Sept Update: Computer glitch is slowing markdowns - some games are marked up instead of marked down. Example: Feel the Magic should be tagged at $9, sept drop should make it $3, glitch is having it ring up $15. Glitch appears to be YMMV or just on certain games. Some games havent dropped at all. Glitch is on the corporate level - no info on when it will be fixed.

FAQ

Q: Why was this thread created?
A: Because there are multiple threads floating around, and its useful to consolidate. THis one will have the OP constantly updates so you don't have to go digging.

Q: Are these prices YMMV?
A: No, they shouldn't be. I currently have 10 K-Marts in my shopping radius, and they've all been consistent. At one time it was thought that they were YMMV, but I'm pretty sure it was instead employee incompetence at keeping prices updated.

EDIT: Some people are reporting prices that are YMMV, but I am hesitant to mark the deal as such. If you get a different price, it seems to be the exception to the rule, not a true YMMV where it is hit or miss. I'd say these prices are 90% accurate.

Q: An employee said the price was higher than what's on the list.
A: Get the game scanned at the register.

Q: The employee got that price gun and said it was higher than what's on the list.
A: GET THE GAME SCANNED AT THE REGISTER. The gun is incorrect sometimes.

Q: Can I use the price checker thingies?
A: YES! Brilliant idea! They will give you an accurate price. Also, if you have the problem of useless employees not opening the cases for you, you can print off the UPC codes and check them at the price checker.

Q: How can I help?
A: Multiple ways:
- Get a job at K-Mart so we have an inside man
- Post the prices of the games you get
- Write down the prices of games you do not get, then post those too

Q: When are items marked down?
A: Once a month, near the middle of the month.

Q: Does this have anything to do with the weekend 50% off sales K-Mart usually runs?
A: No. While some of these games used to be on the list, this is completely seperate. None of these games are on the 50% list anymore and will not be reduced during these sales.

Q: What if I bought a game at a higher price and it gets reduced? Can I get a price adjustment or a return/rebuy?
A: Chances are VERY SLIM. K-Mart does not do price adjustments on clearance items. A return/rebuy might be possible, but most Kmarts do not employee people with the mental capacity to fully understand this concept.

Q:Can I price check the games without getting into the cases?
A: Yes, thanks to this UPC document from TimTucker. You can scan these at self scanners located in most K-Marts, but note that sometimes prices may not be accurate
http://www.timtucker.com/games/kmart_upcs.doc

Q: What if the price is higher than what's on the list?
A: Then your store has not done markdowns left. Ask them if they have any pending PCLs and perhaps they can do it for you, or just wait it out. Also, you could try a return/rebuy if you have another local store that did the drops. Use the UPC sheet to check this

Q: What if a price doesn't come up? It says "Check shelf tag for pricing".
A: This means that the game was at 90% off, and for some reason it was scheduled to be marked down further. If you have a cool employee, you can get games for cheap. If you have a game with outdated tags, you could be in for a hassle. This is similiar when Target marks things down for salvage.

Q: Are these markdowns YMMV?
A: NO. These are universal nationwide prices. If you arent getting them, its your stores problem and doesnt indicate a larger problem as a whole.

Q: How are things marked down?
A: AFAIK, it can be done manually via gun, or it can be done en masse at the register. If you want further details, we are currently looking for a CAG to take one for the team and get a job at K-Mart to infiltrate and learn their secret methods.

Q: What games will drop further?
A: As a GENERAL RULE, games at 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 are at 90% off AND WILL NOT DROP FURTHER. Games ending in .99 will drop 2 bucks at a time in random intervals.

Q: What do I do with all these games?
A: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95481

THE OLD GAME LIST - All Games on this list are NOW YMMV. These prices are the lowest reported prices, but many are out of the system and will now depend on the employee you get, the tag on the game and your own negotiating skills:

Dave

Went to Kmart today and saw a couple Gameboy Advanced games, so I took them to the scanner and they all rang up a lot higher than the list shows.

Sword of Mana rang up at $24 instead of $4, dragonball GT rang up $29.99 instead of $1.50 and Wing Commander rang up I think $26 instead of $3.... Not sure whats up with that, but I was really looking forward to getting a copy of sword of mana for dirt cheap.

It sounds like that store is really behind on updating the price on games (as in they haven't updated them in 3 - 4 months or more)
I remember the one in Port Jervis... [tries to remember the Matamoras one--- was that the one they ended up building near Delaware Valley High/Middle/Elementary?

Scary thing? I lived in Mildford, PA for YEARS before moving to the South. ;-) I saw Matamorus and it led me to remembering the K-Mart/Jamesway/Shop Rite area stuff in "Port Jervis" and remembered the fondness for the armpit of the world. ;-)
Armpit of the world??? LOL That was the crown given to I think Wilkes-Barre, PA about uhhhh 5 yrs ago.

There is actually stuff IN Port Jervis?? It looked like an exit to nowhere, like some of the ones in Joisey, where you have to drive 2-3 miles off the exit to find any civilization.

I may go out in the unforgiving heat tomorrow to see if I can find some MOH games for GC up in Honesdale, PA, though the clerk at the electronics dept up there was real snotty when I asked her to price check 2-3 games.

EDIT: Actually Yoshi, many times the wrong price will come up at the price scanners, they have to be price checked at the actual register.
EDIT: Actually Yoshi, many times the wrong price will come up at the price scanners, they have to be price checked at the actual register.
Sorta defeats the purpose, eh?

I tried scanning a print out of Mega Man X: Command Mission, and it came up $29.99 on the scanner. Sadly, they didn't have any in stock anyway, so I couldn't have them scan it at the register even if I wanted to. I think walking up to a cashier and asking them to scan a printed UPC might be a bit suspicious ;)
It sounds like that store is really behind on updating the price on games (as in they haven't updated them in 3 - 4 months or more)
You would think that, but I bought 2 wavebird/mario party 4 bundles there a couple weeks back for $17, and also grabbed Bloodrayne 2 for PS2 and SRS for gamecube for the correct marked down prices at the same Kmart, so they must of fucked up on getting the clearances right on those games.
Same KMart. (Greenbelt) :)
That explains it then. I was wondering why the 2 Zoo Keepers were on a shelf away from the other DS games.

You know, if you're still looking for Zoo Keeper and don't mind travelling, the store on Sinclair Lane in Baltimore had a few when I was there 2 weeks ago. The store is in the middle of a ghetto, and I didn't feel like bothering the clerk to open the case, so there's a good chance they're still there; they had a couple of copies of Sword of Mana too. Whether you can get someone to sell them to you for the correct price is another story.

I made a run to two K-marts tonight in the Tampa area....
The first (Columbus & Dale Mabry) didn't have a damned thing, but I scored somewhat lucky on the second big K (Florida Ave; GHETTO!). I was able to pick up a copy of Zoo Keeper for $2.50 and a copy of Golden Nugget Casino for the GBA for $2.50. It's funny, I saw the copy of Zookeeper in the case, and my hopes suddenly skyrocketed.... I asked the clerk for a price check and when he rang it up, it said "Insert Price." He called his manager and his manager said "Gimme the UPC.... ok, it's $2.50" I tried to act surprised, and I went back the case to look for more goodies. The clerk, thank god, was pretty cool and let me browse the huge stock of games... I might make another trip back when i have more time to check out the other hidden gems...
Hallelujah! I actually scored pretty good @ Waikele. Nothing left though, I took the cheap ones.I saw those wavebird combos @ kapolei but I don't have a GC and several games but only picked up a few since I was in a rush. They had a lot of stuff there so I may head down todoy.
Don't even try Salt Lake, they had crap. Have you been to the one on Nimitz? Too far for me but let me know if it is worth it.
Checked out Waikele, you said nothing was there, but I wanted to check anyway since it was on the way. Of course, nothing there. I was surprised to find the game section even well stocked, I had not been to the Waikele one for some time, so I guess they've improved.

Then went to the Nimitz one. You so do not want to ever go there. Aside from it being the most rundown K-Mart I've ever been to, the selection was horrible, and very untidy. Unorganized too... GCN/Xbox/PS2 games all mixed up, GBA games mixed with DS games. As soon as I walked in I almost turned around. That is one craptastic K-Mart. So no luck there.

Kapolei is backwards for me, so I didn't go there. Maybe later.

But yeah, nothing good at any of the stores I went to unfortunately.

I found the crappier the store the better. The more organized K's had been picked clean, probably by the employees that maintain the section. The ghetto Kmart near me was a treasure trove of clearance stuff. Just had the kid with the keys keep running back and forth to the register to check prices as I made a two foot pile of games.

Found these (didn't see on the list):
Street Fighters II Turbo Revival (GBA) - $14.99
Gundam Seed: Battle Assault (GBA) - $9.99

Thanks for the info! I'm in downtown D.C., so I'll pass. I'd spend too much in gas. Once the stores get picked over, it's easier and cheaper just to pick the stuff up off of eBay.

Hit a Kmart last night in Auburn... the bastards had 3 Final Fantasy VII GH. I picked them up and a sealed PS1 for $29.99, along with Monster Hunter, MegaMan X8, Zookeeper, Transoformers, etc.

I went to K-mart in a different city and scored Soul Calibur 2 non-GH (PS2) and DOA 3 original cover (XBOX). $2 each :D

Sell them while they're hot!! Demand for FFVII is dropping exponentially as the day of Advent Children's release gets farther away.

went to 2 kmarts in N.Cali.(santa rosa, petaluma) the SR store had not even changed any of their prices i think, golden nugget(gba) $19.99 and zoo keeper $24.99. petaluma store soul caliber (ps2) $5.00, shaman king $1.50, beyblade $2.00,duel master $1.50 all for gba. hopefully they have a good trade in value at eb.

I made another wonderful trip to my Kmart and found, Mario Party/Wavebird bundle for $7, Shark Tale GBA $2, Fzero GP $3, FZero GX $2, Veitcong $2,Bloodrayne 2 $2, SRS GCN $2. heheh

They finally updated the prices at one of my local Kmarts, and I was able to get Street Racing Syndicate GC for $3, Dragonball Z Budokai PS2 for $2, and Conflict Vietnam PS2 for $3. The last one rang up without a price and even though I showed the guy my list (where it is marked $2) he decided to give it to me for $3. That's OK though :D.

He had told me when he opned the case that they just dropped prices and "alot of them" were now $2. I really couldn't find anything besides those 3, and I even had him price check about 7 or 8 others. But the fact that he said that makes me think there may be more hidden gems in there that we haven't found yet.

Is GBA Shark Tale really only $2? I thought people had problems with that one and were getting it to ring up $19.99? They had that at the store today but I didn't check it. I guess I'll have to give it a shot next time.

I got a Logitech Wireless controller for :ps2: for $9 tonight! I also got the 1st Sly Cooper:ps2: for $7.99, Dark Cloud 2 :ps2:$3, Boktai :gba:$7.99, Mega Man N4 Red Sun:gba: $3, Van Helsing:ps2: $9.99, Destruction Derby Arenas:ps2:$4,Shaman King Power Of Spirit:ps2: $2, Metal Slug Advance:gba: $9.99 & surprisingly a couple of :gc: guides: Wario World & Starfox Adventures for $1.50 each.

I have to hit this store up again as they had a ton of stuff left, I squeaked in about 10 minutes before closing so I had no time to thoroughly go through everything.

if anyone picks up an extra ps2 wireless controller, mmbn 3 combo, mmbn 4, dark cloud 2 and mario 4/wavebird ill glady trade or buy it of them

LOL ShiningSlade, did you hit the one in Endicott, NY? I just ask because I know they had at LEAST 2-3 more PS2 Logitech controllers there when I got mine.

Anyway, onto my 'score' for tonight. I hit 3 local Kmarts:

Moosic, PA

F-Zero GX(GC)-$2
Eyetoy Groove(PS2)-$3 NOTE: They have about 3-5 more of these in the case left.

SRS Street Racing(GC)-$3.00

F-Zero was marked $19.99 and Eyetoy Groove is marked $12.00. Only SRS was marked right.

Pittston, PA.

Nothing remarkable there, I price checked Tiger Woods 2005 for GC, it came up $3. I didn't get it. The place was disorganized and I never got a clerk to come over so I could check the case to see if any hidden treasures were lurking behind those umpteen games.

They had one copy of the Golden Nugget GBA game in the case, marked with a $1.50 price sticker and had a price sticker reflecting a drop in the E-Reader for $8. This was also the store that HAD multiple wavebird combos in stock last time I was there. They had none left this time.

BTW, has anyone price checked the Playstation Multitap lately? Is it still $18? They have 2 in stock there, if anyone is willing to pay that price.

KMart-----Scranton/Carbondale Highway(also known as Route 6)

Baten Kaitos-$3 NOTE: They have 3-4 left.
Robotech Invasion(PS2)-$2-Last one.

This store also has a copy of ICO in stock, but it is marked and rang up $29.99, same with their copies of Romancing Saga for PS2.

They also have a copy of Max Payne 2 for PS2, but I didn't get that checked.

5 games for a lil over $13, not bad for tonight.

EDIT: As for the Kmart in Scranton on Route 6, don't try and bug the clerk who is supposed to actually be working there on a Sunday night, as he never came over to get the cases open for me. I had to go back to the service desk and get a girl from the counter to help me out. This is like the Kmart in Honesdale, very tough to get anyone to do anything for you at first.

Route 6 is the worst - I was sitting there waiting for someone for what seemed like an eternity.

On the other hand, in Moosic I had a very helpful and nice clerk...

Thanks for the report!

Also, since I don't believe it is listed, Eyetoy with Camera should be $15, and Eyetoy with Antigrav (I think that's it, as it had a guy on a surfboard in the air or something like that on it.. I don't remember) is also marked down to $20-$25. Time Crisis 3 w/Guncon was $30

I saw those as well (although when I scanned the Eyetoy, it was coming up as 29.99.. hmm). Another one I saw like this was that Taiko Drum game. It was marked $25 at one store close to me.
Hit a Kmart last night in Auburn... the bastards had 3 Final Fantasy VII GH. I picked them up and a sealed PS1 for $29.99, along with Monster Hunter, MegaMan X8, Zookeeper, Transoformers, etc.
How much was that PSone. I saw it there, thought about it, but realized I didn't need one. Is anything left?
I went to K-mart in a different city and scored Soul Calibur 2 non-GH (PS2) and DOA 3 original cover (XBOX). $2 each :D
nice work
They finally updated the prices at one of my local Kmarts, and I was able to get Street Racing Syndicate GC for $3, Dragonball Z Budokai PS2 for $2, and Conflict Vietnam PS2 for $3. The last one rang up without a price and even though I showed the guy my list (where it is marked $2) he decided to give it to me for $3. That's OK though :D.
Which Portland store was it? Do they still have DBZ Budokai in stock?

can anyone help me figure which of these cheap games would either be good for trade credit OR are an especially good deal?

i saw Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced at Kmart today and the upc sheet was ringing up right. I don't have a gba, so i didn't want to throw down $4 not knowing anything about the game. They did have 2 copies of feel the magic for ds and a couple of eye toys...that's all i remember right now. i might go back if anyone would be interested in looking for something in particular.

Baten Kaitos is worth $6 in trade at eb/gs, but the fucking Cl(J)erk at GS said I couldn't trade multiples of a title, and I had 4!

is that the way EBGS does things?

Tualatin, and, no, sorry, I think it was the only one :whistle2:(.

What city did you find the Soul Calibur II in?

robbyH - yes, typically, that is the way EB/GS works. You'll need to find 3 games to match it up with (if you want the $10 bonus deal). Otherwise just take your copies in to different stores at different times - no problem doing that. You can even go back to the same store - you just can't typically trade multiples on the same transaction.

Ah, I was there Sunday and went through the games pretty thoroughly with the latest printout - no more SC II. That must be why the guy told me there were "a bunch" of $2 games in there "yesterday". They got bought by you :D. I realize you didn't get many, but he was probably exaggerating their existance in the first place. Sounds like there might have been 5 or 6 total. Were you the one that piled them all loose on top of each other in that lower left case (the PS2 section)? :D If not, maybe someone else hit there later Saturday or early Sunday.

I was at the Portland (airport area) Kmart a few days ago and they hadn't dropped prices yet.

They were in the upper display case (where you see the front cover) nearer the GH area. I also picked up DOA3 both platinum hits and original cover there. That's about the only games in the list that I found :)

You know, I really didn't pay that much attention to the upper parts, as I always assumed those were just newer games (and thus not on clearance). I might have to get back there and check (if it is on my way somewhere).

Where I found the 3 games I bought was in that lower section where they are all piled up.

Where are you at, Yakkotank? I'm actually IN the city of Scranton.

I got out towards Honesdale yesterday, but didn't want to 'bother' the clerks at the Kmart there, since it was such a hassle the last time.

However, you are right about the clerks in Moosic, the one woman who seems to always be working there is a saint. I must've had her check like 3-4 games on top of the ones I bought there.

And then Kmart wonders why they were in bankruptcy when they keep stock forever and have such rude clerks sometimes.

About the Max Payne 2, anyone think that might be clearanced now too? I think that copy was marked $29.99 or $49.99.

I may go back to the one in Moosic, because I think I saw a DBZ Budokai as well.

success ish, went to kmart again just cause my friend wanted sc2 and they had like 13 copies left and I saw mario party 4 wavebird combos. 2 to be exact bought one and my friend bought one. Theyhad more but they where mp combo ones

Has anyone been able to buy at one store, then return/rebuy at another that is doing the sale?

I ask because my one Kmart is not doing the sale, and is loaded with Wavebird combos...and my other Kmart is doing the sale.
LOL ShiningSlade, did you hit the one in Endicott, NY? I just ask because I know they had at LEAST 2-3 more PS2 Logitech controllers there when I got mine.
Nope, I never made it up there yet. And I'm from up there! lol I hit these stores:
Wind Gap, Easton, & Walnutport. What a bitch it was to find that last one. Damn Kmart directions had me all over back roads and such. At least I found it and got those guides, so it was not a total wash. That store had the fewest video games yet of all the Kmarts I've been too. I think I'm worse than you are IamTheCheapestGamer. I've hit Kmarts from Paramus/Westwood NJ to Walnutport, PA and as far north as Poughkeepsie, NY and Yorktown Heights, NY. I've hit all the stores in between that radius. Pretty big area!

Occasionally I have seen people mention games not on the main post and I came across 3 this weekend. ICO $14.99, orignal mega man battle network GBA $3, and Yu-gi-oh Sacred Curse GBA $3...

I wonder if some of these may be store by store?

I'm in Moscow, as a matter of fact.

Even though Kmart is generally disorganized and so forth, at least they have good clearances. Some of the local Walmarts have older games at full price... I think the Pittston one still have an N64 game or two.

I printed out the UPC sheets via the link in this thread. I notice there are multiple games listed under some of the UPC codes. I thought each game title would have a unique UPC code. How can different games use the same code? Is this a mistake on the UPC sheets? Also, where do you find the self help scanners in the stores and what do they look like? I want to use the UPC sheets I printed out and scan the codes on the sheets myself to avoid the hassle of finding an employee to scan each game I'm interested in. Has anyone found the prices of games to be different than the prices obtained by scanning the UPC sheets? Thanks for any help......

They do have unique UPCs. If the source you have lists multiple games with the same UPC, it's wrong. You can verify the UPCs by looking up the item on half.com or most other online stores (not amazon, for some reason).
The price scanners are beige boxes, less than a cubic foot, mounted on poles about four feet up. They'll have a blue/green LCD text display and they're usually marked with a sign hanging from the ceiling.
I've never found the self scanner to be different than the game's actual price, but some people have reported it to be on occasion.

I picked up Dark Cloud 2 at my first K-Mart for $3. I'm happy because that is probably thje game I wanted the most.

But after that, nothing. One store had the biggest jerk. I grab a few games laying out and went to go scan them outside the electronic part and he wouldn't let me leave. So I asked him to scan the games to see how much they were (I stupidly didn't print out a list) and he just read off the price tags for those who had it and then for one without, he just said "ummm this is probably $20 buck". I asked to scan them and he refused to. He also said I had about $150 buck worth of games when I only had $70. Oh well. Screw him. All they had anyway was SC2 but I already have that for Xbox/GC anyway.

I picked up a few things at the location in Clovis CA. The guy in the electronics department was this cool old man who was patient enough to let me look through the racks as all the games in the case were mixed. I wound up with the following:

Dark Cloud 2 $3.00
PSP Battery $8.00

I also tried to pick up a Zoo Keeper for DS, but the game rung up as being $19.99 :( I also passed up a few things like SSX 3 (PS2) $2 and they did have a few other marked down games that were not on my radar (Max Payne, Alias, various Sport games)

If anyone wants to trade for Dark Cloud 2, just send me a PM. I wouldn't mind picking up an extra Wavebird :)
