's like they didn't read a word I said or looked at the screen shot I provided. Their response did nothing to address my problem. But I never cursed at anyone or did anything less than "professional" other than be annoyed at their customer service's lack of ability to address the problem correctly the first time around.

I wrote back expressing my outrage at their second response, saying I was the one owed an apology for the way this entire situation was handled. It's not a "courtesy" to me to refund me the difference. At that point, it was their obligation and their only option since they processed the order anyway. If I walked into my bank with my screen shot and the order summary page, and Hastings' customer service's idiotic response, I would have been refunded the difference with absolute certainty. You can't do what Hastings' system did to me. Bottom line. End of discussion. Their response should have been "We're sorry there was this error with our system. I've initiated a refund for the difference in price so your total for that item is only $6.99." That's all they had to say and do, and problem solved. But they didn't do that. Instead they made this out to be my fault and they were going to bend their policy for me or something.

I also wrote back that I was insulted they accused me of being "hateful and demeaning" in my response to them. Again, I was steamed at their inadequate response to me the first time, but again, I did not curse or "YELL" or anything like that. I called the company inept and expressed my bewilderment that they seemingly ignored everything I said the first time around. That's hardly hateful or demeaning.

My duty as a customer is to go through the check out process, provide valid payment information, and then sit back and wait for my items to get to me. I shouldn't have to protect myself by taking screen shots before I submit my orders. They shouldn't have a system that allows them to charge customers a different amount than that total they agree to. Either it should bounce the order back saying it couldn't be completed because of the price change when compared to the total I was looking at (like how the order isn't completed and bounces back if someone snags the last item before you can complete your check out), or it should honor the price the customer's cart said at the time of submission. I would bet their system violates their CC processor's terms of service, the individual CC companies' terms of service, and quite probably violates multiple consumer protection laws.

Instead Hastings points the finger at me like this was my fault, my problem, and like I'm some kind of idiot that couldn't tell the difference between $6 and $20.

I told them to go ahead and forward the entire conversation string to their manager and that Billy May person who handles customer service on Facebook, and I would go ahead and do the same, which I've done.

Absolutely unbelievable.

(Is this unprofessional? Probably about as unprofessional as blaming the customer for something out of the customer's hands.)

Just remember, when the Hastings system screws up, it's your fault for not knowing it would screw up! Don't expect customer service to be helpful or understanding!

I've had the price change thing happen to me but it was in my favor (price lowered) and I saw it at the final screen. That may have been because I refreshed the page though I really don't remember. But yeah it should lock in the price if it's in your cart or inform you of a price change like Amazon. And yeah sounds like from what you say at least that they were in the wrong.

33% off books, music, movies, and games with code RUBBERBOOTS.

Most things looked like they were marked up accordingly. A couple of OK deals from a brief look through their games.

I used to buy from these guys a couple of times a month during sales and recently only 1 order in the last 6 months because of the terrible pricing on used games.

They are a shadow to what they were a few years ago. Still, when they run these sales there is sometimes a deal hidden in all the overpriced and out of stock listings.

I pretty much only order used blu-rays from gohastings now. Used game prices are terrible whereas I usually get blu-rays for an average of $7-8 each even new releases when I do orders of multiple movies. Some are as low as $4 shipped while others are like $13 shipped, but this still beats new ones at $20 each or more. I even got some sealed blu-rays when I ordered used. Condition is almost always complete and in very nice condition.
